Restoration Project 1968 Gto on 2040-cars
Tacoma, Washington, United States
| 1968 GTO for restoration. A true GTO that is original except the engine. It has a good running 1969 400/350hp engine coded XH from a Grand Prix. The engine was in an other car and was rebuilt years ago but sat due to a broken heater hose pipe. I replaced the timing cover, cleaned and painted the engine and installed it in this GTO primarily to get the car drivable. Although it's painted, it has NOT been recently rebuilt! It does run well, burns no oil and makes no unusual noises. The car should have a YS coded 400, but this engine works well until a YS is located. That was my thinking. The transmission and rear are original. TH400 and a non-posi rear. The body is in good condition. All the body panels are original except the trunk lid. There are dents all over but very little rust. The only rust holes are behind the right rear wheel, the back lower part of the right fender and a few small holes in the trunk. The floor pans, roof, doors, frame, dash, etc, are rust free. Car has whats left of the original Springmist green paint so nothing to hide. The left quarter was hit at one time and a partial quarter from a doner tempest was installed but needs to be finished. There is no body filler on the car except the trunk lid which is not original and should BE REPLACED with a nicer one. The seats are right, but worn out and wrong color. Needs lots of interior work but almost complete. I also have all the trim you see missing in the pictures. The AC parts are all there but the belt. all heater/ac modes work. Heater works, AC has no refrigerant. Steering gear is good, brakes are poor. Left front wheel locks up under hard braking. Exhaust is NEW and OEM. The hood is buckled, will need a new hood. The headlight doors are all original and still work! The radio does not work. Nor does the clock. The wiper arms are missing, but the motor works and I have the stainless panel for the cowl. The front bumper is not very good. It could be repaired but recommend replacing it. As mentioned earlier, body has quite a few dents. Mainly the right quarter, right door and left fender, but all repairable in my opinion. Dash pad has just one crack. Console nice, missing lid. All door panels, headliner and carpet MISSING. Wheels are correct 14x6 JC missing two trim rings.Rocker chrome included and decent, rear wheel moldings MISSING. All and all a VERY good car that deserved and full restoration and super solid structure. It wont take much to make the car an everyday driver. Just brake work and minor work. The master cylinder is new and I have the original master cylinder that needs rebuilt. Color codes P2. Springmist Green, black vinyl top. interior code 223, black. Clear title. Car will start and drive onto a car hauler no problem. No deposit necessary, but require full payment within 10 days after auction ends. |

BMX rider flips for wrecked Detroit football stadium
Fri, Jun 12 2015Detroit is littered with derelict ruins. Abandoned automotive assembly plants, sure – but also former sports venues, like Tiger Stadium in Corktown, Roesink Stadium in Hamtramck, and the Silverdome in Pontiac. BMX rider Tyler Fernengel remembers going to see the Lions and Pistons play at the Silverdome in his youth, and competed there in Supercross as a boy. The stadium hasn't been used in years, but now, with his career just picking up, Tyler has returned to film this video – riding through its halls, jumping its stairwells and flipping over its grandstands and field. It's a fitting tribute to a once-great venue of suburban Michigan. Check out the footage in this latest clip from Red Bull. Woman Cleared In Fatal Car Wreck After GM Letter
Tue, Nov 25 2014A Texas judge cleared a woman Monday for a car accident that killed her fiance in 2004, after General Motors acknowledged that her car would have been among millions being recalled for a problem that may have contributed to the death. Candice Anderson was driving a 2004 Saturn Ion when it suddenly veered off a road about 60 miles east of Dallas and slammed into a tree. Anderson, then 21, was severely injured when the car's air bags failed to deploy. Her 25-year-old fiance, Gene Erikson, who was a passenger, was killed. She later pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the wreck. But during a hearing Monday, State District Judge Teresa Drum expunged the conviction from her record, according to officials in the Van Zandt County court andAnderson's attorney, Bob Hilliard. In a letter given to the court ahead of the hearing, an attorney for the automaker confirmed that Anderson's Saturn would have been among 2.6 million GM vehicles recalled in February to address ignition switches that can slip out of the "run" position, causing the engines to stall and disabling power steering, brakes and air bags. Anderson's crash "is one in which the recall condition may have caused or contributed to the frontal air bag non-deployment in the accident," attorney Richard C. Godfrey wrote. Hilliard provided a copy of the letter to The Associated Press, and Godfrey confirmed its contents Monday. Anderson was initially charged with criminally negligent homicide because there was no clear explanation at the time why the wreck occurred, according to court documents from the case. She pleaded guilty to a letter charge in 2006, and was sentenced to five years' probation. She also was ordered to perform 260 hours of community service, pay court costs and cover the costs of Erikson's funeral. "GM knew this defect caused this death, yet instead of telling the truth watched silently as Candice was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter," Hilliard said Monday. "It took 10 years for GM to find its voice." In a separate statement issued by the company, GM said it "cooperated fully by providing technical information that was requested to make a decision in this matter." The carmaker also said the issue in Anderson's case was for local law enforcement and courts to consider. "That's why we took a neutral position on Ms. Anderson's case," the company's statement said. "It was appropriate for the court to determine the legal status of Ms.
Junkyard Gem: 2007 Pontiac G6 GT Convertible
Sun, Jan 8 2023GM's Pontiac Division sold its first convertibles during the 1927 model year (just a year after the division's creation), then proceeded to offer memorable drop-tops for most of the following 83 years. The best-selling convertible to bear Pontiac badges during our current century was the retractable-hardtop-equipped G6, available from the G6's introduction in 2006 through the second-to-last model year of 2009 (the Sunfire convertible was available just through 2000, while the Firebird convertible vanished with the demise of the slow-selling Firebird itself after 2002). Here's one of those G6 GT convertibles, found in a Denver-region boneyard after a crash ended its driving career. Mashed right front, popped airbags. This sort of damage might have been worth repairing in 2009, but not today. The 2007 G6 was available as a coupe, sedan, or convertible. All the convertibles had the GT trim level and the 3.5-liter V6 and its 224 horsepower. The MSRP on this car was $28,750 (about $42,325 in 2022 dollars), making it the most expensive G6. The power hardtop roof folded up into the trunk, leaving 1.8 cubic feet of trunk storage space with the top down. This Karmann-designed roof system made the interior much quieter than that of a traditional soft-top convertible. All G6s were built at Orion Assembly in Michigan, where Chevy Bolts are born today. The G6 was built through the 2010 model year, making it one of the very last Pontiac models (the Vibe also made it to 2010, though it was really a Toyota Matrix). In hindsight, 2007 turned out to be an ominous year for GM.Â
