1969 Pontiac Gto Convertible on 2040-cars
Winter Haven, Florida, United States
Condition is excellent, no dings or dents, first class restoration.
Vehicle is a reborn 1969 Pontiac GTO 2 Door Convertible, Warwick Blue, White
Top, Dark Blue Interior, Bucket Seats. History: We have owned this car since 1986. It was built in
Baltimore, purchased at Coggins Pontiac in Jacksonville, and has been in Florida all it’s life. It
is a numbers matching car except for the engine and rear end. Both are available for purchase if you want to make it a numbers matching car again.
We opted for the higher horsepower 428 Ram Air engine with a functioning Ram Air induction system, and a much stronger rear end.
Features: AM/FM radio, A/C, PS, PB, PT, CC, Rally gauge cluster, hidden headlamps, remote outside rear view mirror, passenger side rear view mirror, deck lid release package, 15" Rally II wheels, custom sports steering wheel, ride & handling package, floor console, glove box & trunk lighting. The original Turbo Hydramatic 400 was completely rebuilt with all the popular modifications for performance and durability. The ten bolt 1972 Buick rear axle assembly is the newer 8.5 inch ring gear model with improved bearings. It is the Safe-T-Track limited slip differential 2.56:1 which helps gas mileage. Local professional Ron Pence of R&R Performance Auto Specialties in Lakeland completed the frame off rotisserie restoration, including every nut and bolt and front
glass replacement. Ron used rust free Arizona front
fenders and reproduction rear quarters to replace the salt water ruined parts thanks to years of running up and down our beautiful beaches. Also used were our accumulated NOS and some reproduction parts, Allison breaker less C/D ignition
system, Ram Air III cast iron exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust system with crossover
pipe. Added was the Royal Bobcat upgrades starting with a 1969 428 engine, decals, trim, and special paint scheme, plus seven blade fan, desert cooler radiator, dash tachometer,
Stewart-Warner triple gauge pod, front disc brakes, boxed rear control arms,
rear sway bar, larger front sway bar, stiffer springs, rear deck airfoil. Stephen’s Engine Builders built the 428 engine by boring .030 making it 455 ci, using hypereutectic pistons, Ram Air III
cast iron exhaust manifolds, Melling Ram Air III camshaft, 1.5 rocker arms, and high volume oil pump. They also added the Holley Dual ProJection 1340 cfm TBI fuel injection system
on an Offenhauser aluminum dual quad intake manifold. It runs on 92 octane fuel. The original speedometer was showing 32,233 before restoration, and the new one shows 7,799 meaning about 140,032 miles.
The original 400 ci engine, and non posi 3.23:1 rear axle, and top boot may be available. Take a close look at all the photos, this GTO has been assembled better than any ever were off the factory line. Painstaking measures were taken to make every gap between sheet metal and all exterior parts absolutely prefect. Pay special attention to the front end and rear bumper on this car compared to other GTO's, and you WILL see the difference. You won't find another GTO with such perfect gaps around the entire vehicle. Check the hide away headlights that open and close properly, plus stay open like they are supposed to do. More photos of the vehicle are available at this

Toyota urges owners of old Corolla, Matrix and RAV4 models to park them until airbags are replaced
Mon, Jan 29 2024DETROIT — Toyota and General Motors are telling the owners of about 61,000 older Corolla, RAV4, Matrix/ Pontiac Vibe models to stop driving them because their Takata airbag inflators are at risk of exploding and hurling shrapnel. The urgent warning Monday covers: Certain Corolla compact cars and Matrix hatchbacks from the 2003 and 2004 model years. RAV4 small SUVs from 2004 and 2005. Also covered are about 11,000 Pontiac Vibes from 2003 and 2004, which are essentially the same as the Matrix and were made at the same California factory. Most of the vehicles are in the U.S. “If the airbag deploys, a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments, which could cause serious injury or death to the driver or passengers,” Toyota said in a statement. Owners can go to nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their cars are affected. If you're not the original owner of the vehicle, the manufacturer's recall letter might not reach you, so be sure to do the VIN check. The recalled RAV4s have Takata driver's airbags while the Corolla and Matrix models have them on the passenger side. The Corolla and Matrix also are under a separate recall because their airbags can be deployed without a crash, the company said. Both companies said owners should contact a local dealer instead of driving the cars in for repairs. Dealers will provide options such as mobile repair, towing the car to a dealer, or vehicle pickup and delivery. Takata used volatile ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion to inflate airbags in a crash. But the chemical propellant can deteriorate over time when exposed to high temperatures and humidity. It can explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister and spewing shrapnel. At least 26 people have been killed in the U.S. by Takata inflators since May 2009, and at least 30 have died worldwide including people in Malaysia and Australia. In addition, about 400 people have been injured. The exploding airbags sent Takata of Japan into bankruptcy. The potential for a dangerous malfunction led to the largest series of auto recalls in U.S. history. About 100 million inflators were recalled worldwide. Recalls Pontiac Toyota Takata airbag recall
