1999 Pontiac Grand Prix Gtp Sedan 4-door 3.8l on 2040-cars

This listing is for a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged. This has been an excellent car, and I will miss it dearly. I have performed several modifications to the car to enhance the look and performance of it. It has a custom black metallic paint job with red metallic highlights. The car had the custom paint job in July of 2012, and it’s not perfect as it was done in a garage instead of a paint booth. The car does look very sharp though, and I have received nothing but compliments on it. I had custom hood scoops installed, and put in a cold air intake. I removed the mufflers in favor of straight pipes; however there is still a catalytic convertor and resonator in front of them. It is louder than stock, but it sounds really good if you like performance. It has quad exhaust tips, which I believe really set the car apart from most other Grand Prixs out there. Speaking of performance, when you consider the cold air intake in conjunction with the straight pipes the car has over 260hp (240hp was stock). I also have nearly brand new V-tread 225/55/16 tires on the front (stock was 225/65/16). This gears the car down a little and further increases the performance. However since there are smaller tires on the front of the car than the rear, you do have to turn off the traction control before you head down the road. There is nothing wrong with the traction control system, or the anti-lock brakes, but they were not made to work with two different size tires on the car. After you drive about a quarter of a mile down the road, the anti-lock brake light comes on and turns of the anti-lock brake system as well as traction control, and if you don't turn it off in advance the car putters while the computer adjusts. There is nothing wrong with the traction control or the anti-lock brake systems though, it's just something that happens because of the different size tires. If you were to put stock tire sizes back on, or all four of the same size this doesn't happen. No service lights are on (besides what I just mentioned). It has drilled and slotted brake rotors with high performance ceramic brake pads installed. I have installed custom headlights and taillights. The headlights have HID kits installed, and so do the fog lights! I have installed black outs on the head lights for an additionally sporty look! The custom taillights have LED bulbs inside. I have installed wind visors, sun roof visor, and a bug shield as well! I have had the car diamond glossed at Ziebart, and this includes a transferrable warranty. The window tinting also includes a lifetime warranty through Ziebart that will transfer. The interior of the car is in excellent condition, with minimal flaws for its age. There are a few carpet stains, but they are minimal (with the exception of the larger one in the trunk). The leather is in excellent condition - no tears, rips, or major cracks. The leather wrapped steering wheel is also in excellent condition, and you don't need a steering wheel cover (although I had one on to protect the wheel)! The sound system sounds excellent and has the additional tweeters in the tops of the door panels. The leather wrapped floor shifter is also in excellent condition and had the performance shift button on the side. All four door panels are in excellent condition as well. The custom head unit I installed is a Kenwood Excelon series, and has auxiliary input, built in equalizer, amplifier output, and many other options. The motor purrs like a kitten, and runs very strong. I have had no problems with this car mechanically. The heat and air conditioning both work excellently. This car has all of the options because it is the high performance GTP model. Everything works great! I especially love the heads up display, which shows up on the windshield in front of the driver showing you speed, turn signals, and whether or not you have your bright lights on. The power sunroof is also a ton of fun! Last summer I drove it to South Dakota and back with no problems. The transmission shifts smooth and strong. I have performed all of the oil changes myself and on time according to the Oil Life meter. I usually changed the oil early as soon as it would start to change color instead of waiting for the oil life meter to say it needed changed. I have owned the car since June of 2012. It had about 206,000 miles on it when I purchased it, so I am unsure of the history before that. However, in the time I have had it, I have found it to be an excellent car with no mechanical problems. That said, I am not a dealer or a professional mechanic, and I cannot give out a warranty on the car - it's as-is. This car does have the legendary 3800 Series II V6 in it that is known to run over 400,000 miles without an overhaul. The motor doesn’t burn oil and as I’ve said before runs very strong and starts in an instant!! With this engine there is no need for concern about the mileage, and I would drive it anywhere! I expect a down payment of $250 that is non-refundable, and the rest in cash upon transfer of title. Upon agreement of purchase I will contact you with arrangements to meet and finish the transaction. This will take place in Silver Lake, Indiana 46982. Thanks for

Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?
