This is my 2002 Boxster which I love but have decided to sell.  It's my third car and I literally have to force myself to drive it a few times a month.  I also have a company car so now I use it even less.  The car has spent almost its entire life garaged. I also keep it covered with an OEM Porsche cover that is included with the sale.

I have done the following work to the car:

·         Replaced the coolant tank due to a leak (this was a common problem with pre 2003 models.  Porsche updated the tank which is what I installed.

·         Replaced all the plugs with OEM plugs at 92k.

·         Replaced the water pump and thermostat and coolant at about 95k.  Dieters in San Diego did the work, they are highly regarded mechanics.  Used OEM Porsche coolant/parts.

·         Replaced the left rear wheel bearing at 95k - Dieters also did this.

·         Replaced the ignition switch.  This is actually an AUDI part and is a common failure in 986's.

·         New tires all around - OEM sizes.  They have about 2000 miles on them so they are good to go.

·         Rear lights were also upgraded to LED's but appear bone stock.  Front side markers were changed from yellow to grey and are an OEM Hella product.

·         Replaced the remote portion of the key fog, they wear out after a few years and the truck did not work as well.  It works now and looks like new.

·         Added an iPhone interface for the 4/4s that works with the factory radio.  I use it with my IPhone 5s with the Apple adapter but the adapter is NOT included with the car.

·         Recently replaced the headlights with some pre owned stock OEM Porsche headlights.  You will see in the picture that one has like a halo if you look at the right angle. Not noticeable unless you are looking at the correct angel.  What is noticeable is how clear these are compared to cars of this age.  Makes the entire care look great.

·         Added a lumbar adjustment. Basically an air bladder made for this specific application that you pump up with something that looks like a blood pressure hand pump thingy.  Hard to explain but it works and required zero modification to the car; you can slip it out if you don’t like it.

I work on a military base and have access to a full shop with a lift so I did all of the oil changes myself using the OEM filter and Mobil 1 full synthetic.  It was a breeze having the lift and I change the oil twice a year since I never reach the recommended mileage requirements set forth by Mobil and Porsche.  Plus I liked getting under the car.

Car engine is bone stock with the only modification to the body is that the rear "Boxster" badge has been changed to "986" to reflect the model number.  These numbers are OEM Porsche for the 968, I just changed the order.  It looks factory.

One nice feature I added is a hidden bike rack that accepts a 1-1/4 bike rack.  I had it fabricated and gave some to fellow Boxster owners.  I used it a few times but bought a truck so never really had a need for it.  If you didn't know about it, you'd never notice the car had one. I am including the bike rack as well.

The car has a few minor scratches which I have photographed (driver side has three white marks above the intake vent – the driver side by the turn light has a scratch) and some road pitting on the front that is not abnormal for a car with this mileage.  The top in original and the rear plastic is not crystal clear but not bad at all. I took a bunch of pictures of this looking inside and out of the plastic; you will see it’s pretty clear.  This car has lived most its life covered and that shows in the condition of the original top.  The windshield has three little rock chips that I've never had sealed but they are small and are not really noticeable.  This is NOT the rain sensing windshield so if you ever chose to replace, it won't end up costing you 2k.  It was never an issue with me.  The car will need pads in the next 5-10k miles depending on how you drive it.  For me that would at least have been a year to two years.

Please remember that you are purchasing a used car with over 117k miles on it at a greatly discounted price from MSRP.  Please don't expect a new car or even a car with 30k miles on it or even 80k.  If you want guarantees or warranties, purchase a new car from Porsche. Like most cars on eBay this car is sold AS IS with no warranty expressed or implied in the above description.  I personally think this car to be in better shape than most I've seen out there and have attempted to describe the car to the best of my ability.  Please realize your final bid is a contract to purchase the car, not to test drive or kick the tires.

