2002 Mini Cooper S Hatchback 2-door 1.6l on 2040-cars
Springfield, Ohio, United States
Up for auction is my 2002 MINI Cooper S. I have owned the car since 2006. Very low miles for a 12 year old car, 96500. Body and interior are in good condition, drivers seat is showing wear as seen in pictures. Exterior is clean and straight. No damage or dents. There are two spots above the rear license plate wear the paint is starting to bubble from rust.
Power windows, locks, AC, CD Player, all work perfectly. 6 speed manual transmission. Traction control. Has factory installed driving lights. ALTA cold air intake. One of the nicest first year MINIs you are likely to find, there are a couple things that will require attention though. Currently the muffler is off. Support bracket rusted through and the muffler came off. This was about a year ago, I kindof like the sound of it now so I haven't gotten around to fixing it. Still have the muffler, just needs reattached. Also, I just had the oil changed and the shop indicated that they spilled roughly half a quart of oil, I cleaned up most of it, but probably not all. Doesn't effect anything other than having extraneous oil. They also indicated that I may have a small oil leak from the crank position sensor. Apparently this is a common oil leak area for the R53. I had not noticed any oil leaking and they were not certain as they had spilled oil and could not be sure if it was from the spill or an actual leak, but just want to make the buyer aware that it may need to be looked at. Oh, and the white vinyl stripes on the bonnet have cracks from age. Car drives and handles incredibly well. Clear title, never been wrecked to my knowledge. Will make someone a wonderful car. I have had her for 8 years and just don't drive much anymore. Time for someone else to enjoy her! Any questions, please feel free to ask. Car is for sale locally as well, so I reserve the right to end auction in the event of a local sale. Car can be inspected, just let me know when is convenient. Thanks and happy bidding! |

2013 Mini John Cooper Works GP will start at $39,950*
Thu, 25 Oct 2012Get your wallets ready, folks. The 2013 Mini John Cooper Works GP arrives this fall, and we've now learned that the cost of entry for the potent little hatchback is $39,950, (*) including $700 for destination.
Aside from an adorably tough appearance, that just-under-$40,000 price tag gets you a whole host of performance goodies, including a turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for 218 horsepower and as much as 207 pound-feet of torque. No, that isn't any more oomph than what you get in the standard JCW Hardtop, but there's a whole lot more to the GP kit. For starters, there's a fully adjustable coilover suspension, not to mention a reduction in overall weight - at 2,558 pounds, the GP is 121 pounds lighter than a normal John Cooper Works Hardtop.
A Mini spokesperson confirmed to Autoblog that the JCW GP can only be purchased one way, and will be offered as an option package on the standard John Cooper Works Hardtop. Its starting price represents a $5,150 increase over a standard JCW model, and is the most expensive model in the Mini range (the next being the $35,550 John Cooper Works Countryman).
Mini attempts first-ever backflip in a car
Fri, 04 Jan 2013Not too long ago, the idea of doing a backflip seemed almost impossible on two wheels let alone four, but now the stunt is routinely performed using everything from dirtbikes to monster trucks. Now Mini is getting into the game by attempting to perform a backflip with French stuntman Guerlain Chicherit behind the wheel of a highly modified Countryman, which it claims is the first-ever attempt at doing so with a car.
Another unique element of the jump that Mini is claiming is in regards to the ramp. Past automotive backflips, including Rhys Millen's 2009 jump to ring in the New Year, have used special ramps that help rotate the car, but the ramp Chicherit uses is "unassisted" and the backflip is attempted using only "a gas pedal and a prayer" according to a Mini spokesman for the event.
The video posted below is only a teaser showing the car launch up into the air, but while we have to wait until February 10 to see the final result, it sounds like the landing was a success. According to the Chicherit's Facebook page, practice for the stunt took 18 months of work with "lots of crashes."
Mini John Cooper Works Concept heading wide-eyed into production
Mon, 13 Jan 2014We now know that Mini will offer a stupendous number of total models over the next few years, so it's fair to assume that most of the brand's concept cars have series production written all over them. So, a 'concept' like this new John Cooper Works Mini is more or less a mortal lock to hit showrooms in very similar trim.
That's probably a good thing for future JCW owners, as this Mini looks decidedly better than the standard car that debuted in Los Angeles late last year. Something about the bigger grille, lowered front fascia and pumped up wheel arches make the car more visually compelling than the weird-nosed 2014 Mini Hardtop. (At least to this author.)
