A classic car with exceptional performance. In 1985, Car and Driver rated the Porsche 944 best handling car on the road. Over 25 years later, the 944 continues to provide drivers with an exceptional driving experience, whether it be on the track or street--and you'll see why.

Option codes: This Porsche car is a 1985/1 model year with the sports package, which meant better shocks, struts, and it has the optional limited slip differential as well.

It has upgraded front brakes (cross-drilled rotors), and even the power removable roof works. I upgraded the car with new Sachs spring-centered clutch plate, new pressure plate, new slave cylinder, new pilot bearing, new clutch release bearings, new throwout bearing, new stretch bolts....more parts than I recall. New Dunlop Sport A2 rear tires around 1500 miles ago, and shocks and struts upgraded to KYB high-pressure shocks. Ignition wires upgraded to Bosch premium wires 400 miles ago.

Cosmetically, the car looks great but has normal wear and tear for a 1985. It is eyecatching, but you should expect some rock chips, scratches and cracking, and tiny rust spots in the finish on an antique car. And yes, it qualifies for antique plates in VA. It even has the original leather seats (with normal wear), which makes it a hit with Porsche purists at shows.

I ran a Carfax and found no surprises.  Please note that the mileage indicates 28k miles because the odometers in these cars restart after 99k miles.  With that said, the engines are phenomenally well built (look up Alusil cylinder bores) and I expect it to provide driving fun for a long time. Auction includes the CD stereo, which works but isn't currently hooked up. The handle is bent on the parking brake, which makes it sticky--they aren't expensive on the internet and I'd replace it if I kept it.

Mechanically, the engine and drivetrain are in great shape, and I'd drive this car across the country. Battery was replaced on 6/12 with an Autocraft Silver so it's still in warranty.

Clear title, no liens, ready for cash sale.

The car is much more satisfying to drive than any other car I've driven, but this is your chance to own a classic for a bargain price!  Take a look at the pictures, and happy bidding!

0 feedback buyers must contact me prior to bidding.  A $500 deposit due within 48 hrs of winning an auction, remainder when you pickup the car. I reserve the right to end this auction early for local sale.

Watch Porsche's 918 Spyder break a sweat while hot weather testing

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

With five months left until the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder enters production, Porsche engineers are still putting the hybrid sports coupe through a battery of last-minute tests. To give us new reasons to ogle over the car - as if we needed any more - Porsche has released a short video showing the 918 Spyder undergoing shakedown tests in the hot Nevada desert. And you can't drive through Nevada without visiting Vegas, too, right?
Although there's really nothing new to see in this video, it's still fun to watch as Porsche approaches one million test miles logged on this exciting new high-performance model. One interesting part (at around the 0:37 mark) shows the car taking off under electric power and then transitioning to engine power, which results in a mix of whirs and growls as the 918 Spyder switches from a 127-horsepower electric vehicle to an 887-hp hybrid supercar. Scroll down to watch - and hear - Porsche's latest creation in motion.

Alonso wants an NSX, but did Honda block him from Le Mans?

Tue, Jan 20 2015

One of the biggest changes in store for the 2015 Formula One World Championship will see Fernando Alonso moving back to McLaren. That means he'll be driving under Honda power for the first time, after spending the bulk of his career driving for Renault and Ferrari. And being Honda's new poster child, as the two-time World Champion is fast discovering, has its advantages and its drawbacks. According to the latest reports, Alonso had been negotiating a clause in his contract with McLaren that could have seen him driving a Porsche 919 Hybrid at Le Mans this year, but Honda reportedly stepped in at the last minute and scuttled the plan. The drive would have been Alonso's first in the famous 24-hour race, after having had the honor of waving the flag at La Sarthe last summer. In one of the wilder rumors that emerged during the prolonged silence over his move for this season, the Spaniard was also linked to a potential return for Ferrari to Le Mans. That prospect came to naught, and now the Porsche deal has been wheeled into the garage, as well. The upcoming F1 season is expected to be one of transition, adjustment and development for McLaren and Honda, but the Japanese automaker's involvement in his hiring may not be all bad news for Alonso. Following the reveal of the new Acura NSX, Alonso tweeted "You still don't know, but one day we will be together..." followed by a series of heart-eyed smiley-face emoticons and accompanies by images of Honda's new supercar. The implication is that the two-time World Champion is expecting to get his talented hands on an NSX of his own, and we can certainly see how Honda would appreciate the imagery of Fernando driving around in its flagship. Even if it doesn't, though, we're sure McLaren would be glad to hook him up with a company car of its own – though Lewis Hamilton encountered some trouble securing (a very specific) one for himself. Even discounting the front-running F1 machinery he's been tasked with piloting on track to an impressive 32 career wins, Alonso has had some lustworthy company cars at his disposal over the years. At Renault, he had a Megane RS to drive, and during his last stint at McLaren, he had an SLR 722. But since signing with Ferrari, he's been given the keys to FCA models as varied as a Ferrari FF, a special 599 GTO, a Maserati GranCabrio, a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and an Abarth 695... and those are just the ones we know about.

Magnus Walker drives 911 Turbos old and new

Wed, Mar 25 2015

It's been forty years now since Porsche released the original 911 Turbo. And as many things that have remained a constant, a lot has changed, too: the engine has gone from air-cooled to liquid, moved up to nearly a midships layout, and drives almost exactly double the original's output to all four wheels instead of just the back set through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission instead of a five-speed manual. It'll also reach highway speeds about twice as fast as the original. That's progress for you, and who better to compare Porsche Turbos old and new than Magnus Walker. The outlaw of the 911 scene may not look the part, but to those in the know, he's got the last word when it comes to Porsches. After searching for some time, Walker recently got his hands on a cherry of an original 930 Turbo from 1975 – the first year it was made – and had it shipped from Australia to California to add to his collection. eGarage caught up with Walker and brought along a new 991 Turbo for juxtaposition. Fortunately it also brought along a video camera or two to document the experience, so check it out in the latest video above.
