1979 Pontiac Trans Am on 2040-cars

Year:1979 Mileage:52000
Location:

Martin, Kentucky, United States

Martin, Kentucky, United States

Body is in great shape with no rust or dents.  The body has 52,000 original miles.

It has a completely rebuilt 403 Cu In engine with a new 4 barrel Elderbrock carb, new starter, water pump, and fuel pump.  The engine has less than 50 miles on it.

It has new headers, mufflers, and pipes all the way out.

There is a new 350 Street Strip automatic transmission and a 342 positive traction rear end.

4 new tires, new breaks, and new carpet.

All the glass, T-tops, and hood scoop are in great shape.

The interior needs a little work and the car needs a paint job.

The car is about 80% restored.

Mechanically the car runs awesome it just needs some cosmetic work.

Reason for selling is bad health.

On Mar-05-14 at 12:10:06 PST, seller added the following information:

All the interior is there.  The dash is in good shape with no cracks and the headliner is good.  The door panels are a little rough but can be used.  I have new motors for the automatic windows that need to be put in and there is a new center console.

The motor also has a new set of 350 big valve heads on it.  The 403 cu. in. motor in the car is the original motor but has since been rebuilt.  It has all the standard size parts but does have a over-sized cam.  Mechanically this car runs great.

I also have the original honeycomb rims.

The original color of the car is blue but it was painted gray when I purchased it.

With a little work on the interior and a new paint job this would make a great car to show or cruise around in.

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:

Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.
