Mini Cooper Countryman only small car to earn good grade in latest IIHS crash tests [w/video]

Competitors in the small-car segment didn't do nearly as well. Four vehicles earned "poor" grades.
Only one small car out of 12 tested earned a good grade in the latest round of crash-test results compiled by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Mini Cooper Countryman received a "good" ranking on the organization's small-front overlap test.
Updated Mazda3 hits US roads this year
Thu, Jul 14 2016Mazda released an updated variant of its Mazda3 that will go on sale in Japan today and later this year in the US. The compact vehicle benefits from Mazda's G-Vectoring Control (GVC) that provides integrated control of the vehicle's engine, chassis, transmission, and body. The result, from our own experience, results in a car that's more enjoyable to drive. GVC is the first feature in a series of new Skyactiv Vehicle Dynamics technologies. Mazda is developing them to provide drivers with greater feel and a more enjoyable experience. "Mazda is striving to become an irreplaceable presence in the lives of our customers, to create a special bond with them and to be a 'one-and-only' brand they will chose again and again," Mazda's CEO Masamichi Kogai said in a statement. Other than the new feature, the 2017 Mazda3 goes mostly unchanged with the front end gaining slimmer turn signals and fog lights. The current-gen lineup, claims Mazda, is centered around Jinba Ittai – a term the automaker uses to signify oneness between car and driver – that started with the launch of the Mazda CX-5. The updated Mazda3 will go on sale later this year in the US, but the automaker did not announce an official date. Watch a high-speed chase from a motorcycle-mounted officer's point of view
Sat, 13 Apr 2013Riding a motorcycle through high traffic can be a stressful experience. And we don't even want to imagine what it's like to have to actually pursue someone on a motorcycle. Fortunately, we don't have to. Officer Troy Gurley of the Florence, Alabama police force recently attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations. The driver, 24-year-old Justin Sanders, figured he could use his Mazda3 to outrun the bike cop. Turns out, not so much.
Gurley pursued Sanders for nearly five minutes as the Mazda driver ran stop signs, swerved through traffic and raced through residential neighborhoods, but the perpetrator couldn't shake the tenacious and experienced rider. Other units soon joined the pursuit, and Sanders thought it best to leave the protection of his car to attempt to flee on foot. From there, it didn't take officers long to apprehend him.
