2000 Mecham WS6 Prototype one of two

One owner-34,581 original miles.

I bought this car brand new in early 2000. At the time I was building supercars for Dennis Mecham at my shop. When I purchased the car, there were no provisions for building a Mecham WS6. One day I was talking with Dennis about one of the builds we were doing and he asked if I would like to turn my car into a Mecham car. I said, YES!!! I asked what number the car would be assigned and he said the number one! He also said the car would be a prototype! This car is the first 4th Gen Trans Am WS6 to ever be converted to one of the rarest of the breed. I remembered back in time when I was growing up, cruising Central Ave. and seeing a Macho T/A or a 3rd Gen MSE cruise by and always knew that I would own one some day.

I was very fortunate that I got this opportunity and since I was the only contracted shop to build Mecham cars, I was able to build this one myself. AWESOME. I have all of the original documentation, window sticker, addendum sticker, build sheet, misc. doc's that come with a new car and the holy grail....the letter of authenticity signed by the man himself, Dennis Mecham. The letter also states that the car is a prototype. This is also the first F body to wear the Forged Weld wheels that were commissioned by Dennis for the new C5 DuMans Corvette. There were only 200 of these ever made, and these look new. The wheels are chrome, 18x10, and bear the name "MECHAM" on them. I asked Dennis for a set so I could see if they fit an F body. One five mm spacer and special extended lug nuts and it was all over but the drooling.

Here is a list of the Mecham equipment added at the time of the build:

Mecham Special air box lid

K&N air filter

JBA shorty headers

Prototype engine bay brace, this was never put into production due to cost, so this is the only one you will ever see.

Z06 clutch upgrade.

Mecham specific silver decal kit.

Polyurethane front and rear sway bar bushings and end link bushings.

Mecham specific lowering springs.

Mecham dash plaque, #001

Mecham specific muffler.

Mecham power oval exhaust tips that bear the Mecham name.

Mecham specific rear aero wing, actually produces down force and makes a huge difference in handling.

Performance alignment, Mecham specs.

18X10 Mecham forged Weld chrome wheels.

Right now the car resides on the original WS6 wheels and tires. I mounted BFG 295/35ZR18's on the Weld wheels and since they were so rare, I only used them for certain events. If you like BF Goodrich tires, you know they have a real problem with dry rot. When you buy the car, the Weld wheels will be shipped inside the car and I will remove the old tires for you, I have my own tire equipment.

Everything in the car works except for the normal failure to launch parts from Generous motors. The electric antenna is stuck in the "up" position and there is a small crack on top of both door interior trim panels. All of the fluids are Mobil One synthetics and I always stayed on top of oil changes. One Mecham option that I didn't install was the 373:1 gear set. Here in Arizona we have some really nice twisty roads, but they are high speed. I really liked the way the cars 342:1 gears worked, so they are still in the diff. I still have the 373's in the original container and they will be shipped inside the car should you decide that you want to install them. Good luck on the bidding, don't miss out on owning one of the rarest cars on the planet!!!

The buyer is responsible for shipping. Once you have paid for the car, let me know who your shipper is and I will make the car accessible and will help them load the car. If you have any questions about the car, you can call me at 623-414-2964. If I don't answer, please leave a message and I will call you back asap.

NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile

Sun, 29 Apr 2012

Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
