This is a 93 Pontiac Sunbird SE Convertible. The previous owner has diabetes and couldn't see well enough to drive and had to stop driving. He parked the car in his garage in 2004 and it has been there ever since. Please take a look at my YouTube video   http://youtu.be/cMwZnruEeN4 (Just copy and paste to your browser) for some reason Ebay would not allow a click-able link.

Upon taking possession of the car last month, I replaced the fuel tank with a new one. I also installed a new fuel pump, fuel gauge sender, fuel hoses in the fuel module, and all three fuel filters. I cleaned the fuel injectors, installed a new battery and it fired right up. I changed the oil (with Pennzoil synthetic blend) and installed a new oil filter. I changed the air filter and plug wires to bring the car back to excellent running condition. I will provide receipts for all the parts I bought. I have been a mechanic for 30+ years, so rest assured that all the work I did is by the book. The engine runs smooth with no abnormal noises and no leaks. The engine is tight and doesn't have any exhaust smoke, even in the morning after the first start. The Trans also shifts smooth without any abnormal problems, and also doesn't leak. All the lights work, the radio and cassette player work fine also. The car drives fine, brakes work good, dash lights all work. The spare tire, jack, and lug wrench are all in the trunk.
I also have some touch up paint I will include.

Now for the problems. Due to sitting for so long, the power windows are stiff and need to be cleaned and lubed. The driver side window works ok but the passenger window needs help to go up and down. The rear windows try to move but I can't get them all the way down. The switches and motors are all working, the windows are just very stiff from sitting because the grease on the regulators has hardened. The power top is not working, most likely due to dirty contacts (from non-use) in the switch although I have not looked into it. The power door locks also don't work probably because of dirty switch contacts. The tires are usable, but they are different brands and not in perfect condition. If I were going to keep the car I would put a new set of tires on it. The AC doesn't have any freon in it. It might seal up once it has freon and has been put back into service, although,
I cannot guarantee it. Often the hot oil circulating past the seals and o-rings causes them to soften and seal up.

I originally planned to repair most of the issues mentioned above, but I decided to offer the car for a lower price in case there were some buyers who preferred a lower price and who could take care of the remaining issues with the car on their own. I am willing to entertain an offer that includes the windows, door locks, power top, and AC working.

If the high bidder is from CA, I will get the car smog checked at a legitimate smog station and I will provide them with the receipt. Since the car will likely go out of state, I have not registered or smog tested it. Also, since the car has not been registered since 2004, it is no longer in the DMV computer, therefore, there are no back fees or penalties due. Out of state buyers will not have to worry about any of this. I will simply send you the title and a bill of sale.

If you have any questions...feel free to email me. I will respond promptly.

Thank you,
Josh

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4

Sun, Oct 8 2023

The mid-engined, plastic-bodied Pontiac Fiero two-seater caused great excitement when it hit the streets as a 1984 model, then became something of an embarrassment for GM when its design flaws became clear to the car-buying public. Still, when a V6 engine became available for 1985, followed by a fastback roof for 1986, the air of Pontiac Excitement around the Fiero lingered to a certain extent. We took a look at a discarded '86 Fiero GT with both the 2.8-liter V6 and the fastback body last year, and now we'll take a look at an example of the econo-commuter four-cylinder notchback version from the same year. Pontiac used the 2M4 designation (standing for two seats, mid-engine, four cylinders) on four-cylinder Fieros, while the six-cylinder cars were known as 2M6s. 2M4 decals went on four-banger Fieros for the 1984-1986 model years, while 2M6 decals seem to have been applied less consistently to the V6 cars of that period. During the early development period of the car that became the Fiero, the idea was that it would be a nimble sports car with a lightweight engine. Then the plan shifted, with the Fiero intended to be a gas-sipping commuter. When the car finally hit showrooms, it was a lot heavier than intended, it had a Chevy Citation front suspension in the back plus a Chevette front suspension, and its engine was the low-revving, weighty Iron Duke 2.5-liter straight-four. The Duke was about the least sports-car-appropriate four-cylinder engine The General could dredge up from his parts bins, but it was cheap and there was no shortage of production capacity. By the time the Fiero came out, the Iron Duke had been renamed the Tech 4. This one was rated at 92 horsepower and 132 pound-feet. The V6 Fieros get all the press today, but plenty of the Duked versions were sold (amazingly, the Chevrolet Camaro was available with Iron Duke power from 1982 through 1986). The emissions sticker tells us that this was a California-market car, rather than the "49-state" model the rest of the country got. California-specific emissions hardware added $99 to this car's price ($277 in 2023 dollars). While this car is a base model, the original buyer loaded it with options. The transmission is a three-speed automatic, priced at $465 (about $1,303 in 2023 dollars). A five-speed manual was standard equipment on the 1986 Fiero, though the old-fashioned four-speed manual was still available for a $50 credit ($140 now).

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix Daytona 500 Edition

Tue, Aug 29 2017

The W Platform proved to be extremely long-lived and versatile for General Motors, remaining in production from 1988 all the way through 2016. You had your Impalas and your Regals and your Cutlass Supremes, and of course the 1988-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix was a W-body. For the 2000 model year, Pontiac made the racy-looking Daytona 500 Edition Grand Prix, an example of which I just found in a Northern California self-service wrecking yard. 2,000 of these cars were made, presumably because it was the year 2000, and each one sports plenty of cool-looking Daytona 500 graphics. Perhaps some Regal owner will buy these seats and swap them. This is the second junked Daytona 500 Grand Prix I have seen recently, after this one in Colorado. The Daytona 500 was about the same as the GTP version, with Eaton-supercharged 3800 engine making a respectable 240 horsepower. Disappointingly, this car has an automatic transmission. It never saw 150,000 miles, unlike most 21st-century W-bodies I see in wrecking yards. Featured Gallery Junked 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix Daytona 500 Edition View 21 Photos Auto News Pontiac Sedan
