2013 Mercedes-benz Glk-class Glk350 4matic on 2040-cars
Gray, Louisiana, United States
General models come in 4MATIC 4-wheel drive, and include a 302-horsepower, direct-injection 3.5L V6 and 7-speed automatic transmission. According to Mercedes, 0-to-60 mph comes in 6.5 seconds, and the powertrain delivers 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway on 4MATIC models. The GLK-Class is intended primarily for on-road duty, with a 4-wheel independent suspension thats tuned for a sporty feel on the road. But if called upon, it does have the ground clearance and skid plates for modest off-roading, as well as sure-footed all-weather driving. The 4MATIC system reverts to sending 55 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels under normal conditions and works with the stability control system to help maintain traction and stability. The cabin of the GLK-Class was designed to provide a high level of adjustability for the driver, with a comfortable position possible for those 6-feet or taller. In back, head restraints can be adjusted for height and tilt and legroom and headroom are adequate for adults. The back seats can be folded forward to increase the cargo area from 23.3 cubic feet up to 54.7 cubic feet and a total of nearly 66 inches of length, for large items. The cargo area also includes coat hooks, bag hooks, a light and an extra power outlet. With an overall length of just 178 inches and an upright seating position, the GLK-Class is very maneuverable in city driving and easy to park thanks to short overhangs and compact design. And despite its sharp features, the GLK-Class has the best aerodynamics among SUVs, according to Mercedes-Benz, which helps reduce wind noise at highway speeds. Standard features on the GLK-Class include LED running lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, power front seats, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, an 8-speaker MP3-compatible CD sound system with weather band, an auxiliary input and 19-inch alloy wheels, though flashier 20-inch seven-spoke wheels are available. Real Sienna Pine wood trim is also included.

Mercedes considering convertible SUV
Mon, Jun 22 2015Mercedes has been focusing a lot of attention lately on revitalizing and expanding its crossover and SUV lineup. So what's next for high-riding Benzes? It could be a convertible. According to Daimler's sport-ute and sports car chief Wolf-Dieter Kurz, the company is closely considering a drop-top SUV of some sort. "We will find a market," Kurz told the Australian website CarAdvice. The trouble is that "the convertible is a very slim niche in terms of the SUV portfolio." The biggest problem could be China, where luxury SUVs remain hugely popular – but where convertibles, by and large, are not. "There are lots of discussions," said Kurz, "but we didn't have any decision yet." The last time Mercedes offered a convertible SUV was with the short-wheelbase version of the Gelandewagen, pictured above. It was available (in some markets anyway) for 34 long years as part of the G-Class lineup, but was discontinued in 2013. That left the Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Discovery as the only convertible SUVs to speak of currently available. Nissan tried its hand with the Murano CrossCabriolet, but that was phased out as well, while Land Rover prepares to take another stab at it with the upcoming Evoque convertible. It'd be interesting to see what approach Mercedes might take, and where it would position the model. Related Video:
Mercedes may not be done with R-Class after all
Fri, Jun 19 2015The idea of blending a three-row SUV and a minivan into a luxury model like the Mercedes-Benz R-Class still seems wonderfully absurd, particularly when you consider that there was an AMG version of that German people-mover. Apparently, though, one of the brand's execs doesn't believe the concept behind the R-Class is all that bizarre. In fact, he thinks it could be time to try again. Wolf-Dieter Kurz, Mercedes' vice president in charge of SUVs and sports cars, believes that crossovers could be a major driver of product variants in the future due to their popularity. There are a lot of design possibilities to explore in the segment, in his opinion. "There was already one that we had in the portfolio – maybe we were too early – which was the R-Class, which we are still selling in China. It's doing good, with 12,000 to 14,000 units per year," Kurz said during the launch of the GLE and GLE Coupe, according to CarAdvice. Under a recent deal, the quirky model is made by AM General and exported out of the US. Kurz even suggested the exact niche that the new model might fill. "So let's say these more, let's say, on-road based but still very roomy, but not station wagon, is definitely an interesting segment also in the future," he said, according to CarAdvice. That almost sounds like a blend of wagon and SUV in a move not too dissimilar from the current Subaru Outback or the old R-Class. One hurdle for any future model reviving the concept of the R-Class is that the company is already bursting with CUVs. Every size is practically already filled with the GLA, GLC, GLE, and forthcoming GLS, plus Coupe variants for some of them.
Mercedes pickup could have Nissan DNA
Fri, Apr 3 2015Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance are already close partners. Now it seems that the upcoming Mercedes-Benz midsize pickup might have a little Nissan DNA in it, too. Or maybe not, depending on how you interpret comments by Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. "I don't want anybody to think that because they announced a pickup truck, they have to make it with us. Not at all," Ghosn said at the New York Auto Show, according to Automotive News. "They are completely free to do it by themselves, to do it with somebody else, etc., and also, or to do it with us." The Mercedes Vans division is responsible for the truck's development, and the pickup is aimed at the popular global midsize segment against vehicles like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. There's no mention of any plans for the model in North America. Instead, Mercedes wants to focus on Latin America, South Africa, Australia and Europe for a launch slated before 2020. Ghosn was quite clear there was no decision either way as of yet. "Is this something that can eventually be on the table? I told you, everything is on the table between us," he said, according to Automotive News. If the two companies do decide to collaborate on a midsize truck, the timing would seem perfect. Nissan completed development of its NP300 Navara in 2014, and the automaker has been at work at least evaluating powertrains for the next Frontier possibly for 2019. Related Video:
