Vehicle came out of Missouri, supposedly purchased new out of Frank Dreier Pontiac-Cadillac out of Flat River, MO. It has underwent a body on restoration within the last 10 or so years, and has been meticulously redone by previous owner to a GREAT DRIVER.

Some time in the 1980s this car had a state assigned VIN put on it as far as we can determine due to registration issues. I have obtained certified documents from a Secretary of State record check to prove this fact. The Missouri DMV shows no record of the original VIN ever being titled anywhere so there is not another one of this car out there floating around from our research. I have included pictures of these documents at the end of the webpage and they are all to be supplied to the buyer. This assigned vin was attached when these cars had very little value so it was obviously done without any future collector interest in mind or to make the car into something it wasn't. We were able to find a full vin on the block and data on the cowl for authentication purposes. Every date code we have found on this car from the block to the ring gear and the axle, to the windshield wiper motor and cowl tag coincides with the PHS report. At the direction of Pontiac Historic Services we used the stamped VIN numbers on other areas of the car for authentication.

This car passed a Missouri State ID check with flying colors which is State Law required by the Highway Patrol when a vehicle is brought into the state when we titled it , it was clearly marked as a GTO on the title, and has been insured with a major collector car insurer as a 1969 GTO Judge for the full NADA value of $147,000.00 with the blessings of their appraiser. It has features that are GTO only specific like it's original quarter panels with the GTO side markers and the"242" car data plate matching the VIN and PHS - all providing evidence that this car is and always has been a true 242 GTO.

The body on this car is very solid and was solid before we did any restoration work on it.
This car has all its original floors and trunk that are very solid for it's age. It has original sheetmetal including rear quarters - the rear quarters were repaired with lower repair panels There are no other aftermarket body panels. Even the rear inner quarters and wheel houses are original and they attach with smooth seams to the new patch panels - this car is not perfect, but it is very nice in these respects

All of the original frame and suspension bushings are still in place and you can clearly read the part numbers on the frame bushings - I do have pics of this in the photos showing the bodyshop scenes.

The doors hang nicely with good gaps and they shut very well. All new rubber around the doors and trunk, window rubber is original and worn, however I have brand new pieces that come with the car - it will be up to the buyer to install them.

All of the original body lines are present in this car. The subtle bullet shapes in the doors and rear quarter panels are there. The panels are straight and not wavy like many I see up for sale. The cokebottle body shape on these cars is one of my favorites and deserves to look correct.

The rear inner wheel houses are original and are firmly attached with smooth edges when you run your fingers around the inside of the wheel arches, the body panels all sound hollow like they should when you tap on them, the bottoms of the doors are perfect and very clean around the drain holes. The original rubber plugs and drains are still in place in the inner rear quarter drops.

Under the hood lies a stock 400ci motor "XN" code that fires right up, sounds great, has excellent compression and power and fires on all 8 cylinders. Vehicle will ALSO come with PHS DOCUMENTED "YZ" coded 400ci/360hp RAM AIR III engine as well (NOT INSTALLED IN THE CAR). LOTS of additional pictures can be found at this link: http://www.webeautos.com/detail-1969-pontiac-gto-for_sale-used-10037476.html

This engine is a YZ code Ram Air III with the original VIN stamped on the block with the correct casting date for the car, with earlier dated 16 heads, and correct date coded intake, full windage tray, and center drain oil pan is included with the sale.

This is the correct 4 bolt main drilled 9790071 block with 2 bolt caps which is 100% correct for this car - it has never been bored or machined - May of 1969 dated casting for a June of 1969 car

The crankshaft appears to be a Ram Air IV crank, but was in the bottom end that appeared to have never been opened up. It is a 9794054 partially cast, partially stamped number Nodular N marked Central Foundries Division unit with an early 1969 Julian code - it is standard sized and not damaged or worn and had GM factory bearings on the mains on rods when we disassembled.

Mechanically it fires right up and sounds great. Transmission is solid and shifts good through all the gears and has been COMPLETELY REBUILT. Brakes have been checked and adjusted and stop very well without any issues. Car feels great, handles the road nicely, sounds great and is very responsive with virtually NO play in the steering wheel.

Interior is all stock as you'll see in the pictures. EVERYTHING IS NEW (seat covers, seat foam, seat backs, door panels, armrests, rear package tray, dash pad). Headliner in the car has a few small holes (NEW one included, not yet installed). Carpet is presentable. Steering wheel is very nice. Overall a beautifully presentable interior for a high-end driver.

Rear bumper and rest of the chrome is VERY NICE. Outside mirror and rear taillight bezels are original and pitted and should be replaced, other than that, everything else is great.

The old girl is NOT perfect by any means of course so please keep that in mind when bidding. Paint is overall EXCELLENT and shows very nicely but it is not show quality. If you look really close you'll see some very minor imperfections here and there and there is a little bit of filler by lower quarters where the patch panels were installed and in front of the rear wheels. Front bumper fit is ok but could be better (as is the case with most endura bumpers). A/C is all there and hooked up but has not been serviced for use yet. Not working: radio (not hooked up, missing antenna), perhaps a bulb or two may need replacing where needed.

I am sure there are several other things I am forgetting at the moment, so overall she is not perfect and to do it justice should be gently restored to your liking, or you can just drive it as is. Please note, I cannot remember every single issue with the car, nor do I know everything wrong with it, as it is after all nearly 50 years old so keep that in mind.

If you just want a GORGEOUS LOOKING AND SUPER FUN DRIVER that runs/drives good, then this is the car for you. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
