Lincoln Continental Convertible for 1962
America's Most Distinguished Motorcar
You will notice refinements in styling for 1962, from the new front grille to the new rear styling. Yet you will
recognize the automobile as UNMISTAKABLY CONTINENTAL.
For it remains alone in its classic look.
“The Continental changed a bit in 1962.”
Still, styling changes continued to be mild, among them were:
-A simpler front grille design with floating rectangles and a thin center bar was adopted.
-Thinner 1-inch whitewall band for tires
-Headlights raised 1 inch
-Steering wheel raised 3/4ths of an inch
-Wider and flatter convertible top bows (3/4 inch lower)
-Squarer rear door upper window design on Convertible.
All Continentals are equipped with automatic transmission; radio; power seats; power windows; power steering.
Singular in its luxury and comfort. Unique in its ease of handling, its center rear opening rear doors, its full
power auxiliaries as standard equipment.
Unequaled in its construction and ride, incorporating an impressive list of engineering refinements.
This year, discover Lincoln Continental for yourself.
Examine its new, even more luxurious interior.
Turn the Key and feel the powerful response of the largest and most carefully built engine of any automobile made.
Drive it and experience the full power and the unsurpassed ride of the Continental.
And, when you do, imagine how it will feel to own a Lincoln Continental Convertible...
*****Production note*******
Out of the 31,061 total produced, only 3,212 were CONVERTIBLES were produced.
What that means is only 9.899% of the entire production were CONVERTIBLES.
In recent stats suggest, that only 3 percent, are still in existence. That means there are less than 100.68 of
these Lincolns left on the road.
Production Started: October 12, 1961 Production Ended: July 24, 1962.
She was born on July 17th, 1961 produced to be sold in District Sales Office Pittsburg Pennsylvania.

Bio of this 2 owner lady:
Owner number 1:
She was owned by R. Campbell, was the owner and founder of one the best know Wall Street firms of its time. Mr.
Campbell, had very close ties to the GREAT NEWSPAPER STRIKE OF 1962. Mr. Campbell was a key figure in bringing the
New York Times, the Daily News, and theNew York Post to the bargaining table to end the strike.
Mr. Campbell cared and loved her until his passing. I was fortunate to rescue her from his care taker who knew how
special this Continental was, but just didn't know how to care for her.
She truly is a piece of American history.
Mr. Campbell only drove her 80,438 miles over her lifetime.

When I found her, she was sitting under a cover sleeping inside a garage in Akron New York. As I looked her over, I
knew she was solid as solid could get. Her bones are what you would expect being keep warm and dry by a very loving
owner.
Her body needed very little work.
Here were the steps:
*****Note*****
Prior to paint, her chrome trim was all removed re-chromed and professionally hand polished.
1. She was taken down to the metal (by hand) NOT by sand blasting. I was amazed at how perfect she was under that
faded paint. She spent well over 90 days in paint and body. "No need to rush perfection".
Then we began by degreasing the metal to remove contaminants left over from the stripping process. The metal is
then treated and coated with zinc for superior corrosion resistance and better adhesion of the subsequent paint
layers.
3. Primer was the first layer of paint. It is formulated to fill tiny scratches and imperfections in the body
and give the subsequent color coats something to adhere to. Unlike the drab gray primer of yesteryear, we used
colored primer to hide future damage from rock or stone chips.
4. The base coat, or color layer, was the next in the process. In the past, this was the final layer of paint,
which was directly exposed to the environment. We then applied clear coat paint over the final color layer. (Clear
coat is a layer of paint without color pigment added-it is simply clear paint. The clear coat adds high gloss while
protecting the colored base coat from scratching, chipping, and the effects of the environment.)
Finally....Her paint is thick and smooth as you can see in the photos.

J Mays retiring from Ford design, succeeded by Moray Callum

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

Ford's highly influential head of design, J Mays, has announced that he'll be retiring from his position after 33 years in the industry, 16 of which were at the Dearborn, MI-based company. Upon departure, he'll be succeeded as group vice president of design by Moray Callum. If that last name sounds familiar, yes, he's the brother of Jaguar's Ian Callum.
It's difficult to explain just how big of a role Mays had on not just Ford's design over the years, but on the entire industry. Before heading to Dearborn, Mays worked for Audi, BMW and then Volkswagen, where he was involved in concept cars that paved the way for design icons like the first-generation Audi TT and the Volkswagen New Beetle. As for his Ford resume, it's extensive.
Mays joined the company in 1997 as design director for Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda, as well as the Premier Automotive Group (Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin). He was heavily involved in the Ford Fusion, Focus, Fiesta, Taurus, F-150 and Mustang, while also contributing to concept cars like the Atlas, Evos, 427, Forty-Nine, Shelby GR-1, Lincoln MKZ and the MKC.

MyFord Touch getting buttons and knobs back to counter criticisms

Mon, 17 Jun 2013

Ford deserves credit for being a front-runner in offering advanced infotainment technology with its Sync and MyFord Touch systems, but continued consumer complaints over its confusing touchscreen interface and capacitive controls has made the automaker relent. The Wall Street Journal reports that physical buttons and knobs for controlling tuning and volume will be coming back to Ford vehicles equipped with the controversial infotainment system.
The 2013 F-150 with MyFord Touch gives us a glimpse of what the new layout with buttons and knobs might look like, as Ford says a similar balance of touch screen capability and buttons/knobs are what's being planned for future models. And, while capacitive controls have no fans in the halls of Autoblog, many of Ford's models with MyFord Touch do have a large physical knob for adjusting volume with integrated buttons for tuning and advancing tracks, though most of those are models with the optional upgraded Sony Audio system. Lincoln models with MyLincoln Touch, however, feature only capacitive controls for all stereo and climate functions.
Despite receiving enough complaints to throw buttons and knobs back into the mix (a move that reminds us of BMW's iDrive trajectory, among others), Ford reports that Sync and MyFord Touch have still been sold on 79 percent of its 2013 model year vehicles, a number it claims is double the rate that Honda and Toyota are getting for their infotainment systems. Ford also states that owners who do opt for the duo of technologies are more satisfied with overall vehicle quality than those who don't have it.

Lincoln to adopt Mini-like personalization strategy?

Fri, 18 Jan 2013

There's no single silver bullet that will cure all that ails the Lincoln brand, and Ford knows that just as surely as we do. Coming out with exciting new models like the well-received MKC crossover counts as several steps in the right direction, assuming of course that the production version is as appealing as the concept just shown at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, but more is needed. According to Jim Farley, executive vice president of Lincoln, one more trick may be "mass customization."
Put another way, Lincoln is considering ways to allow buyers to customize their new vehicles right off the showroom floor, similar to how things are done at Mini, and, to a lesser extent, Scion, where Farley previously served as corporate manager. Imagine, for instance, ordering a new MKC with a large Lincoln insignia embossed into the leather seatbacks, according to Automotive News.
While we're not so sure anybody is all that interested in paying extra for more Lincoln logos, it's a strategy that has proven rather fruitful at Mini. Only time will tell if Ford's erstwhile luxury division will once again be seen as something truly worth reaching for, and if customers are willing to pay a further premium for customization.
