1999 Mercedes-benz Sl500 Base Convertible 2-door 5.0l - Low Reserve on 2040-cars

Up for sale is a classic example of Mercedes Benz's R129 model. The overall exterior of the car is in very good condition with only one small chip on the hood and a scratch on the right front fender. There are no door dings on either of the sides and the bumper has no scratches. The paint has no signs of oxidation and looks as good in person as it does in pictures. The left front turn signal's bottom bracket is broken but very hard to notice unless you are up close and the light (turn signal) works just fine so I haven't replaced it. The left side mirror is faded and the rear view mirror's plastic frame is cracked but both still work and are not noticeable.
Mechanically the car is a great driver. Both the engine and transmission have no leaks and operate smoothly - No abrupt transmission shifts or clanking engine valves. A/C works very well and has no problem cooling the car despite 95+ Summer days. I replaced the alternator less than a week ago and all electronics work with the exception of the A/C fan direction gauge. Although it will blow A/C through the front vents, the diagram arrow will not appear. All aspects of the convertible work great - hard top, soft top, and bow (roll bar) extension. I've noticed a small leak of hydraulic fluid only after operating the convertible but that's to be expected on 15 yr old car. Unlike most convertible tops, this one shows no signs of the canvas fading or rear window blemishing from excessive sun exposure. See video of this car's soft top in action - http://youtu.be/vOPjDf-5hF4 All four tires are in good condition with roughly 75% tread life left on the rears and 60% left on the fronts. This is your chance to own a 90k + car at a fraction of the cost! Good luck bidding!! |

On Location at the Portimao circuit in Portugal with Mercedes
Tue, Apr 28 2015Portugal is a beautiful country, full of friendly people, historic cities, stunning coastline and, of course, vineyards. What brought us to Mainland Europe's westernmost country, though, was the high-speed promise of the Algarve International Circuit in Portimao. Mercedes-AMG was kind enough to host the international press launch of its standard-setting C63 and C63 S sedans at the Portuguese racing circuit, and we came away impressed, both with the car and with the track. It's tough work, but somebody's got to do it... Join Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski in Portimao above to learn more about the race track and the country in which it resides, and if you want to see what the circuit looks like from behind the wheel, we suggest you watch the video below. Recharge Wrap-up: new Gigafactory drone video, Mercedes valet
Wed, Jun 10 2015A new, Tesla-approved drone video shows the progress of the Gigafactory. Recently, a video surfaced showing what Elon Musk said was just the "pilot plant," which is only a quarter of the size of the final planned Gigafactory. This new video not only shows the structure, but also the site surrounding it. We see more steel beams waiting to be erected, suggesting that the footprint of the finished building will be even more massive than that of the current standing structure. And if what Musk says is accurate, we've got a lot more to look forward to. Have a look in the video above, and read more at Teslarati. Tesla is paying hackers to find bugs in its website and products. In a posting on Bugcrowd, the electric automaker calls on "security researchers" to find vulnerabilities in the site itself, any domains owned by Tesla, any Tesla apps as well as Tesla hardware owned by the hacker like a Model S or the Powerwall. In exchange for the hackers' service, Tesla is offering rewards ranging from $25 to $1,000 for reported vulnerabilities. Tesla also promises not to sic the law enforcement on hackers who step forward to help, as long as they follow the rules. Read more at Teslarati. Daimler and Bosch are working on automated parking for Mercedes-Benz. In a properly equipped parking garage, the car would find an empty space and park by itself, and return to the driver when called upon. The groups are starting a pilot project for the autonomous valet feature with carsharing service Car2go, where it works the other way around. Customers will be able to call a car to a pick-up zone using a mobile app. When finished, the customer leaves the car in the drop-off zone, and the car takes care of the rest on its own. "Fully automated parking will be ready for mass-production before fully automated driving," says Bosch's Dr. Dirk Hoheisel. "Low driving speeds and the information from the car park infrastructure enable a fast implementation." Read more in the press release from Daimler. Volta has raised $7.5 million in funding to expand its free EV charging network. To offer free charging, Volta's chargers essentially perform double duty as billboards for what Volta calls "companies with a vested interest in the community." "Early Internet pioneers like Google became industry titans by first offering free consumer services online paid for by companies that advertised on their platforms," says Volta CEO Scott Mercer.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door and Fiat 124 Spider Abarth | Autoblog Podcast #596
Fri, Sep 27 2019In this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor, Green, John Beltz Snyder and Associate Editor Joel Stocksdale. This week, they focus on the cars they're driving, starting with the hardcore, four-door Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S. Then they move on to the aging Lexus GX 460 and the plucky Fiat 124 Spider Abarth. They discuss the practical-yet-luxurious Lincoln Nautilus, as well as the state of Lincoln as a whole (did you hear it just got a new design boss?). Finally, they help pick a modern vehicle for someone with a hankering for the look of the classic Ford Bronco.
