For sale is a 1985 Mercedes Gelandewagen  280ge. This is not my personal vehicle I am selling it for someone. The current owner purchased this vehicle from an off road guiding company in Vermont where the vehicle proved its off road prowess on a regular basis. The vehicle was purchased having a transmission problem, so the transmission was removed, repaired and reinstalled. The current owner now has other projects that need his attention so he has opted to sell the Gwagen, it is ready for the next owner to drive and enjoy it.

What makes the G wagen a top flight expedition vehicle is the fact that every component on it is built with durability in mind. It has solid axles with mechanical locking differentials both front and rear, the ride is surprising comfortable with its coil sprung suspension. It has a mechanically fuel injected 2.8 liter 6 cylinder gasoline engine and 4 speed automatic transmission. The transfer case allows you to shift between high and low range on the fly without stopping, a huge asset in certain off road situations and something very few other vehicles can do. It has an ultra stong fully boxed frame and of course that iconic utilitarian body style.

  Drivetrain
The motor starts right up and runs great and the automatic 4 speed transmission shifts as it should. The engine has a slight oil leak from the valve cover gasket and a slight coolant leak that may be coming from the water pump gasket. The truck drives, steers and stops great there are no obvious faults with the drivetrain. The rear brakes and drums were recently replaced. The truck is equipped with AC although the drive belt is currently missing so it is not working. The exhaust appears to have been recently replaced and is in great shape. The tires are 33/10.50-15 BF Goodridge mud terrains and have about 75% tread remaining. The wheels are the original Mercedes aluminum wheels, they do have some scrapes and the spare wheel has 2 bends in it.

    Body and chassis
The body is in good overall condition. It has been repainted once, there is some rust on the rear quarter panels, rocker panels and rear door jamb. The door bottoms and floors are in good shape with no obvious rust. The body also has some dents on the 2nd row passenger side door and some other minor dings and scrapes throughout the body. The body gaps and fit and finish is excellent and the doors close with a solid thump unlike most other modern vehicles. The frame is in great shape the only obvious rust is on the rear bump stop platforms. The suspension is in great shape and the truck rides great, all rubber bushings appear serviceable. The winch is not currently working it may need a solenoid or new controller.

      Interior
The interior is in good shape, although there are two small tears on the driver seat and a few small missing trim pieces on the door panels. The front seats are exceptionally comfortable and ergonomically designed. There are fold down jump seats in the back to allow for 4 additional passengers giving the truck seating for 9. The simple vinyl upholstery and rubber floor mats reflects the trucks utilitarian no nonsense design. Electrically everything works as it should including the aftermarket cd player.

Although this G wagen is not the fastest vehicle on the road it is an excellent platform to take you just about anywhere on the continent you want to go.

Mercedes rules out hybrid supercar, promises SLS successor

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The recent Geneva Motor Show was a festival of hypercars, with the presence of not one, but three over-the-top debuts: the Lamborghini Veneno, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LeFerrari. The latter two have hitched their carbon fiber bumpers to the electrification bandwagon by using hybrid-electric powertrains not entirely unlike the propulsion systems we've come to know in cars like the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt. Does that mean the flow of electrons up the four-wheeled food chain will eventually consume our hallowed supercars? Not if AMG has anything to say about it.
AMG Director of Vehicle Development Tobias Moers recently confirmed that not only will there be a successor to the Mercedes-Benz performance division's SLS AMG, he notes that its internal combustion engine will most definitely not be sharing living quarters with an electric drivetrain. Instead, AMG plans to focus on further pushing the power and efficiency envelope of the internal combustion engine and advancing the use of lightweight materials to achieve their goals. The first example of this effort can be seen in the new SLS AMG Black Series that incorporates many weight-saving techniques to shed some 154 pounds from the SLS AMG GT (above), which itself is lighter than the standard SLS AMG.
Furthermore, Moers remarks that his company is happy to leave the hypercar segment to companies like Ferrari and McLaren. He admits that, "Ferrari in the hyper-car segment is still a different brand than AMG. We have to be honest..." So rather than taking the SLS further upmarket to do battle with bulls and stallions, Moers hinted that the next-generation SLS may be joined by another performance model that fits neatly between itself and the C63 AMG.

