VIN # WDBAB93A6EF018500
Offered here is THE BEST example of a Mercedes 123 chassis model 300 Turbo Diesel 4 door Station Wagon that we have ever seen. It is a highly well maintained car that had a comprehensive restoration that included a whole host of new parts and improvements. It also is a rare color blue as ordered (from the factory). This car started with no rust and was repainted after minor body work. As you can see from the pictures, this car is extremely straight and solid. The car was obtained from the last owner in excellent condition and the restoration began with an extensive list of mechanical and aesthetic improvements. This car is not a show car but it looks pretty amazing. We have sold a number of these cars in the past and this is also, hands down, the best running, shifting, running and handling car we have ever represented. To drive this car is to buy this car!!
Some of the items that were fixed or replaced included-
2 New Michelin tires, 2 recent & low mileage radials- All refurbished
stock alloy wheels- New fuel and oil filters- Replaced water and fuel lines under hood as needed- Replaced most of the front end suspension and steering parts- Recent full service (oil change and etc.) New headlights and fogs- New grill, insert and Mercedes symbol- New headlight doors and side marker lamps- New front trim pieces- New wipers and arms- New front windshield-
This car has had a lot of work done to make it as amazing as it does! All the window trim was removed (the car was completely stripped of all trim, mirrors, bumpers, door handles and etc. prior to painting) and each piece was hand buffed and polished. In addition, the underside and the wheel wells were also either cleaned or repainted (as needed) and the underside of the car looks like the engine bay and the car exterior….mint!!
DETAILS- Mileage- 197,890 original miles (at the time of the photos, fall 2012) Color- Medium Blue non-Metallic Engine- 3.0 liter five cylinder fuel injected diesel 116 horsepower Transmission- four speed automatic Brakes- Dual circuit four wheel disc power assisted w/pad wear indicator. Suspension- Independent front and rear w/coil springs, diagonal swing axle, anti-roll control bar and hydraulic load leveling for the rear. . Other features- MB Tex vinyl interior with front bucket seats, Air Conditioning, Power steering, Power windows, Cruise control, Manual sunroof, Automatic electric antennae, AM/FM Stereo Radio with CD player (not working), real Zebrano wood trim, dual headlights with amber driving lights, chrome plated aluminum bumpers w. rubber strips, redone stock Mercedes alloy 14” wheels and new or recent performance rated Michelin radial tires, new heavy duty battery. Extensive mechanical improvements as listed!
Condition-
BODY- Excellent body and paint recently did (2013). The car was stripped down almost to bare metal, any small dents or defects repaired, the car was primered, wet sanded and blocked and then painted then wet sanded and buffed. The body and the paint are outstanding (as you car see from the pics).
TRIM- All chrome trim and window moldings are in excellent condition and most were polished and buffed. As previously listed it has a new front grill, insert and trim pieces, new Mercedes symbol and etc. It also has new headlight doors, new side marker lamps, an excellent front bumper, nice and rear bumpers (has a small spot of missing chrome) and many new rubber moldings, excellent mirrors and a new windshield and rear window trim. Many other trim pieces have been or replaced or reconditioned during the 2013 restoration
INTERIOR- Overall excellent condition- A few light cracks in the dash, no tears in the headliner or door panels, rear seat excellent with little discoloration, original driver and passengers seat are also excellent with only some mild discoloration. Most of gaskets are excellent; the rear seal may need replacement. This car is extremely comfortable to sit and the seats are firm and not collapsed (like most 123’s). Wood trim on dash is very good, to excellent. Excellent interior chrome and all switches and gauges are solid and crisp. All the carpets are in excellent condition with some mild discoloration in the back. There are a few small tears in the vinyl trim in the back of the wagon. .
ENGINE COMPARTMENT- The compartment is unusually clean (including the painted surfaces and decals). It has no evidence of old oil deposits, battery spray or discoloration. Engine and wiring are very clean and well maintained. (See pics). As previously mentioned, it has a new engine and it runs and sounds new (it is the most powerful and quiet 123 Turbo engine we have ever seen.
Other details- This car is like driving a new 123! The engine and trans are superb because they were always meticulously maintained and lightly driven. Because of the extensive work done, the suspension is exceptionally tight and accurate; the steering is solid and has no slack. The engine is super smooth and has great torque and acceleration and it has no problem getting up to (and exceeding if you not careful) posted highway speeds. This car runs and looks like a new car. If you were hoping for a beautiful wagon (that’s not a show car or trailer queen), than you have found it. This is incredibly economical and meant to be driven. It’s amazingly fun to drive and gets more than its fair share of looks. With the great suspension, steering and shocks, it handles like a station wagon sports car! Needless to say, between paint, parts, labor and the new engine, many thousands have been spent on this car ($3,500.00 paint and body, $2,900.00 in restoration, mechanical, trim and materials). The cost of this car was over $3,000.00 when we started. This was not a quick or a sloppy restoration and the new owner will still have some small details to improve to make this car pristine.
If you need a car for going to work or daily transportation, this spectacular car will do the job and look good going to car shows as well. This car has always been garaged kept and is currently kept under a car cover in a heated garage in Rockville, Md.
According to the owner, this car averages 31 mpg or more on the highway and 25 in the city. Its top speed is well over 90 mph and it cruises very comfortably at 70 mph.
If you are close to Rockville, Md. (and the D.C. area in general) then we encourage you to come see the car in person. As we said before, It is currently located in an inside parking garage under a cover and driven only occasionally. This is a 30 year old car and in most states it will qualify for very inexpensive antique or vintage vehicle tags. Insurance for this car (according to the current owner) is less than $120.00 per year (from Hagerty) and we estimate under current fuel prices that it costs about 16 cents a mile to operate. Good luck with your bidding and we are confident that you will not be disappointed with the condition or the mechanical soundness of this exceptional and classic Mercedes station wagon! |

Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating
Mon, Aug 6 2018Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.

Mercedes releases 6x6 G63 AMG specs and pics [w/video]
Fri, 15 Mar 2013Mercedes-Benz has finally dropped full details on its insane G63 AMG 6x6. The machine puts 544 horsepower to all six wheels thanks to a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. A seven-speed gearbox shuttles power to the ground via three sets of portal axles, which helps give this machine a full 15.75 inches of ground clearance. By comparison, the standard G63 AMG sits with just 8.27 inches of ground clearance. The extra lift allows this 6x6 to ford nearly 40 inches of water and run massive 37-inch tires. All told, there are five differential locks on this thing, all controlled by a special "locking logic" that provides the best traction possible for any given situation.
The controls offer up three stages of locking, which we can only assume range from JKLOL to OMGWTF. Right now, AMG says this monstrosity is only a show vehicle, but we imagine it wouldn't take much to convince the team to whip up one of your very own. Check out our full gallery and the press release below for all the nitty gritty. While you're down there, you can also check out the video on the machine one more time.
