Up for sale is my RUST FREE 1973 Porsche 914 that I acquired earlier this spring from a gentlemen who restored and raced Porsche 911's. In the past two months I've added three Volvo's to my collection and have decided to focus on Swedish iron. The previous owner gave me quite a comprehensive history on the car so please read the entire description as I'd like to give the new owner as detailed overview as I can.

This 914 underwent an extensive restoration in 2011 and has approximately 8,000 miles since that was completed. Here's a rundown of what was done during the restoration:

*The car was originally signal orange but was professionally painted Tomato Red including the targa top (1992 VW GTI color).
*Originally a 1.7 block, the engine was rebuilt by JCS to 2.0 specs. Fuel injection converted to dual 44 carbs with correct emulsion and jets
*new engine mounts at rebuild
*Cam is a Webcam mild street
*5-speed transmission rebuilt. Has a new Sachs clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing, optimized Delrin bushings in most of the linkage.
*new glass all around and German top of the line rubber
*Period correct exhaust with German 2.0 setup
*stainless steel brake lines, Ferodo pads, 911 master cylinder and new OEM rotors
* Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires 205/60/15 (now have about 8,000 miles on them)

Since the restoration was completed there were some additional performance tweeks:
*New Nology wires
*New Bosch blue coil
*new K&N washable filters
*NOS 009 Bosch distributor
*pertronix ignition
*new fuel pump with glass fuel filters
replaced steering rack, bushings and bearings
replaced heater blower with a 3-speed out of a 911
window cranks are from a late 356
replaced all tie rods
new Optima battery with external cutoff switch
synthetic oil and all Royal purple fluids throughout

The wheels are real Fuchs 2.0 alloys (not replicas) with real alloy center caps. All chrome is excellent. There were some minor cracks on the dash so it's now has a new hard cover. High end Sony cd stereo. Original black carpet is in very good condition with a set of Porsche black mats. The seats are in excellent condition but do have a few minor seam splits and tears. The targa top has a new gray felt headliner.

Included for the new owner is a shop manual and a very hard to find set of three keys - black OEM, red OEM valet and one metal dealer blank. Some work receipts available.

Finally, I was told by the previous owner (the 911 racer) that this 914 puts out 142 hp and I believe it. A few years ago I owned a 74 914 with fuel injection and this is so much faster and responsive. 1973 is the preferred year for 914's. For whatever it's worth, the 2012 Collector Cars Price Guide (Krause Publications) estimates this car to be valued at $16,800 in #2 condition. I would grade it very close to that condition.

Every time I sell one of my classic cars I get asked if I'm interested in a "trade". As explained above, if you have an interesting old (pre-1973) Volvo or Saab in excellent condition, I'm all ears- if you have an old Harley or 65 Cadillac, don't bother asking. I'm certainly no expert on Porsche's but I spent 6 months researching 914's before buying this one. You'll be hard pressed to find one better at the asking price.

Keep in mind this is a 40 year old car...there are no warrantees or guarantees. Vehicle is sold as is. If you are local, email me for an appointment to see and drive the car before buying and feel free to bring your mechanic or Porsche expert. I am happy to assist your shipper with delivery.

Sunday Drive: A tale of old favorites and upcoming challengers

Sun, Oct 8 2017

Sedans and crossovers dominated the attention of our readers last week, led by the completely redesigned 2018 Honda Accord. It's the Japanese automaker's flagship, and people are seriously interested in finding out how good the latest Accord is. So interested, in fact, that no other single story came close to the brand-new Accord in Autoblog reader interest. Moving down the list we find the equally new 2018 Buick Enclave. The three-row crossover has a lot to offer a family, especially one looking for a nice, quiet ride. If you're looking for the exact opposite of nice and quiet, but still want enough room for you and your significant others, the Subaru WRX that we tested last week may be the perfect ride for you. Or, if you just want to drive fast and aren't at all worried about space, there's the Camaro SS. See? We offer something for everybody. From there, we look to the future. Who isn't interested in seeing the first fully electric vehicle from Porsche? And who isn't intrigued to see the Mission E testing alongside a gaggle of Teslas? A brand-new Jeep is always a big deal, especially when it's the revival of a classic nameplate like the Grand Wagoneer. And finally, we have something completely different: the Rezvani Tank. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. 2018 Honda Accord First Drive | Feels like home again 2018 Buick Enclave First Drive Review | Fortress of quietude 2018 Subaru WRX Drivers' Notes | Turbo traditionalist 2018 Chevy Camaro SS Drivers' Notes | Demonstrative power, middling interior Porsche Mission E caught testing against Teslas Jeep three-row SUV caught on public roads — Grand Wagoneer, perhaps? Consumer Reports no longer recommends Honda Civic

