1991 Mazda Rx-7 Base Coupe 2-door 1.3l on 2040-cars
Fayetteville, Arkansas, United States
Up for sale is my 1991 RX-7 Coupe. I am the third owner and have owned the car since 2003.
The good: The car is from Florida so the body has only a few small (dime size) spots of rust, except the lower window trim. Has never been in an accident. Suspension still tight, motor pulls strong, brakes are great, interior is in decent shape. Car is stock except for factory replacement 4 piston brakes on the front and a Miata shift knob (still have original). Power windows, wipers, and seat belts work. Seat belts are only 2 years old. Comes with two sets of tires, currently wearing the winter set. It has always been run on 2 cycle premix. All gauges work, but digital clock has the cold solder issue (common). The bad: The front rotor has an o-ring leak on the exhaust side. Although the car runs normally, it leaks exhaust into the cooling system. After about 20-30 minutes of driving without a stop, the low water buzzer can go off because the exhaust has forced the coolant out. You can stop, dump the coolant into the radiator and keep going, though. If you're not driving it long distances, you wouldn't notice a problem at all. CD/radio has mostly stopped working. Power antenna is broken and is in the up position. The mufflers are rusted through. Fuel injectors leak when it's cold so sometimes it smokes on start up. Transmission is notchy before it is warmed up and shifter feels a little loose. Has A/C hardware, but it hasn't had freon in years. Body has some small dents. The ugly: The paint is mostly faded away. The passenger door was repainted after a broken window and it has cracked (see picture). The hood has been resprayed with primer, but there is rust creeping back under it. The driver's seat has two tears in it. The speedo/tach console surround has broken from its mount. Above the speedo console the vinyl dash is cratered. The rubber trim on the hatch is pulling up on the driver's side (see picture). Summary: The car could use new paint and the engine will likely need to be overhauled/replaced eventually. Buyer to arrange for pickup/delivery. Deposit due within 48 hours, full payment with cash or cashier's check on pickup. |

Mazda6 diesel to race at Rolex 24, team and drivers announced
Fri, 04 Jan 2013Mazda is getting serious about showing off the Skyactiv-D turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine in the Mazda6. The automaker has just announced it will campaign three diesel Mazda6 racers in the Grand-Am GX class of the upcoming 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona in a quest to walk away with the company's 24th class win. Mazda partnered with SpeedSource to develop the race version of the new sedan, with Japanese and American engineers lending a helping hand where needed. Meanwhile, Freedom Autosport and Visit Florida Racing/SpeedSource/Yellow Dragon Racing will helm teams of their own.
Each car will make use of a five-driver team for the 24-hour race on January 26. In the interim, you can check out the full press release below for more information as well as the full driver roster. Mazda says we can expect to see the No. 70 SpeedSource car under the lights at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show later this month, as well.
Mazda sells 10 millionth car in the US, does something special
Wed, 23 Oct 2013When Lauren Carter of Glen Ellyn, IL was in the market for her first car, she went for a Mazda3. Not a bad choice, but not necessarily remarkable on the surface. After all, Mazda sold 123,361 of them here last year alone. What she didn't know was that the car she bought was the 10 millionth Mazda had sold in the US over the course of its 43-year history here, since selling its first rotary-powered R100 here in 1970.
Rather than let the occasion pass with nothing more than a press release (like the one below), Mazda gave Lauren a brand-new 2014 Mazda3 to replace the 2013 model she had bought. Which is a nice gesture, of course, but also enables Mazda to hold on to the landmark 10,000,000th car in its heritage collection.
Mazda still really wants to bring diesels to America
Mon, Jul 25 2016Mazda's Skyactiv program has delivered much of what it promised for the brand's latest crop of products, namely great fuel economy and excellent driving dynamics. However, the Skyactiv diesel engine has yet to reach our shores. It's been promised ever since the new Mazda6 showed up here for the 2014 model year. According to a new report from Automotive News, Mazda's CEO Masamichi Kogai said that the Mazda Skyactiv D diesel powertrain is still set to make an American appearance. He told Automotive News that there is an internal timeline to get it to the States, and while he didn't reveal the timeline, he said he wants it to come here before he steps down as CEO. The powertrain is offered elsewhere, so it fits in the company's current vehicles, but the US has specific regulatory hurdles, and the engine's extra cost has to make sense from a sales and volume perspective. We doubt VW's diesel scandal helped the engine's sales pitch, either. Automotive News also reports that the next generation of Skyactiv designs and engines are also on their way and will advance and improve on the current generation's strengths. Engineers revealed to Automotive News that they expect a 30 percent improvement in efficiency and are developing an engine with the sky-high compression ratio of 18:1. This impressive ratio could be a further indication of Mazda's pursuit of homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engines. Mazda has had plenty of success with its strategy of making very efficient internal-combustion engines, but there are some concerns that the company can only improve so much. The main worry comes from the company's lack of investment in hybrid and electric powertrains. Even Mazda's North American CEO Masahiro Moro expressed concern about meeting a 54.5 mpg mandate for 2025. That mandate will no longer take effect, but increasing fuel economy requirements will always be an issue. Related Video:
