Porsche planning jacked-up 911 Safari? [w/poll]

Thu, 26 Dec 2013

The Porsche 911 may, for some, be the quintessential sportscar. And that typically means keeping it on paved roads and racing circuits. But there's a proud history to taking the Elfen off-road that traces back to specially-prepared 911s (like the one pictured above) which Porsche fielded in rallies in the late '70s and early '80s. And now Porsche is reportedly preparing to tap back into that history with a new off-road 911 model, according to the Auto Bild Motor Revue.
Tipped to be called the 911 Safari, the special variant would be based on the Carrera 4 but upgrade with bigger tires fitted to a beefed-up suspension with higher ground clearance and underbody skid plates. The model is expected to be presented initially as a concept at the Beijing Motor Show next April. But if enough interest is expressed - particularly from buyers in developing markets where the roads might not be as smooth as those to which North American and European drivers have become accustomed - Stuttgart could put it into production in 2016, when the current 991 is expected to get a mid-cycle refresh.

Paul Walker's daughter settles for $10m in crash lawsuit

Sun, Apr 10 2016

Meadow Walker, daughter of the late Paul Walker, has agreed to a settlement with the estate of Roger Rodas worth $10.1 million over the death of her father. The basis of the settlement is that Rodas, who was driving the Porsche Carrera GT when it crashed, killing himself and Walker, was partly at fault for Walker's death. Police officials ruled that excessive speed was the main cause of the deaths of Rodas and Walker. According to TMZ, quoting attorney Jeff Milam, who is representing Meadow Walker, this sum is only a small fraction of the amount Paul Walker would have earned over his lifetime as an actor, which is almost certainly true. Walker was 40 at the time of his death, and was in the midst of a highly successful Hollywood career. A lawsuit was filed in September of 2015 by Walker's daughter against Porsche, alleging that the German automaker is also at fault for the deaths. Through her lawyer, Meadow says she "intends to hold the company responsible for producing a vehicle that was defective and caused Paul Walker's death." A court recently found that Porsche was not at fault for the death of Roger Rodas. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. This FL man accused of stealing drivers licenses has best tattoo ever

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

Bentley and Porsche are two of the jewels in Volkswagen Group's luxury brand crown, but in Florida they also have a very tenuous connection with crime. With his multiple face and neck tattoos, including a Bentley logo right between his eyes, Derek Denesevich (pictured above) has been charged with the surprising crime of alleged identity theft. He recently surrendered to a Florida court, and could face seven years in prison, if convicted.
You might wonder where Porsche fits into this. According to the Sun Sentinel, Denesevich's accomplice was one Porscha Kyles, who worked for the Broward Clerk of Courts. She allegedly used her access to driver's license records to steal information and sell it to Denesevich. He is then accused of filing fraudulent income taxes to recoup the refund checks.
According to the Sentinel, Kyles has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy and identity theft and was sentenced to three years and one day in prison. The duo reportedly stole over 100 identities and made at least $120,000. Scroll down for a video about this pair of auto-related criminals.