Mon, Oct 24 2016

Consumer Reports annual Car Reliability Survey is out, and yes, there are some big surprises. First and foremost? The venerable publication no longer recommends the Honda Civic. In fact, aside from the walking-dead CR-Z and limited-release Clarity fuel-cell car, the Civic is the only Honda to miss out on CR's prestigious nod. At the opposite end there's a surprise as well – Toyota and Lexus remain the most reliable brands on the market, but Buick cracked the top three. That's up from seventh last year, and the first time for an American brand to stand on the Consumer Reports podium. Mazda's entire lineup earned Recommended checks as well. Consumer Reports dinged the Civic for its "infuriating" touch-screen radio, lack of driver lumbar adjustability, the limited selection of cars on dealer lots fitted with Honda's popular Sensing system, and the company's decision to offer LaneWatch instead of a full-tilt blind-spot monitoring system. Its score? A lowly 58. The Civic isn't the only surprise drop from CR's Recommended ranks. The Audi A3, Ford F-150, Subaru WRX/STI, and Volkswagen Jetta, GTI, and Passat all lost the Consumer Reports' checkmark. On the flipside, a number of popular vehicles graduated to the Recommended ranks, including the BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze, Hyundai Santa Fe, Porsche Macan, and Tesla Model S. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the hilariously recall-prone Ford Escape getting a Recommended check – considering the popularity of Ford's small crossover, this is likely a coup for the brand, as it puts the Escape on a level playing field with the Recommended Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. While Ford is probably happy to see CR promote the Escape, the list wasn't as kind for every brand. For example, of the entire Fiat Chrysler Automobiles catalog, the ancient Chrysler 300 was the only car to score a check – there wasn't a single Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, or Ram on the list. That hurts. FCA isn't alone at the low end, either. GMC, Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Mitsubishi don't have a vehicle on CR's list between them, while brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Cadillac only have a few models each. Weekly Recap: Mazda's rotary revival ignites Tokyo Motor Show

Sat, Oct 31 2015

Forty-eight years ago Mazda pioneered rotary engines in the Cosmo Sport. Mazda then honed the technology, won with it on the racetrack, and made it one of its signature features. If you're an enthusiast, rotary was a reason you like Mazda. It's a great part of the company's past. But until this week, that's exactly what we thought it was. History. That all changed with the reveal of the RX-Vision concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, which reignited the passions of the Mazda faithful. Suddenly, rotary was no longer a relic. The rotary concept shown in Japan was a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car wrapped in the company's latest Kodo design language. It's powered by a Skyactiv-R unit (R for rotary), though specs were not disclosed. Mass production is "currently on hold," Mazda said, maintaining it never stopped development of rotary technology, even after the demise of the RX-8. Beyond that, we know nothing, other than the optimistic statement Mazda offered that: the "RX-Vision represents a vision of the future that Mazda hopes to one day make into reality." Put simply: we agree. OTHER NEWS & NOTES: Subaru previews next-gen Impreza While the Mazda concept was the headliner from Tokyo, Subaru's Impreza design study also stood out. The five-door concept is a signpost for the look of next-generation Impreza. It blends sportiness with functionality, and it's wrapped in a striking shade of 'high-luminance silver.' The fenders are flared to signal Subaru's all-wheel-drive capability, and the front has futuristic headlights that look like something from an Audi E-Tron concept. While most of this will be toned down in production, the concept suggests an elevated style for the Impreza, which is due as a 2017 model. Porsche adds potent GTS model to 2017 Macan line Porsche is giving the Macan crossover the GTS treatment, which will start at $68,195 when it goes on sale in March. GTS translates to more power, a sportier suspension, and interior and exterior design cues that sharpen the looks and reflexes of one of the most athletic SUVs on the market. Porsche recalibrated the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 from the Macan S to make 360 hp and 369 lb-ft, (up from 340 hp and 339 lb-ft in the S). It teams with a seven-speed PDK gearbox and all-wheel drive. An air suspension is standard. The body features a slew of black accents, and the standard 20-inch RS Spyder wheels are done up in a shade of satin black. The cabin gets leather, Alcantara, and GTS logos.
