Here is a real sleeper and quite a rare find. A 1970 Mercedes 300SEL. A 4 door luxury muscle car. First a little history on the car. This car was only produced between 1967-72. It featured a 6332cc fuel injected V8 engine producing 300 hp and 434 lbs torque. Weighs in at 3,800lbs which is impressively lite for a luxury sedan like this. With the 4 speed automatic trans and the huge 6.3L engine the car would reach 0-60 in 6.5 seconds with a quarter mile time of 14.5. Top speed of 130+ mph. This was the fastest 4 door sedan in 1970. Only 6,526 examples of this 300SEL were sold and only 1,839 made it to the U.S. The 300 SEL was also not a slacker when it came to handling. It featured power assisted ventilated brakes all around enabling repeated smooth short stops. The suspension is a self leveling air unit which can give an extra 2" ground clearance on demand. It also has unequal a-arms with an anti-roll bar up front and swing axles with trailing arm out back. What can i say? Them Germans know engineering.

Mercedes' CEO says Google should study car use, not car building
Sat, Feb 14 2015Google is rapidly throwing its massive weight into many facets of the auto business. Not only does the search behemoth want to take on Uber, offer car insurance quotes and run a specific version of Android on future infotainment systems, but the company is also at least toying with the idea of constructing its own completely autonomous vehicles. Such a powerful corporation entering the industry could frighten some automakers, but Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche isn't worried. The mustachioed executive doesn't believe that Google actually means to become an automaker but is instead just studying how people use cars. "Google and the likes want to get involved, I don't think in the first place to build vehicles," he told analysts, according to Reuters. Zetsche sees future collaboration with the technology giant in a quite nuanced way in that there are some things they can be partners on and other places where the two corporations might be competitors. One area where Zetsche potentially predicts an antagonistic relationship with Google regards data privacy, a concern is becoming a hot topic in the auto industry at the moment. Zetsche foresees the future of safety in Mercedes-Benz vehicles as protecting occupants not just physically but also safeguarding their personal information. "To be able to provide that, we have to keep control, and we can't do that when it is collected by Google," Zetsche said to Reuters. Aston or Bust? Maybach's fate to be decided next month

What will become of Maybach? That question has been rattling around the halls of Daimler headquarters in Stuttgart for some time now. But all questions will be answered, and answered soon: according to reports, the German automaker is currently evaluating prototypes and propositions for its top-end marque, and will make its decision next month.
So, what are the options? On the one hand, Daimler could kill the Maybach brand altogether. It was a notion ill conceived and even more poorly executed, taking an old platform and building a new flagship atop it. In that way, it was sort of like the Chrysler Crossfire, only far more costly to both the buyer and manufacturer. On the other hand, Daimler could opt for the long-time-coming proposition of contracting the production (and possibly much of the development) of a new generation of Maybachs to Aston Martin.

Piloting an 8,500-pound motorized house down the highway is far from my idea of fun, yet inexplicably, I'm enjoying myself. My grin has nothing to do with my camper's handling, as this heavily accoutered Mercedes-Benz Sprinter drives like a 25-foot long breadbox. My smile has nothing to do with on-road stability, as the ten-foot-tall, slab-sided vehicle reacts to wind gusts like the vertical stabilizer on a Boeing jet. My delight has nothing to do with its throttle or braking response, either, as both are as numb as your forehead after the eighth beer.
This monstrosity makes me happy for one reason - my passengers are undeniably having a good time.
