Mercedes CLA facelift spotted in Germany

It's only been a couple of years since Mercedes launched the CLA-Class, but it appears the German automaker is already preparing mild revisions for the compact four-door. Spotted undergoing testing at the company's R&D center in Sindelfingen, Germany, this disguised prototype is likely packing many of the updates that were recently applied to the A-Class hatchback with which the CLA shares most of its underpinnings. As you can see, the front end is camouflaged to disguise the shape of a new grille, bumper, and headlights. Expect similar revisions to be applied to the back as well. Don't expect any drastic mechanical changes in most of the models, which will surely cut the svelte model's fuel consumption and carbon emissions incrementally. We can likely look forward to the arrival of the new AMG version that will hopefully pack the revised 2.0-liter turbo four that produces 381 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque in the updated Mercedes-AMG A45 – a not-insignificant boost of 36 hp and 18 lb-ft over the existing version. Mercedes won't pass up the opportunity to update the interior with new trim and equipment. That should mean a bigger infotainment screen, a new instrument cluster, and even more comfortable seats. Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet fetches record $1.4 million at auction

Alas, G-Wagen fans: The last available 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet has sold to a private Belgian buyer, with all proceeds to benefit the children's sports charity the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The price tag at the Zoute Sale at Bonhams was a record ˆ1.2 million, or about $1.4 million. We previously dubbed the luxury off-roader " the ultimate safari machine" for its super-extravagant features. Its soft top can be raised or lowered electronically, as can a glass partition to the driver's compartment (wouldn't be a Landaulet without that, now would it, Jeeves?). What's more, the two rear seats can be fully reclined, with leg rests extending from below, and with access to folding tables, 10-inch LCD screen and heated, cooled and illuminated (!) cup holders. As it has the number 650 in its name, however, the Landaulet also features a twin-turbocharged V12 that generates 630 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. Bringing up the G-Wagen part of the bargain is a four-wheel-drive system with front, center, and rear differential locks, that sends power to solid portal axles front and rear, which move the differential and drive axles above the wheel centers for additional ground clearance. The grandest G sold Friday in Brussels was reportedly straight from the factory and one of only 99 to be built. No G650 Landaulets were sold in the United States. The Bonhams Motoring Department's fifth annual Zoute Sale also saw the purchase of a 1968 Ferrari 365 GTC Coupe for ˆ805,000 euros ($945,000), the second most-valuable lot of the sale. Mercedes says it's tops in luxury sales for 2012, not BMW

It turns out that Mercedes-Benz North America has legitimate claim to being the top selling luxury nameplate in the US in 2012.
While sources such as Autodata had put BMW in the top spot, registration data from R.L. Polk shows that Mercedes customers registering new vehicles topped the Bavarian automaker in the most recent calendar year. Polk says Benz posted 274,123 registrations, compared with BMW's 268,498.
In terms of sales posted, BMW had bested Benz 281,460 to 274,134. But sales are recorded somewhat inconsistently from automaker to automaker. Some book the sales as soon as they are shipped from factory to dealer. There is perennial gamesmanship between the two German rivals, and the sales numbers suggest that BMW pushed out some extra sheetmetal to dealers in the last four weeks of the year.
