This is a 1980 GP LJ. Originally it had the 231V-6 and 10bolt. My Dad bought this car brand new in 1980 so it's been in the family for almost 35 years. I bought it in 1992. This is what was done to the car.

I took the V-6 and drive-line out and I upgraded. I bought a Summit Racing 355CI crate engine withcorvette aluminum heads. Advertised HP is 325HP. It has hooker headers, Edlebrock Performer RPM intake with Holly 4barrel. It has aluminum rocker covers and chrome down to the oil pan. It has a built TH350 trans with a shift kit and a custom made drive shaft. The rear end is a Moser 9inch with 3:70's and a posi. The posi clutch pack needs a rebuild as I forgot to put the posi additive in it when I had it built. 4 wheel disk brakes with Hocthkiss tubular upper A arms with Camaro 11inch rotors. 11inch rotors in the back also. It also has a Accel Dist and coil.

The car was painted back in 1995 so it has a couple of nicks and chips. The car is stock 1980 white with all the chrome and body molding shaved. It also had the door handles filled with electric actuators. It has an Aqua pin strip down the side of the car with 15x8 Torque Thrust in the rear and 15x7's in the front.

The tail lights were replaced with 1979 model years. I liked the look better than the 1980's version. The interior seat were all re-upholstered and new carpet. It has a Hurst Shifter-no console. It has an original 1980's moon roof also and it doesnt leak!

The Engine and drive line only has 3500 miles on it. It needs to be driven. There are only a few issues with the car that need to be taken care of. It only needs a bit of TLC. But over-all, the car drives straight and sounds really good through its custom FlowMaster exhaust. Its a fun car to drive.

Im asking $6499.00 or BO.  I got about 6K just in the engine and driveline.

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire coupe

Thu, Feb 21 2019

In a few months, we'll reach the tenth anniversary of GM's axing of the venerable Pontiac brand. G6s, Vibes, and Matizes continued to be built until 2010, but I'm noticing a marked decrease in discarded Pontiacs lately, as I perform my junkyardy rituals. Here's a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, photographed in a Colorado wrecking yard. The Sunfire was the near-identical sibling to the Chevrolet Cavalier, based on the long-running (1982-2005) J-Body platform. It was cheap and simple, looked pretty sporty (at least in coupe form), and every parts store in North America carried just about everything you'd need to keep one running. This coupe had to compete for sales not only with a vast and menacing array of imports but with GM's own Saturn SC2 (not to mention the Cavalier itself). Meanwhile, the J platform was showing its age more with each passing year. This car sports what must have been the complete line of Fatal Clothing bomber-nose-art/skate-punk/gang-tag-influenced decals, circa 2010. I actually photographed this car back in 2011, then misplaced the image files until last week. The stickers are very California-centric for a Colorado car, but then plenty of Californians — including me— move here. When you know you're a car's final owner, it's a lot easier to whip out the paint pens and redecorate the interior. Power came from the engine GM developed for the very first J-Bodies: the 2.2-liter 122 pushrod four-cylinder. 2002 was the last model year for 122-powered Sunfires and Cavaliers; the most affordable S-10/Sonoma/Hombre trucks got this engine through 2003. It even came with a remote, so bad Midwestern farmgirls could make quick getaways when caught in the act by enraged broom-wielding mothers. This GTO-El Camino mashup is the muscle truck of our dreams

Fri, Aug 31 2018

There were a hell of a lot of great muscle cars in the mid-1960s, from the baroque Dodges and Plymouths of the earlier part of the decade to the wild big boys like the Boss 429 and Olds 442 W30. Right in the middle of the decade, two of the most iconic of the bunch emerged — the Pontiac GTO and second-generation Chevy El Camino. And this one is a 1964 Chevy El Camino with the heart and face of its GTO cousin, and dubbed the El Chieftain GTO. It's currently for sale at RM Sotheby's Auburn auction, with no reserve status or estimate listed. This looks like a product that Pontiac could have sold at the time — its builder, Ron Lindeman, did an excellent job making it look like a factory product, right down to the taillight strakes inspired by the GTO. It's powered by a 389 — a Pontiac motor that was actually found in period GTOs, but sporting a single four-barrel instead of the sexy Tri-Power setup. It is, however, equipped with a Hurst four-speed manual and the grille badge to prove it to bystanders. Even the interior is made up to look like a GTO. We wish there was more of a description of the build in the listing, but if you love it, do us one better and buy the thing and invite us to poke around it. We are very much in love with this muscle-truck mashup. Junkyard Gem: 1987 Pontiac Safari Station Wagon

Tue, Aug 9 2016

During the 1960s and 1970s, station wagons based on full-sized Detroit sedans were the default family haulers, and many of those Kingswood Estates and Country Squires and Ambassadors came with unapologetically phony woodgrain-printed exterior paneling and trim. By the late 1980s, however, few were snapping up such wagons, making this '87 Safari that I spotted in a Denver yard an interesting find. Power for this wagon came from a 307-cubic-inch Oldsmobile V8 making 140 horsepower. General Motors used this engine in Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Chevrolets, Pontiacs, and Cadillacs, finally discontinuing production for the 1990 model year. Was the "wood" convincing, even when new? Of course not, but it was a cherished American tradition. Related Video: Featured Gallery 1987 Pontiac Safari station wagon in Colorado junkyard View 18 Photos Auto News Pontiac station wagon
