There are some dings, scratches and normal age/use related wear on the body, however, it is still in very impressive condition. The interior shows very little wear and is in beautiful condition."

1985 Mercedes Benz 300D-T finished in Cabernet Red Metallic with Palomino MB Tex.  This car has had only two owners.  The second owner had purchased the car on 5-2-1986 pre-owned from Continental Mercedes of Fairfield, CT and had kept the car until her recent passing at 92 years old.  This car was the owner's pride and joy and it shows. The condition is beautiful both inside and out. It has always been garaged and faithfully maintained.  This is the last and best year of the W123 300D, one of the most durable cars Mercedes has ever produced.

The exterior of the car is in very good condition.  The paint holds a deep shine with no fading.  The paint is all original and the car has not been involved in any accidents.  I can see one spot of surface rust (pictured), about half the size of a half dollar.  It is the only rust I can see on the car.  The rockers and jack points are rust free.  The car was not used in the winter months after 1986.  There are some dings and scratches that you would expect to see on a car driven by an elderly owner, however, the hand full of imperfections do not take away from the dazzling condition of the car.  I will be happy to send close up photos of the most noticeable wear.  All glass, chrome and rubber trim are in very good condition and have no damage.  An additional antenna had been added to support a CB radio that had been installed by the original owner.  The wheels had been protected with dust shields so they have been well preserved against brake dust.

The interior of the car is in excellent condition.  The MB Tex upholstery is in near perfect condition.  There are no holes or tears and the deep color and texture is are strong as a result of having been garaged.  The driver's seat has had additional padding added as the owner was more comfortable with it firm rather than springy.  You cannot tell by looking at it and it could easily be removed.  The dash is in very good shape, I can see an extremely small crack (1/4 inch) from the corner of the passenger speaker cover.  The headliner sits perfectly with no sign of sag.  The plastic window trim on the doors shows extremely faint signs of shrink, if any.  The wood is in very good condition, holding deep and bright color and showing very few cracks in the finish.  This car has not been smoked in and has no strange odors.  The carpets are free from any noticeable dirt or stains as they have been covered by mats since new and show no fade.

Mechanically, the car is in excellent condition.  The engine is very powerful and the turbo pulls strong.  The transmission shifts smoothly.  The suspension and steering are tight.  There are no strange noises or rattles.  There are no stains on the garage floor underneath it.  All interior functions, with the exception of the rear passenger window, work as they should.  Power locks, cruise control, climate control, sunroof, lights etc. work as they should.  Heat is hot and A/C is cold.  Tires and brakes are very recent and have plenty of life left.  The car has an aftermarket alarm that had been installed when it was new.  I have the key to it and it operates as it should.  I have one key to the car, all manuals that came with it, data plate, and original window sticker.

These cars have a legendary reputation for their comfort, engineering, build quality and longevity.  This 300D is a very rare find being in excellent condition and having only 113k original miles.  Most of these cars that are left have close to 300k on them and show considerable wear.  This car has been very well preserved and is in very impressive condition.  I have tried to describe the car as thoroughly and accurately as possible.  If you have any further questions, would like specific photos or would like to see the car, please let me know.

Online Find of the Day: Lexus-engined Mercedes pickup is a vintage hybrid

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

You have to love someone who gets incredibly committed to a very weird idea. What you see for sale here is a right-hand drive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D in South Africa, but this old Mercedes is now converted into a pickup, complete with bed cover, and there's big secret under the hood, too.
The pickup conversion appears well done based on seller Sedgefield Classic Cars' photos. Even the tonneau cover fits well. You could almost believe that this Mercedes lived its life as a Chevrolet El Camino-like pickup from the very beginning.
However, the rear-quarters conversion might not be the weirdest thing about this Mercedes. The original diesel is gone from the engine bay in favor of a Lexus V8. It seems really odd to pop the hood and find a Japanese mill in this German car, but the photos make it look like a fairly well performed swap. So, bravo to the crazy thinking. According to the seller speaking to Autoblog by email, "as far as we can establish, this was done a few years ago, with all Lexus components."

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class caught totally undisguised

Mon, 18 Mar 2013

Based on the lightly camouflaged spy shots of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class we've seen lately, it hasn't taken a vivid imagination to picture what the next iteration of this big luxury sedan will look like. Even so, we now we have our first unobstructed views of the redesigned S-Class, codenamed W222, as it has just been caught out flaunting for some promo shots.
The first thing we notice about the new S-Class design is the disappearance of the last generation's flared wheel arches. Yet the new design adds even more character with bodyside creases similar to the CLS-Class and some elements reminiscent of 2007's F700 Concept, including the massive grille and vertical LED taillights. Other key details include a large panoramic roof and the narrow exhaust outlets, but the large LED-trimmed headlights and the aggressive front fascia are probably the biggest departure from the current design. With these spy shots, we also catch a blurry shot of the interior, but we've seen a practically uncovered look at the new S-Class' cabin back in January.
Overall, the next S-Class sports an expressive and premium new look, but as far as all-new designs go, it's quite conservative - a move no doubt fitting for these lean financial times.

Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.
