2001 lOTUS eSPRIT
This 2001 Lotus Esprit, Calypso Red over a Tan interior, is a three owner car in incredible original condition. It's most recent owner is a professional mechanic and true Lotus enthusiast. He has carefully maintained and preserved the car. As he told me, "I drive it like a Camry." The car was bought new at Lotus of Denver and then had one subsequent owner before coming to the east coast. Mechanically, the car has several nice upgrades. The most noticeable are the genuine 3 piece HRE wheels, which the previous owner purchased at a cost of over $4000. They are stock size and the tires were replaced two years ago and still look virtually new with only several hundred miles on them. The car is equipped with a Tubi exhaust and sport cats, as well as blow off valves. The car also runs a fully adjustable suspension with poly bushings. The timing belt was replaced with a Gates belt 500 miles ago. Gates belts are long lasting alternatives to the stock belts. The oil was also changed with fresh Motul 500 miles ago, along with brake fluid (Motful) and antifreeze (Mercedes Blue.) The car comes with great service records and receipts. The nose and sills of the car are wrapped in a Star Shield clear bra to protect it from the road. The overall condition of the car is remarkable, with only a few minor signs of use, namely a few small stone chips, the normal (but slight) wear to the driver's side seat bolster, and a few small cracks in very edge of the front wheelarches because the car previously wore 19 inch wheels. Other than that, the car is about as immaculate as you could get for a 13 year old car with 25,700 miles on it. The paint is absolutely beautiful and the interior looks practically brand new. It has a clean carfax (see pics below.) According to the previous owner car has never been tracked or abused in any way. The car comes with all its records, its original window sticker, a fitted car cover, as well as a number of items for the next tune up. Iridium plugs, plenum gasket, plug wires, etc. A new clutch for the car is also available for an additional cost, for future use. China's Geely buying majority stake in Lotus
Wed, May 24 2017Geely, the Hong Kong car company that owns Volvo, is acquiring control of British car company Lotus. Geely is purchasing a 51-percent stake in Lotus from struggling Malaysian car company Proton, and a 49.9 percent stake in Proton itself. Etika Automotive will gain the other 49 percent of Lotus. France's PSA Group and Japan's Suzuki had apparently also been interested in acquiring Proton. Geely says it plans to revive both Proton and Lotus. "The agreement lays the foundation for a wider framework for both Geely Holding, Proton and Lotus to explore joint synergies in areas such as research and development, manufacturing and market presence," Geely said in a news release. Those joint synergies will be highlighted by the lightweight chassis technology Lotus is known for, which could help Geely improve fuel efficiency. Geely CFO Daniel Donghui Li said the company aims to "unleash the full potential of Lotus Cars" by expanding and accelerating new products and technologies. Proton was nationally held but was privatized in 2007 to Malaysian conglomerate DRB-Hicom, which is owned by tycoon Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary. It was supposed to be the flagship for Malaysia's economic development.Though it owns two factories, Proton mainly rebadges foreign-made cars and sells them in Malaysia. What it has, what Geely presumably wants, is a distribution network in Southeast Asia to pit Chinese cars against Japanese automotive dominance in the region. Retaining a 50.1-percent stake in Proton is seen as a face-saving move. "Proton will always remain a national car and a source of pride, as Proton will still have a majority hold of 50.1 percent," Malaysian finance official Johari Abdul Ghani said. "Our very own much-loved brand now has a real chance in making a comeback, a huge one I hope." Related Video:
Lotus F1 confirms Grosjean, Maldonado for 2015
Wed, 19 Nov 2014With the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix now just ten days away, the focus is beginning to shift to next year's Formula One World Championship, with more and more pieces to the puzzle falling into place. And the latest news comes from the Lotus team. The Enstone-based outfit has confirmed that it's keeping both its drivers right where they are for next season, with Romain Grosjean partnering Pastor Maldonado once again.
Swiss driver Grosjean, now 28 years old, made his grand prix debut with the team in 2009, returned as test driver in 2011 while winning the GP2 title, returned to the F1 grid in 2012 and has been driving for the team ever since. He's scored nine podium finishes to date, but has finished no better than his eighth place this season.
Venezuelan pilot Maldonado, 29, won the GP2 the year before his teammate, and moved up to F1 with Williams, for whom he drove for three seasons before switching to Lotus for this one. He shocked the field when he won the Spanish Grand Prix in 2012, but has only finished in the points once this season.
Lotus F1 Team promotes Joylon Palmer for next season
Mon, Oct 26 2015After letting its longtime protege Romain Grosjean go to the Haas F1 team, Lotus has named his successor for next season. Driving for the team as it transitions back to being the Renault factory outfit will be one Jolyon Palmer, the current reigning GP2 champion and possibly one of the best-poised drivers to make it into Formula One. The 24-year-old Brit has been steadily working his way up the formula racing ladder, winning races in Formula Two and GP2 over the past several years before winning the latter title last season. During that victorious campaign he also served as a test driver for Force India, before switching to Lotus this season and getting 10 grand prix practice sessions under his harness. Jolyon's own experience undoubtedly sealed the deal, but his upbringing surely put him in a prime position to make it in single-seater racing. He's the son of former F1 driver Jonathan Palmer, himself a past Formula Two champ before completing half a dozen seasons in Formula One. It's what the elder Palmer's been up to since leaving the grid, however, that's put the son in such a strong position. As head of MotorSport Vision, Jonathan Palmer controls five major racing tracks across the UK – including BrandsHatch, Outlton Park, Snetterton, Cadwell Park and the Bedford Autodrome. He also runs a couple of trackday programs, founded the now-defunct Formula Palmer Audi series and continues to operate the FIA Formula Two Championship, the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, and the British Superbike Championship. All of which gave young Jolyon plenty of room to run as he developed his career. Will that be enough to put the young Palmer in a position to win next season? Only time will tell. But he arrives at a pivotal time for the team, which is expected to transition back from the privately held Lotus operation to Renault's hands, running once again as the factory team – but saddled with an engine package that has been underperforming against the competition. One way or another, it ought to be an interesting time to be in Enstone. Related Video:
