Up for sale is an extremely well preserved 1966 Pontiac GTO Convertible. This car is PHS documented and is in excellent condition. The engine of the car was rebuilt several years ago and I have put about 3000 miles on the car since. I just installed a new top, and the car has new Coker Red Line radial tires. This car was optioned with factory air conditioning, very rare for a convertible. It also has the highly desirable power window option. The paint is very good, and there are no rips or tears in the upholstery. There are a few small holes in the back window boot, but they are in a location that is not easily visible.
I have been told that the engine is not the original engine that was delivered with the vehicle. Sometime in the past, the engine was replaced with another correct 1966 389 engine, but the engine date code indicates a delivery date later than the delivery of the vehicle. I have owned this car since 1996.This is a California car, and I know of no rust on the vehicle. The only known defects on the car is the clock (which was not running last time I drove the vehicle) and a few minor paint dings. The car currently is located near Austin Texas. In the event this car does not sell on E-Bay, it will be placed in an upcoming Barrett-Jackson auction, so it will not be re-listed. The "Buy It Now" price is lower than I anticipate the BJ auction would bring, but it will save me the cost of transporting and travel expenses. I will load additional pictures in a few days. |

GM expands ignition switch recall to over 1.3 million cars amid climbing death toll
Tue, 25 Feb 2014
588,000 Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR models join the 778,000 cars already being recalled.
General Motors has announced a massive expansion of a 778,000-unit recall we told you about two weeks ago, doubling not only the total number of cars affected but expanding the recall beyond Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 models previously mentioned. The recall originally centered around ignition switches that could slip out of the "run" position if jostled or if any weight was applied to the key in the cylinder.

And a lot of those ways can be boring or tasteless. This one is neither. This is a seriously classy Pontiac GTO. Under the hood is a 461 cu. in. V8 from Butler Performance that's based on an actual Pontiac V8, not just another Chevy engine. The whole thing is subtle with a low-key metallic green and clean gray wheels. There isn't any overly flashy chrome or decals.
Burt Reynolds' old Pontiac Trans Am replica sold for $317,500
Thu, Jun 20 2019Following Burt Reynolds' passing last September, Julien's Auctions held an estate sale of the late actor's property on June 15-16 in Beverly Hills, Calif. Hundreds of items were included in the auction, but none more valuable than the Pontiac Trans Am Bandit replica previously owned by Reynolds. It easily surpassed expectations when it sold for $317,500. Julien's, the self-proclaimed experts in contemporary and pop culture, listed 876 pieces in the sale, from cowboy boots to a driver's license to scripts. The online preview said it estimated a range of prices from $25 to $200,000. They were way off. Item No. 716 was a replica of a Pontiac Trans Am Bandit that was seen in the original "Smokey and the Bandit." Not the real car, just a re-creation. But its value comes more from who owned the ride rather than what the car was. The replica was owned by Reynolds for some years, and now that he's passed, it's coveted even more. It's not the only Trans Am item that sold at auction. Three Reynolds Trans Am model cars sold for $640, $576 and $512. A Reynolds-signed "Bandit" poster sold for $3,200. A Reynolds-signed poster from the Trans Am plant sold for $1,562.50, a Reynolds custom-built Trans Am office desk sold for $4,375, and a "Smokey and the Bandit" decorative etched glass panel sold for $896. This isn't the first time a Bandit replica has sold for big money. In 2016, a promotional Trans Am sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction for $550,000. We also believe the exact car sold in this Julien's auction was previously bought at a Barrett-Jackson auction in 2018 for $192,500. If that's the case, somebody just made an extremely easy profit.