Why Pontiac should come back and how it can be relevant again
Mon, Apr 17 2017When I was a kid growing up in Metro Detroit, our family was always entwined in the General Motors empire. My dad and some of our relatives worked for GM in various capacities, and we had our fair share of Chevrolet, GMC, and even Buick products in our humble driveway. However, it was my Uncle Ed that always had a vehicle from the one GM brand that always appealed to me the most: Pontiac. Seeing him pull up in his Pontiac 6000 and later the '90s era Grand Prix sedan that replaced it was always an exciting occasion, and both of these models also reflected the playful spirit that once defined the Pontiac brand. Back when Pontiac first got its performance groove on in the '60s, names such as GTO, Firebird, as well as Bonneville became iconic nameplates in the broader muscle car era. The '80s saw Pontiac lose some of its styling heritage, but also try new things at the same time including turbocharging as well as the mid-engine sports car with the flawed but still sleek Pontiac Fiero. When the Pontiac brand was shuttered in 2009, it was a mere few years after I earned my drivers license, and also when Pontiac was just beginning to regain some of its lost luster. Granted cookie cutter efforts like the Pontiac G3, (Chevrolet Aveo) G5, (Chevrolet Cobalt) and G6 (Chevrolet Malibu) certainly did not help matters during Pontiac's final years on the market, but two models in particular offered a compelling glimpse into what could've been for the storied brand. The first was the Pontiac Solstice roadster/coupe. Originally introduced as a concept back in 2004, and championed by everyone's fighter jet flying auto executive Bob Lutz, the Solstice was designed to be a serious competitor to the Mazda Miata, and while its interior ergonomics were flawed and the top solution not ideal. It proved to be a fun little car to drive, and also a sales success for Pontiac with initial demand exceeding expectations. This was especially due to its lineup of engines with the 2.0 liter LHU turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 260 horsepower in GXP variants. The second and (inarguably my favorite Pontiac model) was the Pontiac G8 sedan. Originating in Australia as the Holden Commodore VE, the G8 was designed to rectify the multitude of sins created by the last generation Bonneville. Front wheel drive was pitched in favor of rear wheel drive, and for the first time in a long time interior ergonomics and cladding free exterior styling were key building blocks for success.
Porsche Sports Car Together Fest is a labor of many Porsche loves
Sat, Sep 17 2022Over Labor Day Weekend, Porsche held its second annual Sports Car Together Fest (SCTF) at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We happened to be nearby, so we swung by to check out an event we’d never heard of until a few weeks before. Reading about it on Porsche's U.S. web site made us think it would be something like Rennsport Reunion for the Midwest. Turns out SCTF is just as much of a different kind of fun. The fest Tom MooreÂ’s the man behind Dark Horse Motorsports, the motorsport consultant for Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) PR. "People love Rennsport Reunion, but thatÂ’s every three to four years," he explained. “We wanted to gather people on those off years, and we didn't want to just do a mini Rennsport, because thatÂ’s its own thing. WeÂ’ve maintained the motorsport history at Rennsport. Here [at SCTF], we're doing the current look at what Porsche racing is for." In this case, that means gathering what Moore called "our Porsche motorsport pyramid." ThatÂ’s the range of enthusiast drivers from novice to hotshoes trying to get to top-tier endurance racing, "[starting] with the progression from Porsche Club of America track days up to the top of the ladder of one-make racing in North America," the Carrera Cup North America, a series made up of nothing but the latest 500-horsepower 911 GT3 Cup cars. The three days of racing action allowed almost any kind of Porsche owner interested in clipping apexes to compete around an Indianapolis Motor Speedway layout tweaked with an infield section. This year, that included ex-NASCAR star Jeff Gordon, coming out of retirement to reunite with his longtime NASCAR crew chief Ray Evernham for the top-class Cup races. Evernham told us Gordon hasnÂ’t raced in five years and he hasnÂ’t been a crew chief in 22. On very short practice, Gordon finished in 14th in the Pro Class in the first Carrera Cup race of the weekend driving the #24 Hendrick Performance Group Porsche, and 11th in the second race. Afterward, he said, "I made a pass on the white flag lap. That made my whole weekend Â… I must say that yesterday, I thought ‘man, I am getting beat out hereÂ’ and I donÂ’t like that. If I am going to be in an environment like this, I want to be competitive. But today turned the corner for me. So, I hope I get to do another one day." When we strolled the paddock after the event, exposed sheet metal proved "Rubbing is racing" is a thing in the Carrera Cup as well as NASCAR.
