A RARE FIND- A documented, very well cared for, one-owner (until 2012) coupe. Featuring an excellent, rare color combination, and all original books and most records, tracking all repairs and mileage. Often these cars odometers break and milage 'disappears' until the owner gets around to fixing it, in this case, the records track correctly from original purchase, and document the replaced odoometer and reset milage- it is 100% accurate. This classic Coupe was the last year for the famous body style, and one of about 1250. The 1985 model year is considered superior to other years to due improvements in drivetrain- better shifting points and some engine adjustments in the final year. I have not seen many 1985 coupes in the gray metallic/palomino color- and it is truly a stunning combination.

The exterior: Excellent, original Anthracite Gray paint is deeply glossy and even the chrome and pinstriping is fantastic. All exterior trim peices and items are present and in good shape. Rubber seals beginning to dry but still function well. Glass great (one tiny chip in left edge of windshield). Antenna is original and works perfectly. There is a ding on the driver door chrome, and one an upper edge of the driver fender, both hard to notice. There is a spot of rust on the driver rear wheel well, underside, just at the 'point' where is meets the arc of the wheel well. Inside this area, there is no visible rust so this appears to be a surface problem that got under the original undercoating and has eaten away an inch. It could easily be repaired while leaving the paint intact elsewhere. On the passenger wheel well, on the inside of the arc at about 2 o clock, there is a small spot where pimples of rust are starting to come through the paint. Again, minor and surface. The doors rae fantastic, the underside is dry, oil and rust free.

The Interior: All original and in excellent shape. Dry and tight. No squeaks, closes like a bank vault. A 1.5 inch dash crack near the right side speaker. Glove box a little sticky on closing. All wood is great. Every light, switch, window, sunroof, knob, button all work as they should. Vacuum locks- even the seatbacks- work well and fast.  AC climate control works great- the temp and blower modulate correctly when the dial is adjusted.  The sun visors' lids are cracked and require careful handling- (this is an easy fix- replacement lids are available form the 126 series for $26 a pair.) headliner is perfect. Seats are well padded and not saggy or broken. Colors are still in great shape, indiciating a life of garaged storage. Everything is working- except the cruise control. I think the AC works as far as blowing cold, (orio owner assured me it was up to snuff) but I have only owned the car in winter.

Mechanics- and other stuff that breaks. EVERYTHING is great. No worries, no thumps, shifts, starts, stops, runs, drives, corners and handles terrifically. Transmission and engine in terrific shape with no leaks, and great shift feel (these transmissions can be clunky- this one is smooth and crisp). Exhaust, brakes, tires, oil changes, all serviced as needed. Excellent, top quality tires are almost new- excellent tread depth. Antenna is original and perfectly working. Every light, wire etc works and all appear as original- nothing hokey and no shortcuts taken.

History: This car was owned by a wealthy car fanatic who cared for it (documented, and consistent) like the prize it is. The servic e book documents regular oil changes and normal milage; there are repair records dating back to 1992. The original protect-o-plate and manuals are all there. That owner sold it a year ago to his good freind. After 6 months, the freind's wife did not like it so he decided to sell- and I got it from him in a direct purchase, about three months ago. I am a collector of these cars and have been looking for original paint, good color combo 1985 coupe (that is all I buy) for a very long time. In 2009, I sold my mint, 95K mile Pearl Black 85 coupe..began to miss it last year and started  a search for a similar minty coupe in a good color. This gray one was the best I found (finally!). In an amazing twist of good luck, the person I sold mine too, just called me last week,  to offer it back to me since they are moving to Germany. I jumped on the offer, and now have to sell this one- though, I admit, the gray/tan color combo is more appealing that my pearl black one! I feel this car can be driven across country, I welcome it to be inspected and driven and will answer all questions as fully as possble.

I have created a photobucket account with 54 pictures- saerch online for 'photobucket' and when you are there, look for user ID 'Njview' and click on the 300CD album (it should be the only one there and it is public so should be viewable easily). Good luck and happy bidding!

Update:I just noticed a small 1 (inch?) tear at the lower, outer edge of the driver's seat (M-B Tex upholstery, basically where your left kidney would be.

