I have decided to sell my prized Lincoln Mark VIII. I have always loved the style of these cars, particularly in black, and have enjoyed both of the models I have owned.  Both the previous owner and myself used this car as a "sunny day" car.  THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH!!  That's why the original black paint is SWIRL FREE!!  There is absolutely no rust on the car anywhere.  The car has always been keep clean and inside, away from the sun and elements.  The headlight lenses look clear because they are!  No attempted cleanups/short term polish jobs; these are new OEM (now low mileage) parts.  This car is as nice a Mk VIII as I have seen.  No dents, dings, etc...none.  The  car is straight.  There are a few inevitable stone chips on the front fascia and hood, but that's it.  Very, very nice car with all the necessary upgrades and fixes.

If you know about these cars, you know there were only about 24,000 of these Gen II Mark VIIIs made.  The last of the US-built 2-door personal luxury cars, there were a lot of "firsts" designed into these cars, such as the first domestically-built car to feature HID headlamps, and the rear neon light panel. They were also the first cars to use the DOHC Ford modular engine and boasted extensive use of aluminum to lighten the car for greater performance. The list of standard features is long, and I believe there were only 5 options available on the cars, aside from LSC vs. standard, colors, wheel type, etc. The 5 options were the cell phone, moonroof, heated seats, universal garage door remote, and CD player. You could also decline the traction control if desired. This car is equipped with the CD player, garage door remote, and this car has traction control.

I found this car in 2009 in central Florida (Lakeland). At the time I had another black '98 LSC that was an original Michigan car. The Michigan car was nice, but I wanted a nicer one since I really enjoyed the style and driveability of these cars. I had learned a lot about these cars owning the first one, and had purchased a lot of parts for the MI car, most of which were swapped onto this car before selling the MI car. Below is a partial list of some of the new OEM and aftermarket parts I was able to improve this already sanitary Florida car with.  These parts all had less than 10,000 miles on them when I put them on this car and have only accumulated 20,000 miles since transfer:

- Motorcraft air struts

- Ford complete HID headlamp assemblies

- A 24,000 mile rear neon assembly

- DynoTech Mark VIII aluminum driveshaft

- American Air Suspensions high performance suspension air compressor, also American Air "spider" valve with dryers (for air system)

- 3 Motorcraft air suspension solenoids and 4 line kits

- 17" Fittipaldi wheels/Pirelli P Zero tires

Other parts that were purchased new for this car include:

- Windshield

- Rear shock mount set

- Moog anti-sway bar bushings, strut rod mounts

- 8 Motorcraft ignition coils, NGK iridium spark plugs

- Raybestos ceramic brake pads, rotors, and brake hat "shims" to correct runout

- Motorcraft engine cooling fan and fan connector

- Heating/air conditioning blend door servo (involves extensive labor to install...common Mark VIII problem)

- Motorcraft alternator and battery

- K&N air filter

- Stainless steel Magnaflow mufflers

- "Wheelskins" leather steering wheel wrap

- Motorcraft a/c accumulator/drier and pressure switch

- Ford OEM water manifold, purge plug, hoses

- Reinhart Automotive tuner pendant with 2 calibrations

- Rear backlight trim (to eliminate "wrinkling" of OEM trim)

- Belt and idler

- Much more!

All receipts are included with this car, including receipts and CarFax from previous owner, who purchased the car when it was 3 years old from the original owner, who had leased it then bought it outright.  All accessories and spares I have for this car are included in the purchase.  This includes 2 HID headlamp assemblies with 2 spare HID bulbs!  Also a car cover, an engine dress cover (only available in '97), factory brochures, an extra CD magazine for the WORKING CD PLAYER, an optional voice-actuated cellphone, a driver's seat frame with motors, and more.

A few other notes.  Regarding trades; the reason I am selling this car is to finance an upgrade to my motorcycle.  I am wanting to replace my BMW GS with a newer one.  So if you have a 2009 or newer BMW R1200GSA, we can talk.  Also, regarding the underhood cleanliness of the car.  I'm not a huge fan of washing engines of vehicles of this vintage.  However, I have the facilities and if after driving the car to confirm performance you would like to have it cleaned I'll be happy to accommodate for an additional $50 (the coil covers/coils must be removed on these cars after cleaning to blow away all water from the wells).

If there are any questions or additional photos you would like to see, please ask!  And good luck!

IMPORTANT ADDITION!!

Bidders must have at least 25 deals at 100% to bid or contact me first!  I will cancel future bids otherwise.  I want this auction to follow protocols please.  These auctions must be taken seriously, and followed as a contract.

I will have limited internet access over the coming weekend and into the end of the auction.  Sorry, this was my fault for late planning.  Please contact me via eBay and I will be able to handle questions semi-regularly.  I wouldn't advise waiting until the last minute.

Thank you!

Least reliable cars and trucks of 2022

Tue, Nov 15 2022

Related: Most reliable cars and trucks of 2022   Every year, Consumer Reports ranks new cars based on their predicted reliability. We often see Toyota, Lexus, and a few other automakers near the top. But on the other side of the coin, the list of least reliable vehicles sometimes contains surprises.   The organization surveys its members to determine the vehicles that exhibited the most problems over the prior year. Owners are asked about creaks and rattles, the durability of parts and trim, and mechanical issues. Consumer Reports assigns a weight to each problem and then uses them to create a score, with 100 being the best. Some familiar names appear on the list of least reliable vehicles (in order with the lowest predicted reliability score at the top), but there are a few eyebrow-raising models, followed by CR's score: Ford F-150 Hybrid: 4 Hyundai Kona Electric: 5 Lincoln Aviator: 8 Nissan Sentra: 9 Ford Explorer: 16 Chevrolet Bolt: 17 Chevrolet Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500: 19 Jeep Gladiator: 21 Mercedes-Benz GLE: 23 Jeep Wrangler: 24 Consumer Reports noted that sedans are the most reliable vehicle category and found that trucks are far lower on the list. That said, the survey showed that trucks from American brands tended to have better reliability scores, so it’s surprising to see GMÂ’s big two and the Ford F-150 on the list. Part of their problematic ownership experience could be due to the fact that all three trucks have received recent updates, and the Ford was completely redesigned for 2022. New tech, fresh drivetrain components, and other improvements can upset the balance of reliability and make newer models look less dependable than their older counterparts. NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
