1955 Olds Super 88 4dr Hardtop Loaded Runs Excellent on 2040-cars

Tucson, Arizona, United States

1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 4dr Holiday Hardtop. It's been a California car since new, with four previous owners (I have registrations going back over 30 years).

The car is loaded with almost every option except a/c, auto-tronic eye, and padded dash. The motor runs excellent. Fires right up, idles smooth/quiet despite needing a tune up. Transmission shifts through all gears up/down as is should, and the car drives well (around the block). Without plates, I did not want to go far.

It will need basic maintenance... tune-up, fluids, belts/hoses, brakes/tires, and a battery to be a driver. The normal stuff old cars need after sitting a while (1998). I have drained/cleaned the tank, blew out the fuel lines, and added 5 gallons of fresh fuel. The car does not smoke, and there are no strange noises. The car will also need paint, but imaging how nice the car would look painted the original colors, with a new set of wide white wall tires. Please don't ask if you can fly in, and drive it across country. The answer is not without doing the maintenance mentioned above..then maybe.

The car has never been hit, the body is straight and pretty solid (undercoated when new). All lights work including the brake lights, courtesy lights, turn signals..even the horn works. All accessories also work except the power antenna (but it makes noise like it wants to). The car was rescued from destruction by it's second owner in 1983 after the original owner passed away. He restored the car in the mid 1980's (including paint/interior, and rebuilding the original drivetrain). The odometer now reads 21K. I did find a registration from 1983 with 15K (assume it went over once)..

Accessories/Options: 4bbl, power steering, power brakes, power windows, wonderbar (w/foot switch), power antenna, rear speaker, hydramatic transmission, dash clock, tinted glass (all windows), back up lights, courtesy lights, parking brake warning light. Original colors are Twilight Blue/ Polar White (paint code S40-60).

Interior: Seats, dash, door panels, and head liner all look pretty good. Carpet still looks good too, but kick panels are shot. Anything chrome will need to be re-plated for show. Glove box will need a new liner. Steering wheel has stress cracks. The driver door glass has a small hole from vandalism (I have state farm claim documentation from 01/17/95). As a result the floor directly underneath that hole will need a small patch a few inches across (difficult to photograph). Windshield has a rock chip on the passenger side, but is not broken. Passenger door glass is cracked (same vandal both windows). The wheels on the car now are good for rollers. I have the original twilight blue rims which will go with the car.

That about describes everything.. I prefer to over describe, rather than answer under described questions. Email me any questions (not listed above) you may have before you bid. It's the perfect family car to get into the clasisc car scene with as it wont need much to be a really nice cruiser.

$500 PayPal deposit is required within 24 hours. Full payment is required within 7 days or the car will no longer be available (to you). Shipping is the buyers responsibility (I will assist your transporter with loading). Please ask all questions before bidding ends. Reserve is low, based on condition.

I can store the vehicle safely in my garage for up to two weeks after the auction, but not longer unless the car is exported. Please communicate your storage needs in advance, and I will gladly work with you..

Bidders with negative feedback will simply have their bids cancelled/deleted. Do not bid, then ask me how you became the high bidder. (that might sound crazy, but it happened).

Thanks for looking.

Paul.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
