If you are looking for a a cool car to take to the local cruise night or want a solid hunting vehicle, you may want to check out my Willys Jeep.  Up for auction is my 1948 Willys Jeep CJ2A. I found this little beauty in a covered shed on a farm near my home in central New Mexico.  From what I understand it had not been used in nearly 20 years which I guess qualifies as a barn find.   I am no expert but I’ll give you my opinion on the condition.  It appears to be in what I consider very good condition. The “Go Devil” 4 cylinder engine has great oil pressure, runs great with no smoke and appears to be very happy.  The transmission shifts and shows no signs of jumping out of gear (it is missing the shift knob). The 4 wheel drive seems to be operating properly.    It has been converted to 12 volt and has a new battery and rebuilt starter.  The cooling system seems to be in good shape. Note the rare original air cleaner!! The body is in good condition. Note the diamond plate that has been put on the floor and rear fender wells. It looks to have been professionaly done.   The seat looks to be of the original type but is not permanently mounted as it will need to be upholstered.  As seen in the photos the steering wheel isn’t original.   The seals in the transfer case and differential covers are leaking but some old timers say that’s from sitting and will slow down as the seals swell.  That appears to be correct.  The throw out bearing is growling but that to seems to be getting better as it is driven.  The tires have a lot of tread but are very old and not road worthy. The chassis has had some repairs over the 66 years but looks pretty darn good.  The frame rails behind the front bumper have had the reinforcement plates added (hence the reassigned VIN).   Restore it or enjoy it. Bottom line is it’s not perfect but several knowledgeable people have told me this is one of the best they have seen in years. This isn’t a rusty piece of junk.  It has a reassigned VIN & clear New Mexico title in my name. This Willys Jeep is located in Los Lunas, NM approx 20 miles south of Albuquerque. You’re the experts so ask questions before you bid.  I have a low reserve.  Winning bidder to pay $500 non refundable deposit within 24 hrs of auction end via paypal, balance due within 7 days.  Buyer is responsible for shipping.  Vehicle will not be released until my bank is satisfied that funding is complete.  Good Luck

Jeep dealer buries WWII Willys GP in showroom floor

Tue, 04 Nov 2014

The Willys MB Jeep earned icon status during World War II thanks to its ruggedness, simplicity and go-anywhere ability. Following the war, it didn't take long for the handy vehicles to be scooped up by the public, and a brand slowly grew around the vehicles that has continued to thrive. Fast-forward to present day, where it's not uncommon for auto dealers to try to grab some of the magic of yesteryear by displaying classic models to connect customers with their brands' proud histories. Now, a Canadian Chrysler Group dealer is taking that notion to the extreme by actually making a vintage WWII Jeep part of its foundation.
Bay King Chrysler in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, recently completed its new showroom, and the franchise really wanted to show its dedication to the Jeep brand. As dealer principal Jamie Richter tells Autoblog, the inspiration for the Jeep installation came from his brother, who became fascinated with a home that had a glass floor looking down into its wine cellar. The company already had the 1943 Willys MB to display, but it had originally planned to build a jungle gym around it for customers' kids. Now, the classic is literally in the floor as customers enter. Richter tells Autoblog that customer reaction so far has been "fantastic."
It's certainly a novel way to bring people into the showroom, and seemingly a nice nod not only to Jeep, but to the men and women who served in the war. If you want to see more about how the Jeep was actually installed and what it looks like, check out this video.

WWII Jeep 'found in crate' set to cross Greenwich auction block

Thu, 30 May 2013

Fans of old military vehicles might want to pay extra close attention to the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance coming up this weekend. Crossing the Bonhams auction block on Sunday are a pair of seemingly flawless World War II Jeeps, which are both expected to fetch serious dollars.
Lot Number 305 at the auction is a 1945 Ford GPW Jeep that has been fully restored, which is expected to command between $35,000 and $45,000. Shortly after the Ford GPW, a potentially more interesting 1944 Willys MB (shown above) will be auctioned off, but Hemmings raises some red flags about this Jeep. First, it is claiming to have been "discovered in its original crate about 30 years ago," but there is no proof or documentation of any sort. Also, it is claiming to be all original, but it was given a paint job "shortly after it was discovered." Even with these questionable descriptions, this Willys could reach between $20,000 and $30,000. Head over to Bonhams' site and Hemmings for more information on both WW2-era Jeeps.

Fiat Chrysler target 850k sales in China by 2018

Sun, 11 May 2014

Behind the vanguard of numerous Jeep models, two Chryslers, a smattering of Fiats and Alfa Romeos and local production through a joint venture with Guangzhou Automotive Group (GAG), Fiat Chrysler wants to increase sales in China more than six-fold by 2018. The group sold 130,000 cars in China in 2013, the aim for 2018 being 850,000 cars.
Ultimately it's expected that the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, Wrangler, Renegade, the coming Grand Wagoneer and a sub-Renegade-sized crossover will either be built in or exported to the People's Republic. The Chrysler Town & Country and 300 will join the export list in 2016 and 2018 respectively, according to a report in Automotive News.
With a number of those vehicles not in production or perhaps even envisaged yet, and others not due on the local market until 2018, it will be interesting to see how Fiat Chrysler plans to achieve the target in the specified timeframe. The joint venture with GAG builds two products now, the Dodge Dart-based Fiat Viaggio launched two years ago - supposedly designed just for China - and the just-launched Fiat Ottimo, a hatchback version of the Viaggio. Fiat projected 300,000 Viagio sales in its first two years, that number has been adjusted downward to 94,000 and there doesn't appear to be an analyst alive that sees a good future for Fiat in China's overrun mainstream market. Still, last year's 130,000 group sales in China is a huge jump from 2012 sales of 66,000 units, but less than half the 300,000 units it projected.
