Up for Auction is my 1983 Hurst Olds. This car is completely original except for a full Flowmaster exhaust system. Sounds really good by the way. Yes the pictures are correct...10,397 documented miles. This car has only been titled twice making me the second owner. I bought it from a collector car dealer who purchased it from another collector who purchased it from the original owner. But, it has only been titled twice. Once by the original owner and then by me. This car has every option offered in 1983 except a power antenna. It is equipped with power steering, power door locks, 6 way power drivers seat, tilt steering, remote drivers mirror, cruise control, intermittent wipers, rear window defrost, power trunk release, quartz clock and air conditioning. The A/C has been updated to R134. Blows cold but needs to be charged. I also have the original Goodyear Eagle GT tires. They are in perfect condition with 50% tread left on them. The original owner purchased a full size correct Hurst Olds wheel and had a new Eagle GT tire mounted on it. It has never been mounted on the car and is still brand new. Everything works as it should with the exception of the A/C. I will charge it for the purchaser if so desired. I did charge it a couple of years ago but it has been in storage since 2011 and does need it again.

The car runs and drives perfect. The glass tops do not leak...at least when I wash it. I do have the Glass Top covers that came with the car. The Body by Fisher logo is embossed in both covers. I realized at the time of listing that I didn't take any pictures of those. Will add those pictures. I have never driven it in rain. All weatherstripping is in good condition. There is a little wind noise going down the highway but that was pretty common for cars in the 80's. Absolutely no rust whatsoever, anywhere! The lacquer paint has the typical checking on part of the hood and on top of the front quarter panels. The roof behind the T-Tops is the same way. None of it is too bad but it can be seen if you are standing next to the car. And you need to be looking for it. Overall the paint is in excellent condition considering it is 30 years old.
The Oldsmobile Emblem on the drivers side front quarter panel is a security system. From what I have been able to find out about the car this was a dealer installed option. I have never been able to get any documents explaining if it was installed by Oldsmobile or by Hurst.
I also have the original window sticker, all the brochures for the car including the instruction manual for the Lightning Rod Shifters. Also forgot to get pictures of those but will add them to the listing.
Now for the reason I am selling it. I have owned it for 8 years and do not have time to enjoy it anymore. My interests have changed a bit. I am NOT selling the car because I need the money. I know what the car is worth and WILL NOT let it go for anything less. The reserve is set for what I want for the car. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! I will try to answer any questions every evening. I do not have time during the day to look at any emails or messages. You are welcome and encouraged to inspect the car prior to bidding but this needs to be arranged with me because the car is in storage and I will have to make arrangements to get to it. Thanks for looking and Happy Bidding!

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
