2004 Porsche Boxster S Special Edition Convertible 2-door 3.2l Tiptronic on 2040-cars

Hello and thanks for checking out this listing of my 2004 Porsche Boxster S Special Edition in excellent condition. This car was created as a special commemorative tribute to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 550 Spyder and is an example of just 1,953 cars made (this is #1,290). Special styling cues native to the Special Edition are the Carrera GT Silver Metallic paintwork (then only available on this car and the Carrera GT supercar), an individually numbered plaque mounted on the center console, 18-inch Carrera wheels, and a stacked center mounted exhaust. The suspension has been optimized as well and features stiffer springs and shocks, plus Porsche Stability Management fitted as standard. Brakes are ventilated aluminum discs with four-piston brake calipers with an aluminum paint finish.

Special Edition special features aside, this car is classic Porsche refinement and engineering at its best. A 3.2L flat 6-cylinder power plant supplies up to 264 horsepower @ 6,200rpm. The Tiptronic S dual mode transmission offers 5 automatic shifting gears or a manual mode with sport steering wheel-mounted shift buttons. The leather interior is in showroom shape with no rips, tears, or wear marks. The car was well optioned with cruise control, a thumping Bose Sound System with AudioPilot, a remote 6-disc CD changer, sport seats, and Xenon Litronic headlamps. Carpets, floor mats, and all trim are in likewise incredible condition.

I am the third owner of this stunning roadster and have put barely 4k miles on the car since purchasing it in June of 2011. Regular service has been courtesy of a local import specialist or the service team at Delaware Porsche. Just installed is a brand new battery and low-tone horn. The only "issue" that the next owner may want to address is a pulled area of trim on the headliner just rear of the top release (see photograph), although it has never bothered me and I doubt it will bother you.

The car has been garaged since new and has been used exclusively as a fair-weather, top-down cruiser. The bodywork is laser straight with no dings. The paintwork is an 8.5 out of 10 with only a very few blemishes with regard to minuscule stone chips, some light scuffing under the front bumper (this is a low-slung car), and a bit of swirl here and there. Open the driver's side door and you will see a trio of very small nicks just beneath the door latch mechanism (see photograph). All four wheels are in quite good condition with colored center crests. A couple of the wheels sport some very light curb rash that is barely noticeable without going nose-to-tire with the wheel. I have done my utmost to take accurate and detailed photos of the car and welcome your questions.

Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus that have fewer than 1,000 miles. They were installed at an expense of just under $1,000 less than a year ago.

The car is available for your immediate review here in Wilmington, Delaware...convenient to both the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. metro areas. The car is a true stunner and is well worth the trip no matter where you may be located. Local pick-up is of course available but I would be happy to help the winning bidder coordinate transportation anywhere.

Thanks very much for reading this lengthy description. The car has brought me a lot of joy over the past three years with the only out of pocket expenses being the very low-cost service items previously discussed and Super Unleaded, of course! I am selling it because I simply don't drive it enough due to work and life commitments. The reserve has been set at a very reasonable amount well below KBB value and is an excellent value.

24 Hours of Le Mans an on-and-off love affair

Mon, 24 Jun 2013

There was little usual about this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans - intermittent rain in the weeks before the race meant cars didn't get on track as much as they wanted, and intermittent rain during the race meant cars went off track a lot more than they wanted. The race started with a wet track, and one of the records broken because of the random downpours was the number of times the safety car led the field - 11 times this year - although the record of two hours and 53 minutes of lapping behind the safety car, set in 2011, was not eclipsed.
None of that served to dampen the action. With little more than an hour left in the race there were cars still only a few seconds apart fighting for position, leads still changing because of pit stops and everyone drafting anyone they could.
Things didn't go the usual way up front, either - well, not exactly...

Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Nismo star in World's Greatest Drag Race 4

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

We love Motor Trend's annual World's Greatest Drag Race video. Now back for its fourth appearance, the idea of lining some of the world's fastest cars up for a ten-wide, straight-line, full-throttle run is, well... it's pretty freaking badass.
The lineup this year boasts some impressively fast cars to be sure. The group of ten includes the following darlings: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru WRX STI and, last but not least, the Volkswagen GTI. Give us any one of those for the weekend, and we're happy to take the keys.
It must be said though, that for a publication that draws as much water as Motor Trend does, there are some big cars that we might expect to be here instead. The Lamborghini Huracán or Ferrari 458 Speciale would have added some exotic flare to the list, and the omissions of the Chevy Corvette Stingray (for the second year in a row) and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat are real head-scratchers.

Porsche's Mauer recalls the history of the 918 Spyder, hints about next-gen 911

Wed, 26 Feb 2014

The night before Porsche handed me the keys to its 2015 Macan to drive on both road and track, the company threw together a great dinner for the assembled media in Leipzig. Hosted in Porsche's spaceship-shaped customer delivery center in the eastern German town, I'll admit that I spent the bulk of my night grabbing hors d'oeuvres from passing waiters (they do a nice tuna sashimi), milling around a collection of historic and interesting vehicles on the top floor and gulping down Warsteiner.
In an era of mega car companies, the story of how the 918 came to be was really refreshing.
Before the evening was over, however, Porsche design chief Michael Mauer stopped by my table to exchange pleasantries and thank us all for coming out to drive the Macan. My fellow diners and I passed a pleasant half-hour or more picking the brain of the forthcoming Mauer, and somehow or another, the topic turned to Porsche's newest supercar, the 918 Spyder. In an era of mega car companies (the Volkswagen Group included) and massive development teams, the story of how the 918 came to be is really refreshing.
