Offering for sale my1970 Pontiac Catalina. Car is in excellent drive-anywhere condition. Owned for 10 +years. Exterior paint is very nice, as is original vinyl top.Sheet metal is all original, with perfect floors and trunk and no rust. Chrome is also original, in very nice shape,,and while not perfect, it is 100% straight and not pitted. Interior is 9.5 out of 10, with original headliner, door panels, and rear package tray. Original dash pad is perfect, with no cracks, and all instrumentation is clean and crisp. I replaced the carpet not due to wear, but from fading. The seats have been done in Ventura pattern in ultra soft leather. The entire seats have been done in leather, including seat backs, skirts, and headrests, not just seating areas. Very expensive and excellent result. All mechanicals have been gone and either replaced or rebuilt from radiator to rear axle. Original, matching numbers engine has been professionally rebuilt with the best components including TRW pistons, Rhodes lifters, Edelbrock camshaft and double row timing chain, stainless(big valve) steel valves, and all new push rods and rockers. Retro-fitted with completely restored 1966 tri-power setup, with NOS center carb. Original TH400 trans has been redone, as has all bearings in rear axle, while retaining stock 2.93 gears. All other components such as radiator, starter, alternator, p/s pump, a/c compressor, engine wiring  harness, belts, hoses etc, are all new. Factory A/C blows ice cold, however need blower resistor as high speed stopped working. Blower motor has also been replaced few years back. Factory front disc brakes and rear shoes have been done approx 4000 miles ago. Dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40's. American Racing highly polished  5 spokes are 17x7 in front and 17x8 on rear. Brand new(less than 200 miles) Michelins, installed before winter storage. Car has perfect stance, and have recieved many compliments. Also have original Pontiac Rally II wheels with red PMD center caps in excellent condition with perfect trim rings.

Stops, steers, shifts, handles, and travels down highway like new. Would not hesitate to drive car anywhere. Only issue is that I suspect tank sender might need replacement soon, as it will stick on occasion.

Have shown it and have won many awards over the years.

Junkyard Gem: 2007 Saturn Sky

Sat, Jun 26 2021

The Pontiac Division didn't have long to live when the Solstice first appeared in 2005 as a 2006 model, and Saturn's head was inching toward the chopping block at about the same rate. Still, optimism reigned — at least, it did until the global economy fell apart — and so Saturn Dealers got a rebadged version of the Solstice to sell: the Sky. Available for just the 2007 through 2010 model years, slightly more than 34,000 Skies rolled out of showrooms before the doors were nailed shut. Here's one of those rare cars, found in a Denver-area self-service yard a few weeks ago. I've found a handful of discarded Solstices in car graveyards during the past few years, mostly with crash damage. This Sky endured a medium-hard impact in the right front corner, which sent it to this place. The 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter Ecotec still resides under the battered hood. The Sky Redline version had a turbocharged engine rated at 260 horses; we can assume that such an engine would be yanked and purchased by the first junkyard shopper that realized what it was. The base transmission in the Sky was an Aisin five-speed manual, but this car has the optional five-speed automatic.  The Sky had its own nose and some different badging, but otherwise didn't differ much from the Solstice.  For the South Korean market, the Sky got Daewoo G2X badges and was advertised as the ideal vehicle for high-speed chases through Seoul traffic. The same car went to Europe as the Opel GT. Sadly, GM ran out of money to make right-hand-drive Skies, so we never got to witness Holden or Vauxhall versions. Here's Bob Lutz describing the new Sky. Lutz really hated car names molded into plastic bumper covers, so he takes great care here to describe the genuine glued-on emblems. Related Video:

Junkyard Gem: 2006 Pontiac Solstice

Wed, Sep 4 2019

The debut of the Pontiac Solstice, back in 2005 for the 2006 model year, stirred up much excitement in the automotive world. Sales were brisk at first, and then they weren't so great… and then Pontiac itself went under The General's cost-cutting axe. One thing I have learned during my junkyard travels is that even sought-after sports cars eventually reach a point at which they start showing up in the big self-service junkyards. For example, the BMW Z3 began appearing in such yards about five years ago, along with the Audi TT. While the Honda S2000 still appears to be exempt from this process, today's Junkyard Gem shows that the time has now come for the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky. The first Z3s and TTs I saw in the U-Wrench-type yards were crash victims, not worth fixing, and that's the case with this Solstice. In a few more years, I'll start seeing the occasional Solstice/Sky discarded due to general worn-outness. Someone grabbed all the undented front body parts and the transmission (these items, presumably, being valuable), but no junkyard shoppers have felt like pulling the non-turbo 2.0-liter Ecotec. The interior seems dirty, probably from exposure to the elements while sitting outdoors in this Colorado Springs wrecking yard, but not in bad shape otherwise. Perhaps the car's owner celebrated a return from Iraq with the purchase of a sporty new Pontiac, 13 years ago. These cars have an enthusiastic following, so I wasn't expecting to see a junked one so soon after production ceased. I felt the same way about the Chrysler Crossfire, however, and I found two of those last year. What's next, a 2002-2005 Thunderbird? This content is hosted by a third party. Baseball team to dress like Trans Am, complete with screaming chicken

Fri, Feb 8 2019

Come to think of it, the Screaming Chicken actually sounds like the name of a minor league baseball team. Well, it isn't, but the famous logo of the same name that graced the hood of the 1970s Pontiac Trans Am will at least be making it to a baseball uniform this summer. The Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will be rocking these special uniforms to honor the late Burt Reynolds and his film Smokey and the Bandit. By default, it will also be honoring the car the movie made famous: the 1977 Trans Am painted black with gold trim and, of course, the screaming chicken on the hood. This is a pretty good history of the emblem. So why the Lugnuts and Burt Reynolds? Although he claimed to be born in Georgia for much of his career, he admitted in a 2015 autobiography that he was in fact born in Lansing, Mich. After a few years, his family settled in Florida. Not exactly hometown hero stuff, but minor league baseball promotions have been made of more tenuous connections. The Burt Reynolds tribute night will be July 20, and if you want to get a screaming chicken jersey for yourself (I mean, wouldn't they be perfect for a cars and coffee?), the game-used jerseys will be auctioned off for charity after the game.
