Honda, Hyundai top car residual value / depreciation awards list

J.D. Power announced its 2022 U.S. ALG Residual Value awards Thursday, with Honda and Hyundai topping the charts at three models apiece in the industry-standard study. The term "residual" is an industry projection of how well a car will hold its resale value three years from the original purchase date – a key metric in calculating lease costs and projecting new-car depreciation.  Award winners included several enthusiast-friendly options, including the BMW 2 Series, Dodge Charger, Subaru WRX, Mercedes-AMG GT and Toyota Tacoma. Even the Ford Bronco was recognized, beating out the Jeep Wrangler in the Off-Road Utility segment. That may seem odd given the car's issue-plagued launch, but scarcity apparently trumps quality control issues over the longer term. Here's a scrolling complete list of winners broken down by segment: “Accurately forecasting residual values in the auto industry is a key factor in assessing an estimated $225 billion lease portfolio of vehicles in the United States,” said ALG VP Eric Lyman in the company's announcement. "The brands and vehicle models that rise to the top demonstrate that they score well across the award programÂ’s criteria, including manufacturersÂ’ superior design and quality." ALG looks at several factors to determine future value, which is especially tricky with new models. For 2022, 16 different brands were recognized across 29 segments. Behind Honda and Hyundai, Audi, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover and Subaru all managed to chart with two different models. "Eligibility for a brand award requires a manufacturer to have model entries in at least four different segments. Rare Isdera Imperator 108i flexes its considerable muscles

The Isdera Imperator 108i is a remarkably rare supercar from the late 80s and early 90s. Born of a Mercedes-Benz concept car, it's powered by a range of AMG-developed V8s, with five to six liters of displacement, depending on the engine. The example shown here, lapping the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, features the most potent 6.0-liter V8 available. And rather than just being driven about on a perfectly clean racing line, it's freaking power sliding!
Yes, there's something eternally childlike about a wedge-shaped supercar from our formative years being flung about a Belgian racetrack. Adding to the appeal is the Imperator's stumpy, periscopic rear mirror, sticking out of the roof. Even after being out of production for 20 years, this is still a wild, wild car and we'd happily snap up the opportunity pilot one of the 36 Isderas that were built. 2017 Mercedes SL leaks online ahead of LA debut

Mercedes-Benz already teased the refreshed face for the SL-Class with a shadowy photo ahead of a big debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, but a newly leaked gallery now sheds light on the upgraded luxury convertible. The 32 photos provide a look at several models of the droptop, and you can check them all out in the gallery above. As the teaser suggests, the new front end adapts elements from the AMG GT like narrower, arched headlights that include the LED running lights. Mercedes' designers also resculpt the hood and fit a front bumper with an additional opening between the grille and lower air dam. The rear incorporates tweaked taillights and a bumper that features small vents just behind the wheels. There appears to be some updated trim inside like a different steering wheel and infotainment improvements. While these images provide a complete look at the updated design, the technical details about the refreshed SL-Class are still a mystery. According to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, some models reportedly receive a nine-speed automatic, the Dynamic Select system to tweak the drive, and Active Body Control to lean into corners. Upgraded brakes are also allegedly on the AMG models. All of these improvements seem plausible, and we might see some engine adjustments too. We get to learn about any more changes very soon at next week's LA Auto Show.
