Up for bid is one 1987 Pontiac GTA. Originally a 5.0 T-5 car. Black exterior, black interior. Car is 90% complete. Have all parts to complete final assembly. This car has spent most of its life in Florida or South Carolina. I recently moved here to PA in the past 2 years. Car has never been driven in snow. I purchased this car approximately 7 years ago to restore and mildly modify for an every day driver that would scream when necessary. The car looks completely stock. Paint is good. Deep black shine. Unfortunately there is some small rust on drivers side roof, most likely from improper surface prep. (see picture) and the throttle body on the motor touches the underside of the hood and has cracked the paint. (again see pic) . Other than that paint is above average and gets comments everywhere I go. I installed a fiberglass  4th gen rear spoiler specifically designed to replace the crack prone wrap around spoiler that comes stock. I pulled the anemic 5.0 TPI and slushy T-5 and replaced it w a fresh GM L31 2 bolt short block. The same short block you cant kill that's in all GM 1500 trucks from the mid 90's. Bolted on a fresh set of L98 type Edelbrock aluminum heads. Along w a TPIS hydraulic roller stick cam. The TPI intake just did not do this engine justice so I replaced it w a Holley Stealth Ram. The car now pulls hard all the way to 6000rpm. The engine is controlled by a Painless Wiring computer system which is completely laptop programmable. The tune is almost dead on. Some part throttle parameters need to be fine tuned for optimum A/F ratios. The T56 is really what makes this car. I purchased it from a shop that only deals in manual trannys. The unit was a take out from a mid 90's recall on T56s in Camaros and T/As. The owner of the shop bought dozens and I was lucky enough to get one of the last ones he had. The gear box was completely gone through and all updates completed. It also has a fresh stock clutch and is topped w a B and M ripper. The rear end is the original Australian 9 bolt w a 3.45 gear ratio. The rear was flushed and serviced when the motor swap was done and is quiet and smooth however it has a lot of mileage on it and the posi cones have long lost there positive traction grip.

The car drives out great. A lot of fun to drive this car with the 6 speed. Idle is pretty lopy and sounds great through the Edelbrock headers and Jegs 3" aluminum exhaust. She'll cruise all day at 2000rpm and 80mph in 6th gear. When necessary the motor pulls strong and smooth through all gears. I have not had the car dyno'd but this combination should be good for no less that 330-350hp. The Eibach springs, which lowered the ride height approx 1", and KYB struts and shocks hold the car tight around turns. Steering is quick as all WS6 T/As are. The front tires are fresh BFG's 245/50/16, the rears are Nitto drag radials 255/50/16 and are wrapped around the proper and restored non dimpled cross laced 16x8" rims. The car stops confidently on fresh stock brakes. Power windows are typical slow GM 80's design, power door locks have new actuators. Cruise control is there but non functional. A/C blows cold, heat is not hooked up. Speedo is not working but I have the unit to marry the stock speedo to the T56 which uses a different baud rate. All lights and electrical work minus rear defrost. Front windshield is new. Interior is good. Front seats reupholstered. Small rip in head liner. Car interior has also been completely Dynomatted. New CD player and speakers. New carpet.  Interior needs final assembly. Last pieces of drivers side door panel and passenger side door panel. Along w hardware holding rear hatch panels.
Im selling because I simply have no more time to put in to this vehicle, I own 2 other T/As and a Yukon so driveway real estate is at a premium at my house. I have over 13k in parts alone in to this GTA my reserve is set at less than half of that. This vehicle is listed locally so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time and is being sold with no warranty expressed or implied.
This car is perfect for the person that likes to fine tune and put the final touches on a vehicle. It's a blast to drive and gets looks all day long. The sound this car makes hits every octave a hot rodder wants to hear and will look great in your driveway. Ive described this car to the best of my abilities I thank you for your time and I will be glad to answer any questions you may have through email. I will also be glad to show the car if you're in the Pittsburgh area. Bid soon and bid often.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
