This is a very serviceable E320 Wagon. I am trying my best to give an honest appraisal of the car so that a prospective buyer knows exactly what he or she is buying.   The engine runs strong, transmission recently rebuilt, there was a minor oil leak but it has subsided . The valve cover gasket was changed. Non- working items are high beams ( i believe the stalk), automatic antenna (cable broke), Oil pressure gauge (possibly the sender - idiot light works ) A/C works but on a hot day in traffic is not the best, I believe due to the aux fans not switching on. An easily repairable defect. Cosmetically: body is straight numerous paint imperfections but looks decent , upholstery is good , a delamination on the drivers seat - very typical and not in need of immediate repair.  wood trim is not bad - a couple of small cracks on the console - typical. Tires are OK Pirellis with at least 60+% remaining. Front brakes and rotors just replaced. Front end is typical of a car with this mileage - possibly worn bushings, ball joints etc. steers straight ahead, does not pull . Ride is smooth and quiet. Does not sag in the rear.  Upper wiring harness changed.  Car has been reasonably well maintained. An "upgraded " sound system with sub woofer has been installed by previous owner - I will say it is an improvement over the original. The factory disk changer and amp is still located in the rear and possibly could be repaired etc if one desires orig equipment. Also a keyless entry was installed - works OK but not the best. . This would be a great car for someone who wants to drive the wheels off of a Mercedes or someone that would like to restore his vehicle to semi-showroom shape.

Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG formalize technical partnership

Thu, 19 Dec 2013

The development of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin has been a long time coming. The news dates back to 2008, and over the five years since was supposed to lead to a rejuvenation of both the Maybach and Lagonda brands. That program ultimately fell apart, but the tie-in was forged afresh in July when the two automakers signed a letter of intent over a renewed partnership. And now that partnership has been formalized.
In a deal just announced, Mercedes-AMG will build a new V8 engine for Aston Martin that will power a new generation of luxury GTs for the British marque, presumably to replace the 4.7-liter V8 in the Vantage. The relationship appears to be similar to the one already in place between AMG and Pagani, only in this case, will involve Daimler taking as much as a five-percent stake in Aston Martin and an observer seat on Aston's board.
The technical partnership is also set to lead to the supply of electric and electronic systems, and could incorporate "additional areas of cooperation in the future." Whether that will include a fresh attempt at reviving Lagonda remains to be seen, as does the future of Aston's long-serving, Ford-based 6.0-liter V12 engine. But for now you can read the full announcement below.

Maybach lost upwards of $500k on each vehicle sold

Wed, 08 Feb 2012

Daimler is shuttering Maybach in 2013 after seven years of production. In that time, the company's ultra-ultra-luxury arm managed to sell just 3,000 units, and CAR reports Daimler lost somewhere around $500,000 on each and every one of them.
Even with a ludicrous price tag of over $370,000 for an "entry" Maybach 57, the brand couldn't quite recoup the dizzying $1.33 billion Daimler poured into it since its (re)inception. Rumors ignited over a possible tie up with Aston Martin that would have resulted in a range of new and attractive models, but Daimler has instead decided to snuff out Maybach altogether.
We can hardly blame them.

Brabus 800 Roadster is a power-mad aristocrat

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

If we're being completely honest, we haven't exactly been in love with the aesthetics of the sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. It's mostly a front-end issue, with its glowering eagle-eye headlamps and upright, dinner-plate-sized Three-Pointed Star coming across to us as overwrought. That's particularly troublesome for a roadster whose history has of the most elegant designs of all time in its back catalog. Somehow, the new R231 generation's brash visuals seem more at home on this Brabus 800 Roadster to us.
That's probably because the high-dollar German tuner has turned up the wick on the SL's visuals even further, with carbon fiber bodywork, a more aggressive aero kit, matte hood scoop and complex two-finish wheels. It's all-the-way committed to its brashness, in other words - and justifiably so. Anything with 800 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque has earned the right to look however it wants, right?
Brabus started with the SL65 and its not-exactly-underpowered 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, and went to town, fitting their own turbocharger and intercooler system, along with a less-restrictive exhaust system with driver-selectable sound levels and new engine electronics. The result is a 3.7-second 0-62 mph time, an electronically limited top whack of 217 mph... and one seriously compromised toupée.
