I have owned this classic woody since July 2012, having bought it as a Summer project. The previous owner drove the vehicle until 2005 and parked it in her back yard. To my knowledge, I'm the third owner. All original, 168k, AMC 360, TorqueCommand 727 Automatic Transmission, Selec-Trac (229) 4WD, 'Classic Black' on Tan interior. Healthy number of new parts installed since July 2012. Solid frame (see chassis photos) -- originally a West coast vehicle. Starts and runs strong on the coldest of mornings and shifts smoothly. Very stock vehicle, with two exceptions. The original radio was replaced with an aftermarket CD/MP3 unit and the air pump and air injection tubes have been removed from the engine and the exhaust manifold ports plugged. This Wagoneer has typical wear associated with a 25 y/o Jeep one would expect; a few dents and paint chips etc., which I've tried to capture in the photos. Floor pans are mostly good and have a few small dime-size patches. The front driver and passenger side pans have been treated with POR15. Overall, I'd label the body and interior both as 'fair'. Not a show Jeep, but could be with light body work/paint and interior refresh. Looking to sell so I can move on to another project and free garage space. Currently registered and inspected in RI until November 2014. FSJs are classic vehicles that turn heads wherever they go. I've even found the occassional complimentary note on the windshield from time to time. The vehicle will be sold with a copy of the current RI registration (RI doesn't title vehicles older than 10 yrs.) and a notarized Bill of Sale. I welcome all questions and will post replies in the listing for all bidders to see. Vehicle is also for sale locally; auction will end early if local buyer is found. Here is a list of work that's been performed and work that she could use. Most of the ignition parts were replaced pre-emptively, simply to add reliability. Jeep was not known for strong electrical systems, so I elected to add some peace of mind to the driving experience. Photos of the problem areas to give prospective buyers a true sense of condition. The Good: -Dropped & Cleaned Fuel Tank -New Fuel Pickup & Sender -Re-built original Motorcraft 2BBL Carburetor -New hand-bent steel and rubber brake lines, Calipers, and Brake Pads (only brake lines not replaced were hard lines between master cylinder and proportioning valve) -New Master Cylinder -New Distributor, Distributor Cap, Rotor, and Plug Wires -New Ignition Module -New Ignition Coil -New Starter Solenoid -New transmission selector shaft seal -New transmission filter and fluid -Power Windows all raise/lower with either the driver master switch OR individual door switch -Treated floor-pan rust with POR15 (pans are still very solid, with two small dime-size holes that were patched with fiberglass filler) -Tailgate Window raises and lowers reliably from the tailgate key-switch and intermittently from dash switch* -New transmission output and transfer case input seals (Jan '13) -4WD engages properly -Tire Balance and Front-End Alignment -Fresh Battery -New Headliner Fabric The Bad: -Oil weep from crank seal and oil drain plug -Coolant weep from radiator drain fitting -Transmission fluid weep (unsure of source -- possibly pan gasket) -Slight exhaust leak near down-tube/heat-riser -Right rear axle seal weep -Engine Wire Harness and Dash Harness had sections of burned wire when I bought the Wagoneer last July. I spliced in sections of new wire where needed to make the electrics functional. Original harness can be found on Ebay for $50-100. -Needs new vent windows ($75-100/ea at junk yard or Ebay) -Needs carpet sill plates -Leaf spring bushings to improve road manners -Passenger rocker needs a patch under the rear door, roughly 4" across -Driver and passenger quarter panels need minor spot repair -Rear Defroster inop (Solder let go at tailgate window. I have the wire harness, which can be re-soldered) -Needs new door jamb switches to activate dome lights upon entry/exit (both dome/cargo lights work manually at the overhead switches)

Chrysler taking big risk snubbing NHTSA
Wed, 05 Jun 2013Maker Insists Feds Overstate Risk Of Fires With Grand Cherokee, Liberty Models
It's not often that recall stories make it above the fold, in that old newspaper parlance, but when one shows up as the lead story on the network evening news programs, you know it's something big.
And so it is with Chrysler snubbing its nose at a request by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to recall 2.7 million Jeeps the feds insist are at risk of potentially catastrophic fuel tank fires in a rear-end collision.
Chrysler banks $507 million in Q2, trims 2013 earnings forecast
Tue, 30 Jul 2013Chrysler has some good news and some bad news. First, profits were up 16 percent over the second quarter of 2012, bringing the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based manufacturer $507 million on the back of strong demand for trucks and SUVs (a recurring theme this quarter, particularly in the US). Q2 revenue was up as well, from $16.8 billion in 2012 to $18 billion in 2013. The bad news is that the Pentastar's overall earnings forecast for net income in 2013 has been trimmed from $2.2 billion to between $1.7 and $2.2 billion, according to Automotive News.
In addition to the adjusted net income forecast, Chrysler tweaked its operating profit from $3.8 billion to between $3.3 and $3.8 billion. This has gone largely unexplained by Chrysler, perhaps hoping the news of a three-percent increase in its transaction prices for Q2 will allow it to sweep this adjustment under the rug.
The star of the show for Chrysler has been its US sales, which saw a 10-percent jump, both bettering the industry average of eight percent and improving over the same stretch of 2012. As with the increase in transaction prices, Chrysler has the new Ram pickup and Jeep Grand Cherokee to thank. Perhaps most worrying from this report, though, is that every brand in the automaker's stable saw an increase in sales... except for the Chrysler brand itself.
NHTSA investigating power modules on Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans
Mon, 29 Sep 2014The Center for Auto Safety is officially petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to begin scrutinizing alleged problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on about 24 Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans. The advocacy group claims that the part's failure can cause affected vehicles to stall or not start at all. NHTSA is still looking into the accusations and deciding whether a full investigation is actually warranted.
The CAS petition claims at least 70 TIPM failures, but according to NHTSA, six of the complaints are for models that don't have the modules. In 34 of the reported cases, the vehicles refused to start, and in 17 of them the engine stalled. There were also two allegations of smoke and one of a fire. However, none of these affected airbag deployment or resulted in a crash.
This petition isn't the first TIPM-related problem for Chrysler Group. A recent report in the New York Times alleged that it found 240 complaints potentially related to the issue on NHTSA's website alone. In September, the automaker also recalled 230,760 examples worldwide (188,723 in the US) of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango replace the fuel pump relay circuit inside of the TIPM-7 with one external to the unit. The original part could allegedly cause the models to stall without warning. Even earlier, the company also recalled about 80,000 examples of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro in 2007 to have the module reprogrammed.