Fri, May 27 2016When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Junkyard Gem: 2008 Pontiac G5 Coupe
Sun, Apr 9 2023In the grim early days of the Great Recession, the situation at GM's Pontiac Division didn't feel so great but there was some cause for optimism. The Solstice still had a certain glow, the Holden Commodore-based G8 had just arrived, and vehicle shoppers could stride into their local Pontiac showrooms and choose from eight different models bearing the iconic arrowhead badge. Yes, there were still new Torrents and Grand Prix and Vibes for sale in 2008, and of course the Cavalier-twin Sunfire had been replaced by the Cobalt-twin G5 by that time. Here's one of those G5s, found in a Colorado Springs car graveyard. It wasn't long after this car was built that everything went to hell for Pontiac. In April of 2009, GM announced that the Pontiac Division would be "phased out" over the next few years. Just to drive home the point, GM itself filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy five weeks later. GM had already offed Oldsmobile—a marque dating back to 1897, making it nearly 30 years Pontiac's senior—five years earlier, so everybody knew there would be no reprieve in this case. Just to confuse everybody, Pontiac dealers offered a G3-badged Chevy Aveo (aka Daewoo Kalos) to sell alongside the G5 for 2009, but by 2010 there were just two new Pontiac models still standing in the United States: the G6 and the Vibe. Just over 70,000 G5s were sold in the United States during the 2007-2009 model years, making these cars fairly rare. The Cobalt/G5 ignition-switch fiasco of the mid-2010s really hammered their resale value at the time. Sometimes the definition of "Gem" refers to historical value, not the happier kind. Speaking of ignition switches, the key is still in this one. That generally means that a junkyard vehicle is a dealership trade-in or insurance total that couldn't sell at auction. This one is a base model, which listed at $15,675 (about $22,040 in 2023 dollars). The snazzier G5 GT started at $19,850 ($27,911 now) that year. The engine in this car is a 2.2-liter Ecotec four-banger rated at 148 horsepower and 152 pound-feet (the GT got a 2.4 with 171 hp/167 lb-ft). A five-speed manual was standard equipment, but the buyer of this car paid extra for the automatic. GM stuck these little "Mark of Excellence" badges on the fenders of its vehicles starting in 2005, then ditched the idea in 2009. I have vivid memories of this logo from the seatbelt buttons in my parents' 1973 Sportvan Beauville.
STUDY: Ford owns brand loyalty in 2009; Scorned Saturn, Pontiac buyers will look outside of GM
Fri, 16 Oct 2009Ford buyers appear to love their cars more than customers of any other automotive brand, returning back to the American automaker when it comes time to purchase their next vehicle. According to a study by Experian Automotive, six of the top 10 vehicles for customer brand loyalty wear badges from the Blue Oval. That includes the Ford Fusion (62.4 percent), Ford Edge (57.9 percent), Ford Five Hundred/Taurus (56 percent), Ford Freestyle (51.9 percent), Ford Escape (49.4 percent) and the Ford Focus (47.57 percent).
Other vehicles making up the top 10 include the Toyota Prius (52 percent), Chevy Impala (51.7 percent), Toyota Camry (47.8 percent) and Toyota Corolla (47.56 percent). This brings up an interesting question: With the closing of automotive brands like Saturn and Pontiac, where are those buyers to turn for their next automotive purchase?
Apparently, not back to General Motors. According to Experian, Pontiac owners are most likely to look to the Ford lineup for their next car or truck and Saturn shoppers will switch to Toyota or Honda - not particularly surprising given that Saturn was meant to compete with import brands. Experian predicts that GM's overall market share will fall from 20 percent to about 17.5 percent, with most of the slack being picked up by Ford, Honda and Toyota.
