1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 Clone. on 2040-cars
South Lyon, Michigan, United States

History: Originally this car was a Texas car not a Michigan rust bucket. It has a Texas Public Safety sticker for 2007 and a University of Texas sticker in the back window. Both could be removed but lend credence to the history. A gentleman in Minnesota purchased the car in 2007 and shortly thereafter lost his job. After watching the car for sale on ebay several times I finally bid and won the car. I took a train to Minnesota and drove the car back to northern Michigan. It drove great at 70 mph and got about 20 mpg. I believe I have the original dash gauges with the actual miles but i stuck it in a box when i added the rally gauges. Will see if i can dint it but I believe it was not over 150k miles.
Was restored and painted around 2006 or 2007 but I don't recall exactly what the previous owner told me. It has a rebuilt 1968 Pontiac 350 for a motor and a TH 350 for a transmission. Both work great. As 1973 was a tough emissions year this car only has a 2 barrel carb, single exhaust and open differential i believe. It was an AC car and has power front disc brakes. This is not a restomod car. It is accurately restored to look like a Formula from that year. The engine isn't all fancied up but it has power to spare. Engine bay is dusty but relatively unmolested and original. This car is relatively unmolested which is a rarity these days. It has the non functional ram air hood, Formula fender badges and hood lettering as well as rally gauges and steering wheel. With a 4 barrel intake, dual exhaust and posi this car would be a screamer. As it sits now it is very fast and easily breaks loose the open diff. There really is nothing major wrong with this car. It is not a show car per se but I am not embarrassed to take it to shows and get many compliments on the car. Some trim pieces are worn and could stand to be replaced or touched up with dye and thats about all. Possibly different rear tires if you aren't into the shackled up look. It has a new headliner, rear package tray, seat vinyl and carpet. Console is in good condition but could use a new console storage bin cover. Dash is decent(one small crack and one section peeling up at the edge) with wood grain in great condition. All gauges but the oil pressure work fine. Heat works, AC does not. Wheels have been restored and paint looks good with only a few minor dings from being driven. Good brakes and plenty of tire tread. Rides very nice for a 41 year old car. I've probably only put 1000 miles on it since i got it home driving to and from car shows, cruises and sunday drives. Silver/Black is not the original scheme. I believe it was Tan/Camel interior and Blue or Red exterior. I did find a small dent in the lower fascia in the center top that looks like i may have bumped something into when putting it under the car. I think you can see it in the front pic right in the center top next to the mounting bolt. NO RUST! Appears to be all original sheet metal. No patches and can be driven confidently anywhere. I have some trim pieces I can include as well as a parts car and other misc parts if the price is right. Reason I am selling...tooooo many projects and am running out of storage space. This car has never seen snow and only minor rain driving home from rained out car shows. Always garage kept for the last 7 years. I plan to enjoy this car all summer unless it sells. If it doesn't sell then it goes back into storage. This car is in southern Michigan but I would be willing to deliver within a couple hundred miles for the price of gas and an airplane/bus/train ticket back home. Email with any questions you may have. Emails that even remotely resemble spam will be deleted. If you want to talk then send me your phone number. I've put in the time to write an informative ad and put pictures up so don't waste my time. My reserve price is set at what I paid for the car 7 years ago so I think it's more than fair. On Jul-07-14 at 08:09:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Couple things I forgot to mention: rearview mirror needs to be reglued to windshield, car has driver and passenger side mirrors, black floor mats, wipers work as does squirter. Please read payment information before bidding. Thanks. On Jul-07-14 at 08:11:49 PDT, seller added the following information: And just to reiterate, this is not a Formula, this is a Formula Clone or a Firebird made to look like a Formula. It is in the subtitle but I want everyone to be clear on what they are bidding on. Good Luck. On Jul-07-14 at 15:00:55 PDT, seller added the following information: I put a video on youtube of the car. If you search "1973 Pontiac Firebird Formula Clone" you should be able to view the video. Thanks for the bids and good luck. |

GM recalling over 40,000 Chevy, Pontiac and Saturn models over fuel pump woes
Mon, 01 Oct 2012The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for a number of General Motors cars and crossovers bought or currently registered in the hot-climate states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. As many as 40,859 units consisting of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Ion and the 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt (shown) and its Pontiac G5 twin are being recalled for potential fuel leaks.
This recall is being issued due to potentially faulty fuel pump components that can crack and cause gasoline to leak from the return or supply ports and possibly cause a fire. NHTSA has not indicated how many fuel leaks or vehicle fires have been reported. As a fix, GM will replace the fuel pump modules on all affected vehicles free of charge. Since Pontiac and Saturn have been shuttered, owners will be able to go to another GM-brand dealership to have their vehicles repaired.
While the list of affected cars and crossovers varies by state and model year, if you own any of these models and live in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma or Texas, be sure to check the official notice below for more details.
Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?
Wed, 07 Oct 2009 DeLorean Motor Company Pontiac Solstice renderings - Click above for high-res image gallery
General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.
Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way
Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
