I am selling my 1977 Pontiac Can Am. This car is a documented 57,000 mile survivor with original paint and interior. I am the third owner. The car is in excellent condition for its age and comes with tons of documentation including PHS invoice, broadcast sheet, Troy ship document, original sales paperwork, receipts, letters from Pontiac, owners manuals, etc, etc.

Factory options on this Can Am include: Rally RTS Handling Package, Custom Air Conditioning, Custom Seat Belts, Front and Rear Bumper Guards, Front Seat Console, Soft Ray Glass, Inside Hood Release, Lamp Group, Front and Rear Floor Mats, AM/FM Stereo with 8 Track Tape Player, Stow Away Spare Tire, Luxury Cushion Steering Wheel, Tilt Steering Wheel, Can Am Option and Maintenance Free Battery.

This car was featured in the February 2008 edition of Popular Hot Rodding Magazine. It was photographed by the late Paul Zazarine, a well known automotive journalist. The first photo is from that article and was taken in 2001. The rest of the photos were taken this week. The car was sold new in North Carolina and was bought by the second owner in 2001 and brought to Texas. I purchased the car in 2007. Jim Wangers, creator of the Can AM package, signed the inside of the trunk lid for the previous owner in 2001 as seen in the photos.

The previous owner installed a 462 cubic inch Pontiac roller motor, dual exhaust and a 3:42 Eaton Posi rear end to improve performance. The car is very fast yet very streetable. It runs great on regular unleaded pump gas. The original engine and everything else to put the car back to bone stock is included. The original engine is in excellent condition with less than 50,000 miles on it.I had the original heads re-done and bought a new cam for the original engine with the intention to return the car back to stock, but never did.  The previous owner also added the optional in dash tach and optional sport steering wheel. Again, I have all of the original parts to return to bone stock if desired. The previous owner also painted the wheels black (they should be body color).

Everything works as it should on the car except the A/C. The A/C blew cold and worked great until the compressor clutch failed. The body and interior are very nice for a 36 year old car. There are no dents and there has never been any body damage. There are two small spots on the under side of the hood with very minor rust. There is no other rust anywhere on the car. There are some minor scratches and paint chips on the car and an area where the paint has some cracking at the factory seam on the drivers side B pillar. There is one small imperfection on the dash. All normal wear on a survivor car. I am describing every minor flaw that I am aware of in the interest of full disclosure. Again, this a great example of a very rare survivor Can Am.

The Pontiac Can Am was a mid size performance car based on the Pontiac LeMans Sport Coupe. It was a special edition option package, and was only available in 1977. There were less than 1400 built. The Can Am package included Can Am decals, tri color stripes, a lower body black stripe, shaker hood scoop, rear spoiler, Radial Tuned Suspension, Grand Prix style dash and instrument cluster with rally gauges and other standard features.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

General Motors has announced another set of recalls, covering some 2.42 million cars in the United States. For those keeping track, The General has now recalled over 15 million cars worldwide this year due to various issues.
Here's the breakdown for this most recent set of recalls:
1,339,355 - Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia models from the 2009 to 2014 model years; Saturn Outlook models from the 2009 to 2010 model years

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:
