New head gasket installed in 2011. Electric top does not retract electronically, but it does close electronically. A few cracks in the dashboard. Cracked left-rear turn signal. Cracked right front fog lamp. Heated seat no longer works. Alarm system no longer works."

I am the second owner of this car, and I have been told by my mechanic that this Saab 900 Turbo convertible is the best condition that he has come across. The leather upholstery is in very good condition and has no cracks.  The canvass top was replaced in 2002, and a new transmission was installed in 2003.  Recently, the head gasket was replaced in 2012 and all of the hoses were checked.  Most recent service was conducted in 2013 where the front CV boots were replaced and the rear brake pads were replaced in addition to new brake lines being installed. In 2010 I had the car stripped down to bare metal and had the car repainted with the original clear coat factory color: beryl green.  Since then, this car has turned heads wherever I have driven it.  It has been meticulously maintained by a mechanic that deals specifically with classic 900s.  Oil changes have been performed religiously every 3,000 miles.  This car also has the three-piece boot cover for the convertible top as well as the light bulb kit and tool set.  A beautiful convertible for spring, summer and fall.    A very good example of the first generation Saab 900 convertible, and the perfect car for a sunny day.  For more details please call 717-329-8679 or email me at cardinaj2@comcast.net.

The Saab 9-3 that never was finally shows up

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

Looking back on the life and [slow and painful] death of Saab, it's impossible to not stop and think of what might have been with the quirky Swedish automaker. As it turns out, SaabsUnited has decided to shed some light on what the company's future might have looked like, including some images and information that include full-scale mockups of the 9-3 Phoenix, which you see above.
In its waning years, Saab's lead designer Jason Castriota was working feverishly to deliver new products that built on the heritage of the brand while doing so at a lower cost and in a shorter time period than previous models. In the end, though, it sounds like the earliest that we could have seen any of these plans come to fruition was 2014. In addition to hatchback and convertible 9-3 variants, Castriota also created the Sonnett - a sporty-looking 2+2 that never made it past the design study phase.
Regardless of whether you're a diehard fan of the brand or if you were just pulling for the underdog, you'll want to head on over to SaabsUnited to check out a little more of what the future could have held for Saab.

Vampire Weekend burns for Saab

Thu, 21 Mar 2013

Or is it the other way around?
Could Vampire Weekend be trying to tell me something? A just-launched music video for the indie rock band's new single Diane Young features what looks like a pretty mint black Saab 900 Turbo Convertible being torched in slow-motion. In fact, with the exception of a brief, flickering cameo by a 900 three-door of a similar vintage, that's all that there is to the nearly three-minute long video. It's both sad and oddly beautiful.
Coincidentally, I have a similar-looking turbocharged black Saab convertible sitting in my garage, and I've been reluctantly pondering its sale this very week. Admittedly, mine is a later model (2001 9-3 Viggen), but tri-spokes and more tapered rump aside, it looks eerily identical. And while mine isn't mired in flames (I love it too much to torch it), through no fault of its own, it's been sitting motionless far too regularly. Thankfully, I see a better future for it than the droptop seen above.

GM recalls 500K Chevy Camaros for ignition-switch defect

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

General Motors issued a recall for more than a half million Chevrolet Camaros on Friday morning because of an ignition-switch safety hazard that mirrors the one at the center of the company's current crisis.
The problem affects Camaro models from the 2010 to 2014 model years. Approximately 464,712 cars are impacted in the United States, and 511,528 overall in North America. GM will alter the Camaro key to a more standard design, and will notify car owners with a recall notice in the mail.
In an announcement, the company said the ignition switches on the Camaros are fundamentally different parts than the older ignition switches found on defective cars that are responsible for killing at least 13 people and causing 54 crashes.
