ok so here goes.. Here is my 1978 pontiac trans am. I have the Pontiac historical society documents available. Its a real WS6 T Top TA which came gold with tan standard interior. The car has the K in the vin so obviously it was the 403 motor with a turbo 350 Automatic and posi rear end. (the car does not have an engine). I bought this car as a long term project but I have finally admitted to myself that I just don't have the time or resources to continue the build. Here is what I have and what I have done so far... Initially I purchased two cars. I also have the vin and title to a 79 firebird. The body of the 79 was in very good shape and was gold to boot so I bought it with the intent that I would take all good sheet metal etc and use this for the TA. My TA has a little rust on the passenger side A pillar (fixed) passenger front and rear foot wells (fixed) There still in one pin hole in front of where I did the patch that would need to be address if desired. As a side note, the reason I found a donor car was because (although many vendors claim their after market sheet metal is perfect, I have spend too many hours trying to make old and new blend) So having a rust free donor car has been so much better. The driver front has two or three pin holes that I have not addressed yet and the driver rear same... I do have the donor patch panels that are ready to go in. The driver quarter I skinned in... meaning it was too difficult to remove all the spot welds from the donor car so I cut about 1 inch away from all the edges and welded it in... underneath the original sheet metal so putting a slim layer of filler would be appropriate. The other reason I did it this way was because I hate looking on trunks of old cars and seeing horrible patch jobs on quarter panels. The passenger quarter panel has a small spot on front of the wheel... see pic... again I have a patch piece for this as well. I did patch in a small piece in the rear by the tail. under side have very little rust, no need to patch or cut anything additional as noted. I do have 2 trunk lids and 4 doors. The donor doors are near perfect so those would be perfect to swap over. The hood is great as well as the front fenders. Radiator, support, bumpers are all there. I have almost 2 complete interior sets, but nothing that I would reuse, just frames for seats etc. I have 2 or more gauge clusters, AC is all there, and loads of random pieces from both cars.... 2 steering columns. Missing from windshield, Rear glass is good, T tops are good. 4 door with glass. Fiberglass wheel moldings there not great, along with tail wing. I also have 2 trunk lids... Dash is cracked and junk... but I have it. I also have 2 sets of window moldings. Basically here what I have. 1 TA, well on its way to have more than half the metal work done. I have all the metal to finish it...The car has the trans and almost 2 sets of everything of which is still junk. Many pieces can be restored, but I don't want to give the impression that someone could just reassemble and drive away. 1, there is no motor and every piece is going to need TLC to make this old bird come alive again some day, plus im sure many broken and or missing pieces. I figure someone could take this body and parts and use it to restore their rusted out old Bird. This car has spent it (mostly) whole life in CA. Car was originally sold in Utah and made its way to Norcal for most of its life then back up to Utah. Back to my point... I have see some horrific SE bandits that had rust every where and people were still buying. Here is a great shell that can be restored or swapped out... until we see Dynacorn restamping TA bodies, this is about the best one can hope I guess. You will need a trailer and lots of room for all the pieces. I have as much in the car as possible, but fenders, hood, trans, etc and some extra storage bins will need to be accounted for as well. The first picture of the car is when I bought it.. so they pic is somewhat old and car in nor so together as I have been doing metal work on her hence.

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.

Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
