1968 Mercury Cougar American Classic. This two door classic has an all original 302 engine 4 speed automatic, power steering, and power brakes. The 1968 Mercury Cougar was Cougar at its best. Its purpose was nothing short of serious..All original parts(engine, transmission, interior, etc..). This car has been sitting covered for the past 20++++++ years. As the images show everything on the car is original and for her age in DIVINE condition. She will fit fine in a collectors collection after she receives a little attention.Current Condition.Car is in immaculate condition for the year. No fading to the seats.Emblems currently getting re-chromed as well as are the bumpers. Car is currently posted locally so if sold before auction ends I will end the auction early. ***UPDATE 12/10/2013*** Car is currently not running. Had the master mechanics looking at it as it seems we need to replace the Fly wheel in the transmission. Motor fires up but will have more up dates on the running condition come Sunday. No Leaks from the car all original motor/transmission. Also have an extra transmission that fits the car as a spear also included in the sale. Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes
Thu, 10 May 2012When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease
Wed, 29 Jan 2014Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
Report: Lincoln getting all of Mercury's ad dollars
Mon, 03 Jan 2011Now that the curtain has closed on Mercury, Ford Motor Company will redirect all of its marketing dollars for the oft-overlooked brand to the Blue Oval's luxury outpost, Lincoln. In speaking to Automotive News, the chairman of the Lincoln National Dealer Council, Bob Tasca, Jr., said, "You'll see a lot stronger presence in the advertising of Lincoln in 2011."
Lincoln spokesperson Christian Bokich reminded AN that the automaker is "preparing the way for seven new or significantly refreshed vehicles" that will be launched over the next four years, and the largest ad blitz in 2011 will focus on the refreshed MKX crossover, as well as the MKZ sedan and its hybrid counterpart. Following that, Lincoln has plans to launch a completely overhauled version of its Navigator SUV, an all-new C-segment vehicle and the overhauled 2013 MKZ, which Tasca says will be "strikingly different from its Ford Fusion sibling."
