1986 Pontiac Fiero Gt. Great Condition. Ready For Summer Cruising. on 2040-cars

Year:1986 Mileage:93440

I have a very clean 1986 Fiero GT that is a great driver and fun to drive. I bought the car 4 years ago and have only put less than 500 miles on it. When I bought the car I fixed everything that needed fixing including, new paint, new dew strips, and new head liner. The car sat quite sometime before I bought it, so I had the brakes gone thru, oil change, tune-up etc.We have not been able to drive it as much as I would have liked to and it has pretty much sat in heated storage for the last 3 years. When I got it out this year, It had no spark, so I rebuilt the distributor with new coil, module, cap and rotor. She purrs like a kitten again. The car drives and sounds great. There are 2 things that need to be fixed on the car. Number one is, the windshield wiper switch is flakey. Every once in a while when you turn on thr turn signal the wipers will stroke one time. I could'nt find a new switch locally. Since I never drive my toys in the rain, I wired a inline switch to just shut them off. I did not cut any wires. It is just plugged into the fuse block so it can be undone in less than 2 minutes. The wipers work fine when the switch is on. The second thing is the driver seat bolster has worn thru (see picture) . the rest of the interior looks great. Oh, one more thing. there is some a small spot of stickum on the dash where somebody had a radar detector or something stuck to the dash. The radio is not stock but sounds great and has a CD player. I don't know of anything else that needs attention. I believe the car is ready to drive anywhere. That being said it is 28 years old and is being sold as is. There is no warranty or guarantee what so ever.I am selling it because we are looking at retiring out of state and all of the toys must go. Tires are not new but have plenty of tread. Also car has a alarm system. You can see the key pad in one of the pictures. A $500.00 deposit is required within 48 hours and balance can be paid in cash at time of pick-up. Good luck and happy bidding.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.
