Another "turbokev" auction~!

~1987 Porsche 944-S with 97,200 miles~

DESCRIPTION:

Here is a well sorted, well maintained S model Porsche 944 with dealer records.
Powerful 2.5 liter 4 cylinder with double overhead cams that runs beautifully.
Engine does not burn oil, Clutch grabs well, Transmission shifts great.
The 4 wheel disc brakes grab well, no shimmies, no pulling.. just good solid stopping power.
Original rubber center clutch was dealer replaced with the updated parts at 53K and it still works perfectly.
Timing belt / rollers etc have been dealer replaced at 42K and again at 78K. Car now has 97K so it is not due.
The car drives wonderfully with crisp handling, fantastic braking, and smooth power delivery.

The car came up from Florida to New Hampshire in June of 2013 and was stored all this past winter.
I bought it for my wife and went through the car in March of 2014 replacing / repairing whatever I felt needed attention.
I replaced the cam tensioner pad, cam cover gasket, the plugs, wires, distributor cap, and air filter.
I repaired a ‘no heat’ condition and now the climate control works great again.
I replaced the fuel filter, and I installed a set of brand new KYB shock absorbers.

The interior is very nice with Porsche script seats. No rips or bolster wear.
The dash is super nice, all dash lighting works, as do all gauges and switches.
The power windows and sunroof work, as do the power mirrors. The cruise control works too.
The exhaust is in great shape, the Continental tires are like new, the wheels are also presentable.
The car just passed NH state inspection in March and it needs no immediate work.
You could absolutely fly in and drive it home anywhere enjoying comfort and reliability.

As you can see from the pictures, the cars exterior looks great, It is however 27 years old.
Close inspection will reveal some touched up chips and scratches.
The stone guard panels show cracking like most older ones do.
Overall, for its age, it looks great inside and out and should provide many more years of enjoyment.

Known issues:
Car has an aftermarket CD player radio that works great, but it could really use new speakers.
The turn signals work fine, but the ‘auto shutoff’ mechanism does not work. You have to click them off.

I have included many pictures below to help you judge condition.

(small chip out of the sunroof, still works fine though)

Porsche Classic puts modern navigation in older cars [w/video]

Mon, Feb 23 2015

People drive classic vehicles for many, many reasons. Maybe it's because they're cool, or they bring back memories, or perhaps they just want to take a trip back in time, before the days of adaptive cruise control, massaging seats and satellite navigation. You know, back to when driving was about, well, driving. Someone did not mention this reasoning to Porsche, because the German company has decided to offer the tiniest, most ridiculous in-dash navigation system we've ever laid eyes on, through its Porsche Classic line. Because, you know, people don't own smartphones nowadays. In fact, most smartphones are significantly bigger than Porsche's new nav setup. The touchscreen is just 3.5 inches in size, although its graphical layout is clean and in line with the company's more modern offerings. It also integrates a new entertainment system, which adds Bluetooth connectivity and a 4x45 watt amp. The system is being offered for a wide array of vintage Porsches, ranging from the most modern, air-cooled 993s, all the way back to the earliest 911. Four-cylinder and V8 models, as well as front and mid-engine cars, can be fitted with the nav system, too. Porsche Classic has priced the new system at the frankly absurd price of 1,184 euros ($1,344 at today's rates), though we're sure a large number will indeed be sold and installed. Dedicated US pricing is still pending. Check out Porsche's rather silly video of the system in action, available alongside the full press release below. This content is hosted by a third party. PORSCHE CLASSIC BRINGS OUT NEW NAVIGATION RADIO FOR CLASSIC SPORTS CARS True-to-style upgrade with state-of-the-art technology Atlanta. Classic on the outside yet ultra-modern on the inside: with its newly developed navigation radio, Porsche is responding to the growing demand for a built-in device for classic sports cars. The purpose-built unit combines the style of yesteryear with the benefits of modern technology. It fits perfectly into the DIN-1 slot that has been used in the sports cars for decades and is operated by means of two knobs, six discreetly integrated buttons and a touch-sensitive 3.5-inch display. Thanks to the appearance of the black surface and the shape of the knobs, which are supplied in two authentically styled versions as standard, the navigation radio blends harmoniously into the dashboard of classic Porsche models.

Chris Harris gets filthy in a WRC-ready Porsche 911 RGT

Thu, Jan 15 2015

Last time we rode with Chris Harris we were shotgun in the tan leather seat of his used-yet-immaculate Ferrari FF. This time we're strapped into a black racing bucket of a filthy Porsche 911 rally car, one that led Harris to effuse, "I don't think I've driven a more exciting car this year, hypercars included." The thrills come courtesy of a 997-series Cup Car that's been reworked by Tuthill Porsche to run in the RGT-class rally series that will piggyback on five World Rally Championship and European Rally Championship races this year. It's not quite the Rothmans Dakar monster, but the RGT series gives privateers an affordable way into rallying with cars that look different and are different from one another. This one kept its 3.8-liter, 444-horsepower 997 Cup engine, but the 39-milllimeter restrictor drops that to about 350 hp. Beyond that are a new rollcage, gear ratios, suspension, fuel tank, underfloor protection and just about everything else. Said the man who built it, it cost "a lot, and it's still costing." But Harris says even though you "have to have your wits about you," it's a hoot to drive. And this is one of the few times you'll hear the phrase "What a tool!" used as a compliment. Check it out in the video above. News Source: Chris Harris on Cars via YouTube Motorsports Porsche Coupe Off-Road Vehicles Racing Vehicles Performance Videos fia rally WRC chris harris porsche 997

Steve McQueen's last Porsche headed for auction

Tue, Jul 21 2015

Most people might be happy ordering a new car off a lot, but Steve McQueen was most definitely not "most people." The Hollywood icon was known to custom-order his cars. What you see here is the last car McQueen would ever order, and now it's going up for auction. This is a 1976 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera (known to aficionados as the 930) that the actor had done up in Slate Gray, with sunroof, dual mirrors, a limited-slip differential, black sports seats, and a switch on the dashboard to kill the taillights in case he was being pursued at night. Chassis number 9306800408 is powered by a 3.0-liter flat six that's turbocharged but (in a rare early configuration) not intercooled. The air-cooled engine features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and drives 234 horsepower through a four-speed to the rear wheels. McQueen ordered the 930 new from Bob Smith Porsche in Hollywood. He died a few years later, never having special-ordered another new car – making this the last of its kind. "This car is rich in history," said his son Chad McQueen. "This is the last of the McQueen cars, really. That's known. That's real." And it can be yours, if you place the right bid. Mecum Auctions has it on consignment for its upcoming event during Monterey Car Week, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Boys Republic – McQueen's own alma mater. STEVE MCQUEEN'S LAST SPECIAL-ORDER PORSCHE TO BE OFFERED AT MECUM MONTEREY 1976 Porsche Turbo 930 Personalized by The King of Cool to Cross the Block Aug. 15 WALWORTH, Wis. – July 14, 2015 – The very last car special-ordered by The King of Cool—the late mega movie star Steve McQueen—will be offered for sale at the Mecum Daytime Auction in Monterey this Aug. 13-15 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa – Del Monte Golf Course. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera will be donated to McQueen's alma mater, the reform school Boys Republic. "This car is rich in history," says McQueen's son Chad. "This is the last of the McQueen cars, really. That's known. That's real." McQueen's untimely death in 1980 at age 50 made this 1976 Porsche 930, chassis 9306800408, the very last of his special-order cars. His insatiable and notorious need for speed and his affinity for fine automobiles meant always having the best sets of wheels, and his Porsche 930 is no exception.