Which electric cars can charge at a Tesla Supercharger?

Sun, Jul 9 2023

The difference between Tesla charging and non-Tesla charging. Electrify America; Tesla Tesla's advantage has long been its charging technology and Supercharger network. Now, more and more automakers are switching to Tesla's charging tech. But there are a few things non-Tesla drivers need to know about charging at a Tesla station. A lot has hit the news cycle in recent months with regard to electric car drivers and where they can and can't plug in. The key factor in all of that? Whether automakers switched to Tesla's charging standard. More car companies are shifting to Tesla's charging tech in the hopes of boosting their customers' confidence in going electric.  Here's what it boils down to: If you currently drive a Tesla, you can keep charging at Tesla charging locations, which use the company's North American Charging Standard (NACS), which has long served it well. The chargers are thinner, more lightweight and easier to wrangle than other brands.  If you currently drive a non-Tesla EV, you have to charge at a non-Tesla charging station like that of Electrify America or EVgo — which use the Combined Charging System (CCS) — unless you stumble upon a Tesla charger already equipped with the Magic Dock adapter. For years, CCS tech dominated EVs from everyone but Tesla.  Starting next year, if you drive a non-Tesla EV (from the automakers that have announced they'll make the switch), you'll be able to charge at all Supercharger locations with an adapter. And by 2025, EVs from some automakers won't even need an adaptor.  Here's how to charge up, depending on which EV you have:  Ford 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Tim Levin/Insider Ford was the earliest traditional automaker to team up with Tesla for its charging tech. Current Ford EV owners — those driving a Ford electric vehicle already fitted with a CCS port — will be able to use a Tesla-developed adapter to access Tesla Superchargers starting in the spring. That means that, if you own a Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning, you will need the adapter in order to use a Tesla station come 2024. But Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS port starting in 2025 — eliminating the need for any adapter. Owners of new Ford EVs will be able to pull into a Supercharger station and juice up, no problem. General Motors Cadillac Lyriq. Cadillac GM will also allow its EV drivers to plug into Tesla stations.

Mercedes-Maybach GLS prototype caught testing with its big new grille

Tue, Oct 8 2019

The new Mercedes-Benz GLS is a massive tech fortress on wheels, so the Maybach GLS is bound to be a massive tech castle. Last we heard from the gigantic Benz SUV was that it was going to be built at Mercedes’ Alabama plant. With a starting price expected to be around $200,000, itÂ’ll probably be the most expensive vehicle produced in the U.S. These spy shots give us an idea of what weÂ’re going to be looking at when the production SUV is finally revealed. Our first hint that this prototype is a Maybach is the grille. It looks suspiciously similar to the grille on the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Concept with all the vertical slats running down the big maw. Minimal camouflage is disguising the exterior for the most part, but we imagine Mercedes is hiding any of the gaudier parts of the car itÂ’d like to save for a big reveal. The exhaust outlets sure do look a bit different than the regular GLS, but the outside is generally the same as what we see today. As for the interior, thatÂ’s where most of the magic is expected to happen. A significantly overhauled look is inevitable, with the focus on even more luxurious materials than the most expensive norm-core GLS. A rear seat that's fit for a king or two is likely, along with Maybach-exclusive tech to boot. For now, we canÂ’t see in the heavily camouflaged and taped-off windows, leaving us to wonder about the luxury within. This Mercedes-Maybach is expected to compete with other massively expensive SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga or a fully decked-out Range Rover.  Everything thatÂ’s optional on the GLS should come as standard here, including the trick E-Active Body Control suspension. Look for a reveal coming in the not-so-distant future, as this prototype doesnÂ’t look terribly far from production to us.
