1986 Mercedes Benz 300 SDL Turbo Diesel.

The Mercedes Benz is physically in EDGEWATER MARYLAND, in the greater Washington DC area. Please make a note of this. I am currently on business in Los Angeles CA and will arrange for having one of my business partners meet you in Edgewater MD with signed FLORIDA title in hand to exchange cash at purchase.

If you are into WVO Conversions (waste vegetable oil) this would be an ideal candidate. From researching this down in Fort Lauderdale Florida with a conversion company - this Benz has an ideal engine, and does not require the second tank for the WVO. This is the 6 cylinder 3 liter Turbo Diesel. Only made for 86 and 87. Rare. With the SDL stretched body. 4 door. This car is in very good shape, considering it's 27 years old. I've taken this car on over a dozen trips from Washington DC area to South Florida and back, and it runs strong, the turbo diesel is in excellent shape, and it gets an average of 34 mpg on trips.

The good. It has an Alpine Stereo CD 121 with 4 Rockford Fosgate Prime speakers.

Tires are new from January. Great tread.

Oil has been changed at 3000 mile intervals regularly.

New AC compressor and fresh charge. AC blows cold, and the climate control is functional.

Cruise Control operates. New alignment done with tire change. Mechanically, this Benz is very good.

From Florida, it has full tinted windows, and it is legal with this level of tint. Rear window has inside and outside tinting, as do both rear door windows, and front two doors are (again) legal tinting. Tinting was professional done from Tint World, of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

SilverStar halogen headlight bulbs, and has a lifetime K&N air filter installed.

The not so good. The sunroof does not open, and is sealed with silicone, and was like that when I purchased it (was told it was a bad cable?).

The vacuum operated power door locks all work, however, you need to lock or unlock using the passenger side key.

The drivers seat has a tear on the side bolster and is covered in duck tape (see pictures).

Drivers side power window needs assistance on going up or down on its last 3/4 inch of travel. Common problem with these Benz windows, and from the internet, easy fix, for someone with mechanical skills.

Front right headlight door has a crack from a stone kicked up that hit it, and is covered with clear lens tape (not the headlight - the headlight door, and you can find them on eBay for 20 dollars average).

Body wise, it does have a few small surface blotches, and paint is about average for a car of this age. No dents or dings. Body is in very very good shape. All in all, a very sound car.

For out of state buyers or in state buyers, the car is titled with a Florida title, so no worries on change over.

The Benz is also listed locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction earlier if the car sells here in the Edgewater, MD area. These cars are rare, and even though not in showroom condition by any means, this is a very dependable, strong running Benz. With some TLC, you'd have a great car, and with a WVO Conversion, and a restaurant willing to give you used fryer oil... Hmmmmm. Nice. LOL.

Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...

If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.

Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA gets official ahead of Shanghai

Mercedes-Benz has something special planned for the Shanghai Motor Show - a new CUV concept that we first saw when it leaked on the internet yesterday. The GLA Concept compact crossover will hit the show stand with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive, and likely previews a new production model that we've already spotted testing.
That's not news, but the laser-based headlamps with video-projecting capability certainly are. Mercedes-Benz says the array can project any image or video onto a screen, which is handy since there are a pair of HD cameras mounted to the roof rack. The cameras can be removed and taken with you on all sorts of adventures. The lamps also feature a visible cooling system comprised of a series of fans, and the system helps give the headlights their "sparkle" effect.
Step indoors and the GLA offers up the interior of a high-quality crossover, complete with contrasting leather and plenty of aluminum. The automaker says the cabin was inspired by saddle craftsmanship with "more than 65 feet of hand-stitched seams to hold the raw edges of the leather together."

BMW expects China to pass US as its top market in 2013

When you combine two billion citizens, 100 cities with more than a million inhabitants and an economy that's as unrestrained as Jim Cramer on an Adderall binge, China's explosive auto industry growth shouldn't be a huge surprise. Audi already lists the communist country as its largest market, while Mercedes-Benz is expecting it to be there in the next few years. Now, according to a report from Automotive News, BMW is expecting the People's Republic to overtake the United States in sales by the end of 2013.
We already discovered the extent that BMW is going to in establishing a dedicated Chinese stronghold, when we explored BMW's Shanghai-based DesignWorks studio ahead of April's Shanghai Motor Show. And while we argued that DesignWorks Shanghai hasn't really borne fruit, it isn't due to a lack of sales.
BMW China has seen a 16-percent jump in year-over-year sales, lead by a 28-percent gain in 5 Series sales. Part of BMW's growth strategy comes from an ever-expanding dealership network. Remember those 100 cities we mentioned with over one million people? According to Karsten Engel, CEO of BMW's Chinese operations, those 100-million-plus city dwellers don't have access to a premium dealership.
