Selling a 1979 300SD (W116) body, Turbo Diesel Sedan. Fully loaded car. This is the second year of the OM617 Turbo Diesel available from Mercedes. Car has approximately 134,200 miles on it. Runs and drives great! Transmission works and shifts like it should, no hard shifting or kicking.  The engine has plenty of power and the Garrison Turbo performs like it should. All Original! Interior is the factory interior as well as the exterior paint. Car starts right up.  Brakes are very responsive and suspension holds the car well. Nice firm steering with no play. No strange or weird noises coming from anywhere in the car.

The interior if the car is in near perfect condition. Very minimal signs of usage are present. All electrical works like it should. Factory radio works and power antenna goes up and down like it should.  Carpets are well above condition with no signs of wear. Seats are all comfortable and in good shape. The wood is found in near perfect shape, minor cracks are found, but nothing major. No rips on headliner or side panels. All door panels show minimal signs of usage. Rear look new.   Dash is in near perfect shape.  All cluster components work. Turn signal stays in position when engaged (no holding it down to signal) Steering wheel looks great.

The exterior is in very good shape, minor scuffs and imperfections are found, but then again, car is 35 years old. Chrome is well-above good condition.  All glass is intact, no chips or cracks.  All power motors work well; go up and down with ease. Power moon roof is silky smooth and no sign of water leak inside.  All doors seals are well above average, newer trunk seal.  Overall paint is above average for being the original coat.  Tires are found well –above good condition, same as the shocks. The air works, but will need a charge since it blow cold, then hot, and then back to cold.

Rims have been professionally re-painted 4 years ago; have a good luster to them.  All front and rear lenses show no signs of fatigue. All exterior lighting works (including the fog lamps). Straight body, all doors open and close correctly.

Recent work performed on car:

New motor mounts

New air filter, oil and fuel filters

Valves adjusted and new valve cover gasket replaced.

New Front pads

Front driver seat re-cushioned

New fuel return lines

Removed and Clean tank fuel screen

Newer battery (2012)

Overall, the car is a solid, clean, smoke-free car. For the age, it drives amazing. Very minimal details will make this car look perfect!  Turnkey car, I would trust driving anywhere with it!

Due to its age, car is offered AS-IS

Clean California title on hand.

Singer Porsche, Koenigsegg, NSX: Leno's life doesn't suck

Tue, Oct 6 2015

Jay Leno had quite a productive trip this year during Monterey Car Week. Not only did he get to pal around with Ian Callum and check out the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, but the denim-clad comedian also headed to The Quail to talk to some prominent figures in the modern sports car scene. Capping off the fun, he got to take a drive in a Mercedes-AMG GT S, too Perhaps the highlight of this show is a nearly 10-minute interview with Christian von Koenigsegg. The founder of the Swedish hypercar company digs deep into the Agera One:1's engineering details, relating interesting facts about the aerodynamics and transmission. In addition, Leno chats with Rob Dickenson of Singer about its newly reimagined Porsche 911 Targa, and he gets the latest scoop on the Acura NSX's progress from newly promoted Acura Vice President and General Manager Jon Ikeda. If you like hearing about the nuts and bolts of sports car development, then this video can't be missed. Of course, we were there at Monterey, too, and we pointed our own cameras at some of the amazing machinery, both vintage and modern, at all the various car-focused events of the week. Take a look back at some of our own cool footage in the videos below. Related Video:

Is Audi getting complacent and suffering from brain drain?

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

The argument is made in a Reuters article: Audi is falling behind other luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, due to a lack of research-and-development spending and "brain drain," or the migration of top executives and R&D chiefs to other parts of the Volkswagen Group. Reuters notes that Audi's current R&D chief is the third in 16 months.
Audi, which contributed to 40 percent of VW Group's $11.6 billion in profit the first nine months of the year, is delivering cars at a record pace: 1.31 million were delivered from January to October 2013 versus BMW's 1.35 million. Yet Audi, Reuters reports, doesn't have a halo car akin to BMW's new electrified i3 and i8 or an answer to Mercedes' plug-in-hybrid S-Class, and the R&D spending at Audi is less than BMW and Mercedes by a fair margin. It's noted in the article, however, that Audi benefits from other R&D spending within VW Group.
Reuters mentions that BMW "trumpets its new 'i' series" and the new Mercedes CLA and GLA ranges are winning "rave reviews" as part of its argument that Audi's recent lack of technological innovation could hurt future sales. Those cars do pack tons of new technology, some of which are firsts for mainstream production cars. But last time we checked, the i3 could be causing BMW's stock to slide, the CLA isn't receiving the rave reviews that Reuters would have you believe and the GLA hasn't been reviewed yet.

Mercedes Sprinter updated to take on Ford Transit, Ram ProMaster

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

By the end of this year, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will be the second-oldest nameplate in its segment here in the States, but with hot new competition waiting in the wings, Mercedes-Benz is giving its hauler a freshened look and more equipment to stave off rivals. The Sprinter was a pioneer in bringing Euro-style delivery vans to North America, and it's inspired others to transplant their Continental offerings, with the all-new Ford Transit and Ram Promaster models launching shortly. It will also continue to do battle with lower-cost traditional competitors like the Chevrolet Express and Ford E-Series.
The big Sprinter will thus get a new look to go with more safety features and available technology. While the information released here technically covers the Euro-spec 2013 Sprinter (which goes on sale in September), the US market is expected to get the new Sprinter for the 2014 model year with many of the same features. Some of this new technology includes a Crosswind Assist feature as standard equipment and the availability of Collision Prevention Assist and Blind Spot Assist as optional safety measures - Mercedes-Benz says that all three are firsts for any van in the world. Also added to the updated Sprinter is a new 1.8-liter supercharged gasoline (or CNG) engine producing 156 horsepower, which will complement the line of diesel engines that carry over and help make the Sprinter the first cargo van to meet the upcoming Euro VI emissions standards. Additionally, a lower ride height is said to improve fuel economy and should improve handling while aiding ingress and egress for both people and cargo.
In terms of styling, the Sprinter's new face also looks more like the current line of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. This includes a more upright grille along with changes to the hood, headlights and bumper that lend it a closer kinship to models like the CLS-Class and the updated E-Class. The Sprinter will offer both halogen and HID headlights, while the latter will get LED running lamps and offer Highbeam Assist. The images shown here only reveal the exterior from front angles, but it looks like few, if any, changes have been made to the rear of the van. Interior upgrades include a thicker steering wheel, a new shift lever and the latest in audio, navigation and entertainment systems. Scroll down for the official press release for the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