Mercedes spotted testing hardcore AMG GT at the 'Ring

Thu, Mar 26 2015

Mercedes has showcased its new AMG GT in both base and S trims, it's rolled out the GT3 racing version and the Formula One safety car. But we're only beginning to see the extent of the variants that the German automaker is expected to spin off of its new sportscar. And here is the latest. Spied undergoing testing at the Nurburgring is what appears to be an even more performance-focused version of the Mercedes-AMG GT. It seems to be packing an upgraded aero kit – complete with front splitter and rear wing – as well as larger rolling stock. You can bet there's an even more potent version underhood of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that's already producing over 500 hp in the existing model. Whether Affalterbach deems it worthy of the Black Series label or not is another question, but what's clear is that AMG is gunning for the Porsche 911 GT3 with the performance model you see here – however disguised it may be from our prying eyes. Race recap: 2015 British Grand Prix is a testament to timing

Mon, Jul 6 2015

In front of his home crowd, Lewis Hamilton actually had to work for pole position at the British Formula One Grand Prix. The World Champion couldn't get on top of the setup for his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on Friday, lapping behind teammate Nico Rosberg and the two Ferraris. Come Saturday, after a few alterations and a whole lot of wing to clamp down on understeer, Hamilton returned to his regular program at the front, taking pole position by just over a tenth of a second from his teammate. Williams, thought to be headed for another stretch in the weeds a few races ago, showed its best strength all year. The Grove team got both cars on the second row and in front of the Ferraris, Felipe Massa qualifying ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas, but they were eight and nine tenths behind the Mercedes'. Kimi Raikkonen out-qualified Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel for the second time this year, and only the first time in a straight-up battle with two healthy cars. But more than a second behind the two cars at the front, and with two nearly-impossible-to-pass Williams' in front, neither the Finn nor the German is happy with where they are. Daniil Kvyat claimed seventh, his side of the garage at Infiniti Red Bull Racing having got through the weekend to that point without a single complaint about their Renault power unit. Carlos Sainz, Jr. put a single Toro Rosso inside the top ten in eighth position, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg who did the same for Sahara Force India by slotting in ninth. The second Infiniti Red Bull driven by Daniel Ricciardo did have an unspecified engine complaint – his car kept "bleeding power" on the straights – but even so he managed to qualify tenth with his second-fastest lap. The stewards deleted his best lap because he ran three centimeters outside the track limits at Copse, an infraction that stung a few other drivers as well. Up in front, what would sting the Mercedes-AMG Petronas drivers the most was the start. That's when a dearth of grip struck both Hamilton and Rosberg, allowing Massa and Bottas to slide right up the middle between them and take the first two places. The leapfrogging was so surprising that it looked like the Mercedes drivers were giving the Williams drivers a head start. They diced through the first corners, Hamilton sliding past Bottas into second place halfway through the lap. And then the safety car reported for duty.

Race recap: 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix was the pits

Mon, Jul 25 2016

The Hungarian Grand Prix hasn't seen a race this calculated since 2012, when Lewis Hamilton – driving for McLaren – led from pole position to the checkered flag. We don't expect massive action from the Hungaroring, but Hamilton's first win for Mercedes in 2013, the thrilling wet mess in 2014, and Ferrari's surprising dominance in 2015 made us hope for more on-track commotion this year. Hungary denied us that. Hamilton parked his Mercedes-AMG Petronas in second on the grid but stole the lead through Turn 1 and never looked back. Teammate Nico Rosberg yo-yoed behind him in second place, getting into DRS range on a few occasions but never close enough to pass. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo kept the leading duo honest, but the Aussie couldn't put genuine fear into the German team and finished third. This is the third year in a row for Ricciardo on the Hungary podium. The pits provided our few scraps of excitement. During a stretch when Ricciardo managed to close on Rosberg, Mercedes told Hamilton to speed up. When Hamilton said he couldn't go faster, Mercedes said they'd pit second-place Rosberg first instead. Suddenly, Hamilton found the extra pace. Ricciardo pitted in early, hoping that fresh tires and fast laps could allow him to pass one or both Mercedes drivers when they pitted, but once Hamilton hit the throttle the Red Bull couldn't respond. Further down the lineup, Jenson Button came in on Lap 5 so McLaren could fix his brake pedal problem. The radio exchange before the stop included one forbidden instruction to Button, though, so the Englishman had to return to the pits for a drive-through penalty. Renault's Jolyon Palmer beat Force India's Nico Hulkenberg in a straight-up pit stop battle on Lap 40, but threw the good work away on Lap 49 with a spin on track that cost him three places. A pit wall miscommunication meant the Force India pit crew wasn't ready for Sergio Perez when the Mexican arrived for his second stop on Lap 43. And Daniel Kvyat's regrettable run at Toro Rosso continued, first with car issues, then a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Sebastian Vettel brought his Ferrari home fourth, sniffing Ricciardo's gearbox at the flag but unable to get around the Red Bull. Max Verstappen enacted a replay of the final stages of the Spanish Grand Prix, finishing fifth by holding Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen behind for 19 laps.
