Up for auction is a 1975 Jeep CJ5. It has the 258 4.2 I6 engine, T-14 3 speed manual transmission, Dana 30 front, Dana 44 rear,Dana 20 transfer case, custom bumpers, and 6 point rollcage, I bought the Jeep planning to fix it up and wheel it around on the weekends but without a back seat my wife says it is useless. The body is in great shape but the floorboard was replaced with sheet metal and was rivetted on instead of welded on. I just don't feel safe putting a seat in the back with my kids on a rivetted floor. Would be a great project for someone that can weld, but that is definitely not me. The front seats in the pics were removed as they were junk. The front seat brackets are still intact and in good shape. The Jeep has been sitting in a barn for the last 8 years not running. The previous owner (a co-worker of mine) said it did run when he put it in there but he had too many toys and it just sat there. He said he bought it because of the low miles 67000 and that when he bought it he only put a few hundred miles on it. It will need the gas tank cleaned or a new one ($80) a carb. rebuild, a battery, and new fluids throughout and it should run. I did buy new spark plugs, coil, spark plug wires, fluid for transmission, differentials and transfer case, gaskets for the differentials but have not instaled any of it. Clear title and ready to be picked up and taken to a new home. The bids will start at $500. The reserve price is $1400 and if you want to buy it outright I would do that for $2250. Fixed up these Jeeps go anywhere from $5000-$1500 per NADA classic price guides. Definitely worth the investment. If you have any questions please ask. Cash or PAYPAL only on this. Payment due 3 days after auction end with pick up within 2 weeks of auction end. Thanks for looking and good luck!

Chrysler recalls 468,700 Jeep Grand Cherokees, Commanders over rollaway risk

Mon, 13 May 2013

Chrysler has issued a recall covering a combined 469,000 units of the 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2006-2010 Jeep Commander (inset). Of that number, 295,000 are in the US, roughly 33,000 in Canada and Mexico and the remainder in other markets. It seems an electrical fault in the transfer case can allow the affected SUVs to shift into neutral on their own, while an Associated Press report says that Chrysler had "found cracks in a circuit board that turns the four-wheel-drive system on and off." The issue was discovered when an owner started his car remotely and it rolled away.
Chrysler is expected to begin notifying owners in June 2013, who can then take their cars to dealers. The dealer will reflash the final drive controller free of charge. There's a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration below with more information.

Jeep Cherokee faces on-sale delay

Sat, 23 Mar 2013

A report in The Wall Street Journal looks at some of the obstacles to the 2014 Jeep Cherokee that go beyond its mootable yet "very contemporary" looks, almost all of them based on Fiat's financial position. Starting with that sheetmetal, in defense of it SRT president Ralph Gilles and Jeep design head Mark Allen said they wanted to "make sure the design still looks modern five years from now."
The WSJ piece doesn't cite longevity as a factor, instead saying that its features originated in a design for an Alfa Romeo, the transformation into a Jeep design meant allowing Chrysler get it to market more quickly and save "hundreds of millions of dollars" in engineering.
The need for Fiat to save money while it weathers the European situation has cut budgets for development, engineering and the pace of retooling the Toledo, Ohio plant to build the Cherokee. In a familiar case of snowballing at work, among the effects will be pushing back the Cherokee's volume sales date and delaying updates to some of Chrysler's other products.

Why Mopar won't release a factory lift kit for the new Jeep Cherokee

Thu, 24 Apr 2014

The Jeep Cherokee Dakar concept showed off at the 2014 Easter Jeep Safari made a lot of online friends, even the Cherokee naysayers assenting that there's a monster Jeep underneath the Cherokee's skin if you're willing to go in and get it. But after reading Road & Track's write-up of what went into creating the Dakar, particularly its lift, you'll understand why you'll probably never see the components for it in the Jeep Performance Parts catalog.
The concept's press release mentions a "prototype Jeep Performance Parts lift kit, and additional suspension modifications." The short-story explanation is that the front struts on the standard Cherokee weren't engineered to accept any amount of lift, so the long story begins with the phrase, "an entirely new suspension." Head over to RT to read the details, and don't be afraid to ogle the Cherokee Dakar gallery and another awesome Jeep fancy that won't likely crawl over the hurdles imposed by production reality.
