1970 Pontiac Trans Am - Ram Air III

Polar White (10) over Lucerne Blue (201), 4BBL 400 Ram Air III V8 (WS), M20 4-speed manual transmission, Numbers matching, Restored, Less than 500 miles since completion, No expense spared, PHS invoice and window sticker.

This 1970 1/2 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was built at the Norwood, Ohio plant and shipped to Sam Swope Pontiac in Louisville, Kentucky (still in business) on May 11, 1970.  It came equipped with the Ram Air III 4BBL 400 V8 producing 335 hp and an M20 wide-ratio manual transmission (both still with the car).  Other factory options include: Radio Pushbutton -W/S Ant (U63), Speaker -Rear Seat (U80), Mouldings-Decor (Y80), Custom Seat Belts and Front Shoulder Belts (AK1), Trunk Fitted Floor Mat (B42), and Door Edge Guards (B93).

Purchased in good, original condition out of a private collection in 2006, this Trans Am has since been restored. Having covered less than 500 miles since completion in 2010, it is still in ‘as-new’ mechanical and cosmetic condition.  Hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of dollars have been spent finishing the body and chassis to an extremely high standard.  The underside of the car is as nice as the top side, with a large amount of attention being paid to its stock ‘as-delivered’ configuration.  The only stock deviations on the car are bolt-in subframe connectors and a Flowmaster 2.5” dual exhaust (both easily removed if a fully stock setup is preferred).

The 400 cubic inch engine is original, numbers matching, and was completely rebuilt during the restoration.  While apart, the engine was fully balanced and hardened valve seats were installed (and setup for modern fuel).  The correct Rochester Quadrajet carburetor has been fully rebuilt to factory specifications.  The M20 transmission is numbers matching as well, has been inspected, and shifts smoothly with all the correct tags, castings, and stamps present.  The Trans-Am starts, runs, and drives as-new, producing every bit of the factory advertised 335 horsepower.  Period Hot Rod Magazine road test results quote a 0-60 time of 6.0 seconds and a 1/4 mile of 14.6 seconds - very respectable numbers even today, especially considering all of the technological advancements since.

Best in Class 2013 Camalcade of Customs, Cincinnati, OH.

This is a #1 car, you won't find one nicer!

This car is not a daily driver, it is a investment car.

I purchased the car as an actual mileage car as per the title. I also titled it as such, with mileage.

I have copy of window sticker and build sheet from Pontiac as well as a book on the restoration costs that exceed $110,000 !

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
