1973 Porsche 914 in excellent condition, with front and rear GT flares (fiberglass) and rear trunk spoiler.   Body and paint are in excellent condition as I would probably give the paint a 9 and the body a 9+ and is very nice.  Many new parts on this car including full tune up, valve adjustment, alt belt, coil, brakes, shifter bushings,  fuel pump, and new tires.   Clean interior, nice dash, no hvac controls as it was a southern car and previous owner didn't want them in the car and added oil pressure and charging gauges instead.  Engine block is not a  2L, but was rebuilt with 2L heads and pistons and had this verified by my Porsche mechanic.  Fuel injection has been replaced with Solex carburetors and starts right up, fuel pump was relocated to avoid the hot start problem from earlier models.  The car runs and shifts good after its warmed up like most carbureted cars and has a small exhaust leak at the manifold which all but disappears when warmed up.  Battery tray is in great shape and pan and rockers are in really nice shape also.  Passenger mirror is not connected and will need new mount.  Front and rear trunk have been completely sealed and are rust free.  Originally all gauges worked, but the odometer has stopped now at 69000 and I believe this to be real miles as per the previous owner.  I  originally purchased the car because it was one of the best looking 914's I had seen, but I have lost my storage for it and have decided to let it go now.  The car is still in my dealers name so the winning bidder will receive a clean title with a bill of sale upon receiving payment in full.  I will require a $200 deposit with 48 hours of auction's end via Paypal with the balance in cash or Paypal if you want to pay the 2% surcharge due within 7 days.  No out of the country bidders please.  Only bid if you are serious about following through with your bid.  Any additional questions just ask.  Happy Bidding!

All the crazy stuff we saw at McCall's Motorworks Revival

Thu, Aug 18 2016

Every year, Gordon McCall puts on a lavish event packed with rare cars and planes (and the type of people that can afford rare cars and planes). And every year, more ridiculous stuff shows up. It's the good kind of machine overload. It's likely the only place in the world where you'll see a line of BMW 3.0s next to some Paganis next to a Porsche 911 by Singer Design next to a Ferrari salt racer next to a custom Olds Riviera next to the latest from Koenigsegg next to he coolest stuff Shelby ever made next to a hangar filled with McLarens, including a few P1 GTRs. And then all of that is surrounded by private jets, fighters, and planes that could have flown in directly from WWII. In a word, it's insane. Walk through the gallery above to get a taste for what was there this year for the event's 25th anniversary. Vintage-ish Porsche 911 buying guide

Tue, Jul 21 2015

Harry Metcalfe is always great at showing viewers the intricate details of the vehicles in his collection as part of the Harry's Garage series. This time he's helping out future buyers by explaining what to look for when purchasing a classic and slightly more modern Porsche 911. His examples for this lesson are two absolute beauties that are about to cross the block from Silverstone Auctions in the UK: a 1972 2.4 S and a 1991 964-chassis RS Clubsport. The '72 in creamy white here epitomizes the look of early 911s. The coupe is handsome, purposeful, and fairly compact by modern standards. According to Metcalfe, when looking at one, don't worry about a wobbly gearshift. Apparently, they're all like that, even ones as well cared for as this example. As with any used car purchase, he recommends trying to get as many service records as you can. It's just good to know as much about the vehicle's life as possible before throwing down any cash. Where the '72 911 shows the more gentlemanly side of the brand, the '91 RS Clubsport is Porsche proving the company's performance credentials. Metcalfe slightly dings the switch to an aftermarket air filter here, but overall it's hard to find a major fault. These cars were essentially road-going racers in this trim. The engineers in Zuffenhausen chopped out as much weight as possible and then fitted Recaro racing buckets and a roll cage. This thing was meant clock as many laps around the 'Ring as the driver could stand.