Consumer Reports no longer recommends Honda Civic

Mon, Oct 24 2016

Consumer Reports annual Car Reliability Survey is out, and yes, there are some big surprises. First and foremost? The venerable publication no longer recommends the Honda Civic. In fact, aside from the walking-dead CR-Z and limited-release Clarity fuel-cell car, the Civic is the only Honda to miss out on CR's prestigious nod. At the opposite end there's a surprise as well – Toyota and Lexus remain the most reliable brands on the market, but Buick cracked the top three. That's up from seventh last year, and the first time for an American brand to stand on the Consumer Reports podium. Mazda's entire lineup earned Recommended checks as well. Consumer Reports dinged the Civic for its "infuriating" touch-screen radio, lack of driver lumbar adjustability, the limited selection of cars on dealer lots fitted with Honda's popular Sensing system, and the company's decision to offer LaneWatch instead of a full-tilt blind-spot monitoring system. Its score? A lowly 58. The Civic isn't the only surprise drop from CR's Recommended ranks. The Audi A3, Ford F-150, Subaru WRX/STI, and Volkswagen Jetta, GTI, and Passat all lost the Consumer Reports' checkmark. On the flipside, a number of popular vehicles graduated to the Recommended ranks, including the BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze, Hyundai Santa Fe, Porsche Macan, and Tesla Model S. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the hilariously recall-prone Ford Escape getting a Recommended check – considering the popularity of Ford's small crossover, this is likely a coup for the brand, as it puts the Escape on a level playing field with the Recommended Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. While Ford is probably happy to see CR promote the Escape, the list wasn't as kind for every brand. For example, of the entire Fiat Chrysler Automobiles catalog, the ancient Chrysler 300 was the only car to score a check – there wasn't a single Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, or Ram on the list. That hurts. FCA isn't alone at the low end, either. GMC, Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Mitsubishi don't have a vehicle on CR's list between them, while brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Cadillac only have a few models each. 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo First Drive [w/video]

Mon, Feb 8 2016

Remember when turbos were a big fat middle finger to the naturally aspirated status quo? The horsepower renaissance has seen the forced induction phenomenon go from badass add-on (Turbo 'Vette!) to battle cry for efficiency (Kia Optima Turbo). From econoboxes to high-end holdovers like Ferrari and Aston Martin, everybody's doing the turbo shuffle. But what does that mean for the gang from Stuttgart – and more importantly, the top-of-the-line 911 that has called itself Turbo since the mid-1970s? I spent a day in the 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S to find out. Now is a particularly fitting time to evaluate the latest iteration of the venerable Porsche 911 Turbo. Our scrutiny comes at a moment when standard-issue Boxsters, Caymans, and Carreras have finally adopted turbocharged platforms. The Turbo S has a top speed of 205 mph, marking the first time the model has crested the 200-mph barrier. Spoiler alert: Rather than radically transforming its long-evolved essence, the 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo has made incremental changes that makes it, well, more Turbo than ever. Horsepower for the Turbo and Turbo S climbs 20 each, to 540 and 580, respectively; 0-60 times drop to a scant 2.9 and 2.8 seconds, and these top dogs now have terminal velocities of 198 and 205 miles per hour, marking the first time the model has crested the 200-mph barrier. The forced-induction flagships have different engine hardware, another first for the lineup, with the S gaining larger turbo impellers and housings. A revised differential enhances the precision of power transfer, while the PDK dual-clutch transmission (the only gearbox available) gains a centrifugal pendulum for smoothness. The dynamic engine mounts now work harder for crisper response, and the variable damping rates have been extended at both ends for a wider range of settings. If you're a fan of hanging the tail out, you'll be pleased to know that a new Sport mode enables greater yaw angles. And if you dig indiscreet bursts of acceleration, there's now a Dynamic Boost function that preps the drivetrain for a little extra oomph by dropping down a gear and holding the throttle open to maintain turbo pressure, increasing torque from 487 to 523 pound-feet, and from 516 to 553 lb-ft in the S. Standard equipment now includes a Sport Chrono Package, camera-equipped parking sensor, and the Porsche Dynamic Light System. Engine flexibility is outstanding, allowing peak torque to start at only 2,250 rpm.

Road & Track names its 2013 Performance Car of the Year

Thu, 14 Nov 2013

Road & Track recently staged its first annual Performance Car of the Year test, pitting 13 new and updated performance cars against each other on track, then graduating the top six to a road test before picking a winner. Additionally, the magazine staff picked the best automobiles of the year in eight categories.
But first, let's cover the PCotY segment. Here's the list of cars brought to the comparison test: Audi R8 V10 Plus; BMW 435i; BMW M6 Competition Package; Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51; Ferrari F12 Berlinetta; Ford Fiesta ST; Jaguar F-Type V8 S; Jaguar XFR-S; Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model Wagon; Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series; Mini John Cooper Works GP; Nissan GT-R Track Edition; and Porsche Cayman S.
To find out the results of the comparison, head over to Road & Track's website or check the press release below, where you'll also find the magazine's top-rated vehicles in eight categories. Want more? Head over to the 2013 PCotY hub. But before you do that, take a stab at guessing the winner of PCotY (we'll give you one hint: it isn't a Porsche).
