Original 914 1.7 Liter Targa With Factory A/c, 5 Speed Manual And No Reserve on 2040-cars
Simpsonville, South Carolina, United States
You are bidding on a 1973 Porsche 914 1.7 Liter Targa with Factory Air Conditioning and Manual Transmission. Arguably the most desirable year of the 914 with still the Bosch D-Jetronic Fuel Injection System, side shift transmission as well as other improvements over the earlier years. It is Ivory White exterior over Black interior. This is an original car having probably all of the usual issues expected on a 914 of this vintage but can be enjoyed and driven as is. The exterior of the car (predominantly paint), leaves much to be desired. The recipient of a poor repaint many years ago as well as various shades of white touch up along the way, don't bode well for the initial impression. There are many areas where the paint is either cracking or starting to bubble beneath. The chrome and glass however is all in average to good condition. The black Targa Top paint is also not great but the top itself is in very good condition. The latches all work as expected and the headliner is in nice shape. Overall panel fit is factory correct, but the driver side trunk hinge is missing a plastic roller guide and sits high when closed as a result (see photo). The interior of the car (seats, cockpit, carpet, door panels and dash) are by far the most redeeming qualities of the car with all being in good to excellent condition (see photos). The dash itself is essentially perfect with not one crack or split to be found. The complete interior is not new but in a good used condition contributing to a nice overall interior patina. Mechanically the car runs and drives fine as is. Starts easily, idles well and drives as I would expect any 914 should. Steering is great and the Clutch, Transmission and Brakes are all working exactly as they should. The car is very original, so it still retains its factory VDO gauges as well as the original and also working Blaupunkt radio. The dual exhaust is newer and provides for a more sporty exhaust note. All 5 painted wheels are in average condition while riding on rather old 195/60/15 radial tires with decent tread. Included as well are the factory tools with tool pouch, factory jack and a Porsche 914 workshop manual. Please ask all questions prior to bidding and do not bid unless you intend to buy. Vehicle is being sold as is where is with no warranties either expressed or implied. A $500 non-refundable purchase deposit is due within 2 days of the close of the auction. |

Motor Trend puts Chevy Camaro Z28 and Porsche 911 GT3 Head 2 Head
Mon, Dec 29 2014Motor Trend admits, "This is an unfair comparison." But that doesn't make it any less fun to watch when they pit a Camaro Z/28 against the Porsche 911 GT3. The former has a 7.0-liter V8 with 505 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque shifted through a six-speed manual. The latter has a 3.8-liter flat-six with 475 hp and 324 lb-ft shifted through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Yet those are only the little disparities – the big disparities are mass and money: the Camaro weighs 3,882 pounds and costs $76,150 as-tested, the Porsche weighs 3,267 pounds and costs $145,785. But they're both about hardcore performance, so MT takes them out on the street, to the drag strip, to the parking lot for figure eights and a skidpad test, and finally to Big Willow for Randy Pobst to give his professional assessment. Remember when a lotta people spent a lotta time debating Pirates vs. Ninjas? This is like that, only it's the "haul-ass good-time car" vs. the "track surgeon." Enjoy the debate in the video.
One POV lap shows 62 years of Porsche through 20 cars
Thu, Dec 17 2015Porsche has earned a legacy of motorsports success that many brands would envy, and the amazing vehicles that achieved those victories were on display this year at the Rennsport Reunion V at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. We visited this massive celebration of the sports car company and got a great look at some of the 1,400 Porsches in attendance. Now it's time for you to strap in and enjoy a POV lap of the track in 20 cars that exemplify 62 years of taking checkered flags across the world. This clip offers a chance to see and hear the evolution of Porsche's racers in just a couple of minutes. It starts behind the wheel of some of the early four-cylinder cars but quickly transitions to the brand's iconic prototypes and eventually to the modern track machines. Here's an opportunity to experience some of these historic vehicles from the cockpit if you missed the chance to see them at Rennsport Reunion V in September.
Editors’ Picks July 2022 | Volvo XC60, 911 GT3 and a hot Hyundai
Tue, Aug 16 2022This latest rendition of Editors’ Picks sees us recognize some enthusiast-focused vehicles on both sides of the price spectrum and a luxury SUV. The 911 GT3 was an easy shoo-in, but the Hyundai Elantra N is what surprised us the most. WeÂ’re sad to see the Veloster N bow out after this year, but at least the N model in its place is a worthy one. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in July that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2022 Volvo XC60 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge View 36 Photos Quick take: The Volvo XC60 is one of our favorite luxury crossovers, and the PHEV option is a killer setup. We dig the interior design, and the exterior is attractively Swedish, too. Score: 7.5 What it competes with: Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Genesis GV70, Jaguar F-Pace, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Audi Q5, Lexus NX, Acura RDX, Volvo XC60, Lincoln Corsair, Infiniti QX50, Porsche Macan Pros: Great design, epic PHEV option, intriguing interior design options Cons: Tech can be cumbersome, big wheels lead to a stiff ride From the editors: Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "When it comes to plug-in hybrids, there's no better compact crossover option than the XC60 Recharge. I really dig the extra-powerful electric motor and larger battery Volvo added this year. The interior wool option is my pick of the bunch, but I am a little disappointed that there aren't as many physical buttons throughout the interior as there were before." News Editor Joel Stocksdale — "Although it's got some age, the Volvo XC60 is still an excellent premium SUV. It's as handsome as ever with its clean, modern design inside and out, and feels genuinely luxurious. But what really sets the XC60 apart is its available plug-in hybrid powertrain. It's smooth and refined, and best of all, it's still great in electric mode.
