1941 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet

This is your opportunity to purchase a truly rare car and iconic successor of the popular and famous Zephyr class models. This is one of the only 400 Lincoln Continental convertibles that were produced in 1941.

Inspired by the great trans oceanic passenger liners, the modern marvels of its time,; we can see in this land ship, the influence of the greatest engineering marvels of its day. The maritime curves of its "bow wave" grill and the boat tail shaped rear of this very large, luxury model vehicle, are a tribute to the elegance and majesty of these great ships. Considered to be the automotive pinnacle of pre world war II engineering, this car with its art deco streamlining is, unquestionably, Edsel Ford's finest design.

The owner of this car, Mike Lombard, has restored many cars and this is his most recent restoration project.  All the seals, gaskets, etc. have been replaced. You are purchasing a car that has been restored to as close as like new condition as possible.

This pre war antique automobile has 44,000 miles on it. We believe the engine was replaced at some time during the life of the car with an almost identical to the original, 1946 - 48 flathead V-12. During the engine rebuild process, we could see the original honing marks still visible on the pistons of this motor. The car has just been through a complete frame off restoration and was restored with the idea that it can be used as a daily driver. Please call Mike for details or to make an offer on the car, 304 754 9854. Trades for another car or boat will be considered. Please do not email questions as I am just listing this as a favor for my good friend, Mike.

The car is currently located in Martinsburg, W. Va., just North of Washington D.C. near Harpers Ferry.

Is Lincoln MKC cutting into Cadillac SRX sales?

Tue, 07 Oct 2014

The two big American luxury brands of Cadillac and Lincoln are on surprisingly similar paths at the moment with both divisions hoping to redefine themselves and grow popularity. They're still early in the process with no clear winner yet, but things might actually be looking up for Lincoln's latest model, according to a monthly sales analysis from The Motley Fool. It seems, at least early on, that the new MKC crossover might be taking a bite out of the Cadillac SRX's growth.
The MKC launched just a few months ago and has been getting a big marketing push from a series of oft-mocked ads starring the smooth-talking Matthew McConaughey. The luxury CUV has been the popular, new kid on the block with growing sales since its introduction. While smaller than the SRX, the Lincoln starts at a lower price and offers better fuel economy.
Through June, the SRX performed well with sales up over 20 percent on average through June, according to The Motley Fool. However, July and August saw things plummet with year-over-year drops of 7 percent and 37 percent, respectively. It still far outsold the MKC in terms of actual units in a given month, but the Caddy's continued growth has appeared to stagnate.

Ford's Galhotra succeeds Farley as head of Lincoln

Wed, 23 Jul 2014

Ford Motor Company is announcing a major personnel shakeup that could have a dramatic effect on the future of the Lincoln division. Kumar Galhotra (pictured above), currently vice president of engineering at Ford for all of its vehicles worldwide, is taking over as the president of the luxury brand on September 1, replacing Jim Farley. The automaker is also hiring a new head of advanced engineering.
Galhotra has a huge job ahead of him as the new boss of Lincoln worldwide, overseeing product development, marketing, sales and service. His task is to turn the luxury division into a world-class brand as quickly as possible, and he reports directly to Ford President and CEO Mark Fields.
"These changes underscore our commitment to build on the success of our One Ford plan by accelerating our pace of progress. They also make clear we are serious about Lincoln as a world-class luxury brand and that product excellence and innovation are what will deliver growth and define our entire company going forward," said Fields in the company's announcement.

Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception

Tue, 25 Sep 2012

It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.
